Hi, my name is Oscar! Oscar is a sweet and cuddly dog. All he wants in life is to please his person/people. He gets along great with dogs, cats and kids of all ages. He walks well on leash, is crate trained (he does prefer to sleep with his people in bed though), and potty trained. He is interested in marking in the home, but does great wearing a belly band. He does extremely well to please you, so he quickly listens and is easily redirected. He bonded quickly to our resident dog and cat. His favorite thing in life is to cuddle. He loves to hang out on his back with his belly exposed. If you're looking for a sweet, well mannered, and cuddly companion, Oscar is your dog!

Story
Hi my name is Riggy Moe and I am from Minnesota! Riggy Moe is a Senior Mini Schnauzer, she is very sweet and adorable!! She is full of personality and she is a social gal as she likes to make new friends. She does great with my other dogs as well. She also likes going for walks when the weather is nice. She is doing well with her housetraining and her crate training, I recently have let her run of my bedroom, kitchen and she has been doing well with that. She is used to sleeping on my bed with me as I have doggy stairs for her to use and she definitely let you know her place is on the bed, I affectionately call her my Sassy Princess! She is a wonderful companion dog who already has me wrapped around her little paw as I just adore her! From the Vet: Ms. Riggy Moe is a spunky senior gal ready to find her final forever home for her golden years. While she is not without some medical that will required monitoring with her adoptive homes primary DVM as would be typical with any senior pup. Based on all other physical exam findings, we expect that she will be a perfect senior adoptable dog for some one looking for an easy companion!

Story
Hi, my name is Raisen, I am from Alabama. From his foster: Raisen adores being held and sleeping in your lap. After about a week of decompressing, his personality really began to come through. He's curious and confident, mastering the stairs quickly and fitting in easily with our 55lb resident dogs. He follows their cues, but isn't afraid to speak up if someone comes sniffing around the toy he's playing with. He even joined in with barking at the mail carrier! He had no clue why everyone was barking, but wanted to be part of the action. Raisen does sleep in his crate at night and does well with peeing on potty pads. He's about 50% there on where he decides to poop. We have not yet introduced Raisen to going outside or leash walking. From the Vet: Raisen has been staged for his heartworm disease, and at that appointment we determined he will need a few other things as well. If determined safe for anesthesia, Raisen will need a Neuter & Dental +/- a mass removal surgery either at least 2 weeks prior to starting heartworm injections OR this surgery will wait until 30-40 days after heartworm treatment. The BB Medical Team will update this portion of Raisen's bio as we get more information from his pending lab work associated with his heartworm staging and mass cytology. I am currently being treated for heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious so your resident pets are not at risk! The treatment for this is 3-4 months long and requires a minimum of 3 appointments and strict rest/restricted activity. My adoption can take place during treatment, while TBB manages the financial responsibility of my heartworm treatment at The Bond Between Vet Center. Any other medical care needed outside of the specific care covered in the contract disclaimer, would be the responsibility of my new family.

