Bo and Penny have been together since they were puppies. They are 11 years old now. Bo is a Bichon and Penny is a Bichon/Shih tzu. They are looking for a home together where people will be home with them all the time. Bo and Penny were surrendered as they did not do well being left home alone in an apartment while owner was at work. They are doing amazing in their foster home with a fenced yard and other dogs for entertainment. They are potty trained, kennel trained, and know a few commands. Walk well on leash. Bo does pull some. They will bark when someone is at the door. They are really sweet and playful at times. They get along with dogs and they sleep with their foster mom. Summer Breeze...makes me feel fine...blowing through the jasmine in my miiiiinnnd My foster mumsie sings that to me because she says I remind her of that song ....I'm like a warm Summer Breeze coming to bring you out of your winter woes. I make friends with all the dogs big and small, I like cats,I love kids,and I am gentle, wiggle butt of happiness all the time. My foster mumsie says another big bonus is that I'm like a shihtzu for someone on a budget... I have the cute squishy face and none of that long hair that has to be continuously groomed. Win-win! Summer is a wonderful little Shihtzu mix of some such. She is approx a year old and 14lbs grown. She is extremely easy,happy,and affectionate. She gets along with all of my dogs and fosters ,my cats,and the neighbor kids love her. They are at my door daily to see if she can come out and play. Summer recalls like a dream and doesn't run off if not on leash,but she also has great leash skills now. She is kennel trained and sleeps overnight in her kennel. She loves toys and to play, starting to learn fetch with little smaller 's. She is very gentle and would be perfect for a family even with small children. She is still working on her potty training, but is learning fast. She is maybe medium energy. While she does love to play and bounce around she also can just sit on your lap while watching a movie. Meet Alfie! Yes he is real and yes, he’s really that cute! If you are looking for the best puppy snuggles in all the land, Alfie is ready to deliver! This sweet boy just wants to share his love with humans and animals alike. He absolutely loves his squeak toys and is go good an entertaining himself, since his foster sister doesn’t seem to want to play with him.  Alfie is smart boy and catches on pretty quickly. Since he had a bit of a tough start he can be a bit shy, he does warm up pretty quickly once he realizes you are just there to love him. Once you have him in your arms he just snuggles right in to you! We are woking on his kennel manners and he’s doing great! He’s pretty quiet while in there and is learning to be calm before he is let out. The funny part is even though the kennel door is open he sometimes take his time to come out. Lol While he does not require a fence, it will be helpful to his potty training.  Alfie is struggling to get use to leash, but I am confident with extra leash exposure he will get over it! This little man is pretty resilient. He is currently not fostered with kids, but I think as long the children are older and respectful, he will do really well. Few things to keep in mind: -Still working on potty training -Will need work with the leash. Since he’s not had a lot of exposure to the leash it’s not something  he’s used to Alfie really is a great puppy!!! I am a dashing, calm, and very sweet senior male Shih Tzu who loves to sit on foster mom’s lap while she works. I’m not really into toys but I enjoy watching TV, sleeping in bed with mom at night, and I LOVE to eat food and treats, especially popcorn… YUUUMMM! Oh yea, I’m quite the dancer too! It’s true, in fact, I think my moves are better than Fred Astaire’s and I like to show off my dancing prowess whenever I want a treat or to be lifted onto the couch. By the way, I also did great at the groomer but then who doesn’t want to look all spiffy am I right!?! Anyway, I do not like being left alone and I hate the kennel/crate! As a matter of fact, I will bark in either of those situations so hopefully my new family will be home with me (and doesn’t have shared walls!). I am, however, good about doing my business outside on a schedule; I do well with the leash; and I’m great with kids, cats, and other small dogs like me. Petey is an 8-year-old male Shih Tzu mix that weighs 15 pounds. He has beautiful curly black hair with a small white mark on his chest. Petey came into rescue when we were contacted by a veterinary clinic, where he was taken to be euthanized because his owners didn’t want him anymore. The vet thought Petey was a sweet boy and wouldn’t, in all good conscience, euthanize him, so the owners just gave him to the clinic. Petey had been badly neglected by his owners, was horribly matted and had no previous veterinary care. When he was evaluated by the veterinarian, Petey was found to have chronic kidney disease. He is now on a very specific prescription diet for kidney disease and is doing very well. He cannot have any other food or treats because his kidney disease will return and he will prematurely die. But if maintained on the prescription diet, he can live a long, healthy, happy life. No other medications, other than the diet, are necessary. Petey is a loving, happy guy. He follows his people and wants to be by you or at least always be able to see you. He likes to spend his evenings sitting with you. He enjoys going outside and loves a fenced in yard. Petey is pretty well house trained, and his foster parents continue to work on that by letting him out every couple hours during the day, and by having piddle pads available for him at night. He sleeps contently in his own bed at night. He gets along with his foster siblings so a small companion dog would be fine.. An adults only home would suit him perfectly, although older children (older than 12 years), who are quiet and respectful would be okay. These are the requirements for Petey’s new family: • An adult, stay at home family, although older children would be okay. • Petey does not do stairs so he needs to live in a single story home. • A fenced yard is a plus.t. He loves to explore the outdoors, but as importantly, he must be let out every 2-3 hours to urinate, and a fenced yard would facilitate that. • Petey needs a family that can willingly afford his prescription kidney disease diet, and be vigilant about feeding him ONLY the prescribed food, including treats. He must stay on this for the rest of his life in order to remain healthy. • A family within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. • Commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion every year in September. Petey is neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm and flea preventative. He is scheduled for a dental January 3rd at Rice Creek with a recheck of labs scheduled a month later in February, also at Rice Creek.
