Story
Chewie is approximately 18 months old, hypo-allergenic, LOVES to walk. Chewie is an obedient, loving, companion dog. He's smart and desires to please, and is very patient with dogs his own size. We have another dog who is 8 years old that has medical issues. Chewie needs supervision/training for interactions with larger dogs. He gave chase to our outdoor cats when he first arrived, but now he just sniffs them and walks past. He has had some exposure to 2 year old, 9 year old, and 14 year old boys with no problems. It is with great sadness, I feel I need to re-home Chewie due to a death in the family, and our older dog's medical issues are requiring substantial care (though stable). Chewie needs continued training for separation anxiety, but a bark collar and Prozac have given him much relief. Chewie is a sweet friend who is sure to melt your heart as he snuggles you!

Story
Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu.  We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can’t help if we don’t have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. What isn't there to love about Lola!   Lola is a puppy who wants to play, chase, wrestle and run! When she is tired she will happily cuddle on your lap. She LOVES all things food, squeaky toys and to be outside. She doesn't like to be left alone for long periods of time. Lola is very playful and good with children. She loves other dogs, but think she would be great as an only dog, we don't know about cats. She will bark a lot to vocalize and indicate she wants your attention or to play. If Lola seems like a perfect for you, you may fill out our application and someone will be in touch soon. Story
Zazzy is a friendly girl, who loves to play and play with her toys. Considering she came from a breeder situation, she is very friendly and likes everyone.  She is friendly, easy going, quiet, doesn't bark much. She doesn't mind being alone, but gets very excited when you come home! She will whimper a little when her people leave the house. &#226&#128&#139She likes to eat, loves treats, likes to play with the other dogs, and loves toys that don't squeak. Zazzy loves blueberries and won't let you forget her morning blueberry treats:-) Zazzy is a bit of a loner, doesn't want to sleep in bed with her foster, but is more than welcome to if she wants. She actually prefers to sleep in a whole different room by herself and in her bed which will go with her to her new home. She is playful with her foster dog siblings and would do great with another low key, easy going small dog. At first she is a little growly around new animals, but once introduced, she is fine. Cats she ignores. Her nick name is sparky the seal cause she will do a seal walk with her back legs dragging. (See photo) it's very cute. And when she wants food she will sit up on her hind legs and beg for food. She is  working on potty training and will go  on puppy pads and potty's outside, but sometimes misses the puppy pad. At least she tries;-) She will need work on the leash and walking, but is getting better every time she is taken her for a walk.  &#226&#128&#139If you think Zazzy is the right fit and you would like to meet her, please submit an application.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 12, 2024, 2:56 pm

Story
I am Noel. I am from Kentucky If you're looking for a hiking partner, look away! Noel's idea of an active life is going around the yard a couple times, followed by a nap. With a clean bill of health, this girl is ready to be someone's spoiled, pampered princess. And just like the Princess in the Princess and the Pea, this girl is sensitive. No kids and no rough handling for her. This girl needs an experienced owner who is willing to build trust, respect her boundaries and help her learn to feel safe and secure in higher stress situations like the vet. Noel currently lives with a cat and another small dog. She has little interest in either of them, but can get snappy with the other dog if he gets too close to her food. She can manage the three steps at the back door, but a full staircase from the first floor to the upstairs is a bit much from her, as is jumping up on the furniture. She'll happily fuss to let you know she wants up and is fine being carried up and down. Because of her sensitivity around rough hands, Noel is only available to homes with no children. While you'll need a little patience to win her full trust, this girl will reward you by making curling up at your side her favorite hobby. From the Vet: Hi! I'm Noel a spunky southern gal finally ready to be looking for my furever home! I came into rescue a few months ago and needed to have several medical issues addressed before I could commit to the search for a home. I came having already had a recent mammary mass removal surgery when I was still in Kentucky. The biopsy from that surgery was inconclusive so I was scheduled for a second mass removal surgery at which time it was determined that the masses were a non-cancerous benign growth. My future family should monitor for any future masses and consult a primary care vet if new masses present. I also had a dental procedure where 17 teeth were extracted. At home dental care is recommended to maintain oral health as much as possible. On my first exam, grade 2/4 MPL's (medial luxating patellas) were noted, however I am walking fine and not experiencing any lameness or pain. Currently, surgical intervention will not be needed. Joint supplements and other supportive care in addition to exercise and lean diet could be considered helpful. Hope to settle into a quiet, happy home in my later years!

Story
Hi, my name is Luna. I am from Minnesota. From her foster: Luna is a such good little dog! She gets the zoomies and goes nuts for a tennis ball (or a wool dryer ball!) She goes potty outside and takes some coaxing to go in her crate, but she's fine with a treat and sleeps soundly. She loves to go on walks and we're working on her leash manners - she's just so excited to sniff everything that she tugs. She ignores my resident cats and loves my 9 year old son. I think she would do best as an only dog.

Story
Hi, my name is Bella!  The first thing you should know is that I will follow MY human everywhere. If sit down, I will sit right beside you and cuddle any chance I get. Oh, and I like to help keep the house clean- I'm told this is one of my best features. For example, if we’re outside and the ground is wet when we come inside, I will wait for you to dry off my paws before I go walking through the house. I also spend the nights in my kennel and not complain. In the mornings sometimes you’ll hear me like a tiny alarm clock waking you up, but I’m not very loud. I also know that the first thing we do is go outside. But this is where I have a little bit of trouble because, although I know to use potty pads in the house if I have to go, I don't aways remind my foster mom to take me outside... except in the mornings! My foster mom does this really weird crazy dance outside when I actually do go potty and it makes me laugh. I love being outside when the weather is nice, especially when it means going for walks with my human. I really just want to be with you and when I'm out in the yard without structure, I get a little too caught up with all the things around me. My foster mom says I bark at the wind. Together, we are working on that and I am trying really hard to bark less. If we go for a walk, though, I’m much more focused and I enjoy seeing all the things there is to see, plus it's great bonding time!  This is Bella‘s Foster mom and I would recommend that Bella be the single dog in a household. She is currently fostered with my resident dog and she shows no interest in socializing. Bella will play by herself with her own toys, but does not engage with my dog at all and tells her to go away if she tries to come around to play. She also prefers a quieter household with no children. It does seem that some sudden movements still spook her which does cause her to snap at you a little bit. The potty training has been coming along a little slow, but she is progressing very well. She was obviously trained in her previous life to use potty pads so I think going outside is just a new experience. She does great in her kennel and sleeps through the night or if you prefer, she is a great bed partner as well. All in all, it has been really fun having Bella here. She has the softest fur and most beautiful big brown eyes and just wants to be with you any chance she gets. When she gets that burst of energy and she wants to play, she will grab her toy and just run through the house like a little mad woman and you can’t stop laughing. She truly is a little spitfire ##2008779##