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Hi, my name is King, I am five years old and weigh almost seven pounds. I came into rescue from a breeder, where I unfortunately was kept indoors my entire life. So I haven’t been potty trained, or even learned about how wonderful being able to go outside and explore can be. But it’s been a bit cold, so my foster mom is helping train me on potty pads, and will go out for longer periods when the weather is a bit warmer. Because I led such a confined life, everything is new to me so I’m a little scared and nervous. I didn’t know what it was like to have a human touch me gently, but after a few days I let my foster mom pet me. Now I sit close to her and love her gentle touches. I had never walked on a leash before, but now a pro at it and am a fast learner. I enjoy other dogs and ideally I’d like a home with another dog so I have someone to play with. A home with a fenced yard would be super, but I would also be fine living in an apartment because I’m such a quiet little guy and can be somewhat of a couch potato. I’m too little to get up and down from furniture, and stairs are a new thing for me, but I’m a quick learner. Because I’m pretty shy, my new family must understand that I’ll need time to become comfortable in a new home and with new people. But with a little time I’ll be your snuggle bug, and want to be right by your side. I’ll greet you by running in circles and wagging my tail. I’ll also want to sleep with you. I spent most of my life in a kennel; it’s traumatizing for me, and I will cry or bark if you put me in a kennel. These are the requirements for my new family: 1. A quiet, adults only family who is home much of the day. 2. King is not housetrained, and his new family must be understanding and commit to his continued training. They must also understand that he has never been exposed to much of anything and will gradually introduce him to new situations and experiences. 3. Another small dog in the home would be great because King enjoys the company of another dog. 4. Agree to never put King in a kennel. 5. Live within 30 miles of Hopkins, MN. 6. Attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. King is scheduled to be neutered and have entropian surgery within the coming weeks. Once he has recovered, he will be ready to go to his new home. He is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $370.00 plus $33.39 sales tax for a total of $403.39. To meet King, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you. Meet Prince, who is an 8-year-old brown and white Shih Tzu Teddy Bear (part Shih Tzu and part Bichon Frise). He is fairly large at 30 pounds, but is not overweight and he does actually think and act like a "Teddy Bear". He is soft and cuddly and very gentle. He has been with one owner his entire life, but his owner has now gone into a retirement home and is unable to care for him. Prince is used to being with someone at home 24/7 and we will be looking for a family who is home all day. Prince enjoys daily walks, and one of the best things about Prince is that he is reliably house trained. He will definitely tell you when he wants to go out and if you ignore him, he'll keep trying to tell you. We hope his new family will have a fenced yard in which he can explore. He sleeps in his own bed at the end of his foster mom's bed but every once in a while, he jumps up onto her bed and curls up to go to sleep . PRINCE enjoys people and would be comfortable in a home with any number of individuals, including older, well behaved children. As mentioned, he is a gentle dog, and will greet other dogs, sometimes licking them with affection. He would be okay with another dog in the house as well. These are the requirements for Prince’s new family: 1. A family where someone is home almost all day. 2. A family with children over the age of ten who have experience with respectfully interacting with dogs will be considered. 3. A fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker. If his new family doesn’t have a fenced yard, they must be able to walk him daily so that he has a chance to enjoy the outdoors. 4. Allow Prince to sleep on their bed if he chooses. 5. Would be fine being in household with another small dog. 6. Live within 25 miles of Edina, MN. 7. Try to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Prince has been neutered, is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventive. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 in sales tax for a total of $348.88. To meet Prince, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph.

Thank you! Sammy is an eight-year-old male Shih Tzu who weighs almost 16 pounds. As you can see from his photo, he is an adorable, handsome boy. He lived his life in a very loving home, but came into our rescue when his owner passed away. Even though he was very attached to her, he has adjusted well in his foster home and loves his foster mom. He is just a very sweet boy who wants someone who loves him and he can love in return. Sammy is a sweetheart who loves attention and snuggling beside his foster mom. He enjoys running around in the fenced back yard, following his foster-sibling around and marking each spot after him. He enjoys a daily walk or two depending on the weather. He gets along fine with the other two dogs at his foster home. He came from a single adult, quiet home who had no children, and it would be best if he lives in a calm, quiet, adults only home. The ideal home for Sammy will be one where he can relax beside his owner(s) and get plenty of attention. That's his happy place. He asks for very little other than a person who will give him a place to lay next to, some gentle petting, and soothing words. He likes sleeping in bed with his foster mom and foster siblings so he can snuggle beside her as close as possible. He is house-trained, eats very well and enjoys riding in the car too. These the requirements for Sammy’s new family: 1. A quiet, adults only home where Sammy will be the center of attention. He is happiest when he can be physically close to his family, where he can actually snuggle up beside them. So a family who is home much of the day and will include Sammy in their lives would be best. 2. Will allow Sammy to sleep with them in their bed. Again, he is just wants to be near you! 3. Can be in a home with another small dog who is of similar energy and nature. But he would also do well as an only dog. 4. A fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker as long as he is taken on a couple long walks each day, weather permitting. 5. Must live within 75 miles of New Brighton, MN. 6. Try to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Sammy is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total of $348.88. To meet Sammy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota at an upcoming meet and greet which will be determined within the next couple weeks. Hi, my name is Smoky. I am from Minnesota. From her foster: This girl is interviewing for her BFF (Best Friend Forever). Your lap will never be cold and she promises to shower you with kisses. She will strive to ensure you always lack personal space. She is a fierce protector. Smoky is doing well with potty training as long as it's not too cold and her person understands it's really them that is being trained. She plays well with the other young, small, high-energy pup in her foster home. She hasn't been around cats in her foster home. Are you ready to welcome love, kisses and snuggling into your daily routine?
