Story
5 yrs old Bella is a beautiful silver Tsih Tzu with tons of puppy energy. She is microchipped and current on her meds. This sweet girl plays well with other dogs and is pottie trained. Sometimes she'll come to you and ask go out; other times she will stand by the door that leads outside and whimper for attention. Loves to run in the backyard and roll in the grass. Loves hugs, playing fetch. And sleeping next to her humans. Would do best in a home with another dog. ##2708947##

Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by The Wilbur Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $100.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi my name is Riggy Moe and I am from Minnesota! Riggy Moe is a Senior dog, she is very sweet and adorable!! She is full of personality and she is a social gal as she likes to make new friends. She does great with my other dogs as well. She also likes going for walks when the weather is nice. She is doing well with her housetraining and her crate training, I recently have let her run of my bedroom, kitchen and she has been doing well with that. She is used to sleeping on my bed with me as I have doggy stairs for her to use and she definitely let you know her place is on the bed, I affectionately call her my Sassy Princess! She is a wonderful companion dog who already has me wrapped around her little paw as I just adore her! From the Vet: Ms. Riggy Moe is a spunky senior gal ready to find her final forever home for her golden years. She has a history of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) and requires lifelong medication to keep her eyes comfortable and healthy. Her adopter will need to maintain consistent treatment and establish care with their primary veterinarian for ongoing eye management and monitoring. She has undergone extensive dental care, including numerous tooth extractions, to ensure her mouth is now healthy and pain-free. Upon arrival, Riggy Moe was underweight. After reaching a healthy weight, she successfully underwent surgery to repair a luxated (dislocated) left hip. She has recovered well, but her adopter should monitor her joint health long-term and keep her at a healthy weight to support mobility and comfort.

Story
Hi, my name is Spout and I am from Minnesota. Welcome to the Sprout show! Sprout is a sweet, energetic boy who loves to be near his people. Get ready to be followed around the house and told what he needs, because this boy is quick to announce when he needs food, attention, or to go out. He will also make sure to alert you to important events, like the washing machine starting its spin cycle. Sprout currently lives with two other dogs. It took him a week or so to settle in and be comfortable with them, but now he does well with both, even enticing the old man dog of the house into short games of chase on occasion. Sprout does best with a daily walk or play session. Sprout would love a home where he can be the center of attention and who will give him the time he needs to settle into a new home. From the Vet: Sprout has been cleared by The BB Medical Team for adoption! He came to us with a few medical issues that needed to be addressed; 1 he needed a thorough shave due to significant matting, but we know that will only improve with lots of TLC and regular grooming in his forever home. He had several masses sampled and they were found to be benign follicular cysts and TBB will not pursue removal, but a future adopter is encouraged to monitor for future masses and have any evaluated with a primary care veterinarian. The biggest thing TBB will plan to take care of for Sprout is a dental surgery/cleaning with several extractions expected. This procedure will be coupled with his neuter appointment so he will be ready for his adoptive home with a new lease on life and a fresh smile to go along with it!

Story
Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu.  We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can’t help if we don’t have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 1, 2024, 5:42 pm

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Are you looking for a petite Shih Tzu that is adorable, charming and a little silly too? My name is Pearl. I will be 2 years old in June, weigh 6 pounds and have beautiful, soft and silky black hair. Everyone thinks I am cute as I always wag my tail and like to give kisses. When I first came to my foster home, I was not accustomed to a harness or leash. Now I love to put them on because it means I get to go outside! I love to go for walks in the neighborhood with my foster mom and her dog. I like to stop and watch the people and the bunnies and squirrels. Actually, I am learning to watch and NOT chase the bunnies and squirrels! Because I have not had a lot of exposure to people and things in the environment, I have a lot to learn. I adapt well though, if you give me time and you are patient! My foster mom is also happy that I am learning to go potty outside! If she forgets to take me outside I get right up in her face and kiss, kiss, kiss to let her know I need to get outside! Pearl is very sweet with a little tomboy thrown in! She is a bit shy at first, but as soon as she knows you, all is well and she is very happy. Pearl will need to continue to learn basic dog obedience and gain confidence, so she would really benefit from formal obedience/socialization training. Pearl does love to please and is a smart girl that learns quickly! If you are willing to give this little girl time and love, she will be your best friend forever! Pearl could be happy in a home with another small, playful dog or as an only dog. If there is not another companion dog in the family Pearl needs a “human” companion who will be with her much of the day. She needs a quiet, calm household with adults and possibly school aged children who are experienced and respectful of dogs. Pearl is a very special girl who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that her foster mom expects for her new family: • Because Pearl is an active two year old and Shih Tzus can often live 14 plus years, she must be placed with an age appropriate family who can fully care for her for her entire life. Pearl would like an active family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help her with training and socialization. This means time devoted to her training and learning other important doggy behaviors, such as leash walks outside, exposure to new, safe experiences, and lots of ear scratching and snuggles. Pearl would love to be included in as many family activities as possible. • Pearl can be in a home with another confident, small dog who will help her learn by being a role model and friend. However, she would also do well as an only dog as long as she has opportunities to learn to socialize with other dogs on walks or other family activities. A family that works from home would also be wonderful for Pearl. • Pearl is not fully trained for going potty outside. Her new family needs to understand this and must take her out every couple hours during the day. Pearl does sleep all night though, without having to go potty outside. She will definitely want to sleep in bed with her new family as she loves to cuddle! • Pearl’s new family should live within 40 miles of the south metro area. Pearl is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $470.00 plus $42.42 in sales tax for a total of $512.42. Her foster mom would like her new family to attend our Rescue Reunion held each year in September. To meet Pearl, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Zoey is a six-month-old Shih Tzu/Maltese with a playful spirit. She’s currently learning to play fetch, is extremely curious, and can also settle into a calm, relaxed companion when the moment calls for it. Zoey appears to be okay with children who understand how to interact gently with small dogs, and she absolutely adores being cuddled. Zoey would do best in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely explore and burn off some of her puppy energy. She will need a family committed to enrolling and participating with her in puppy training classes, as continued guidance will enable her to grow into a well-mannered adult dog. She needs continuity and a regular routine in order to become potty trained. She will require going outside every 3-4 hours and also be on a regular feeding schedule. Zoey enjoys daily walks and currently sleeps peacefully through the night in a crate placed right next to her foster family’s bed. That said, she would happily trade that setup for a cozy spot sleeping with her forever family in their bed. The following are requirements for Zoey’s adoption: 1. Since Zoey is still a puppy and small dogs can live 16+ years, applications will only be accepted from age-appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the activity, care and comfort that Zoey will need for her entire life. 2. Someone who is home much of the day, since Zoey needs continued house training. She also thrives on the companionship of her humans. 3. A family who will actively participate in puppy training classes with Zoey and will provide the physical activity and stimulation that a puppy requires. Having a secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 4. Applications from a family with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated an understanding of and have experience in gently interacting with a small dog will be considered. 5. Live within 30 minutes of Fridley, MN. 6. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September of each year. Zoey is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. However, she has not been spayed yet because she is currently in heat. She will be spayed once her heat has subsided. But we are currently accepting applications for her adoption and she can go to her new home once she has recovered from her spay surgery. Zoey’s adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 in sales tax, for a total of $566.93. To meet Zoey, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see Zoey and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month at the Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.
