WE ARE A TX BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application found at haydudeequine.org Luffy - You are the bridge between what was and what will be, my pathway to a new life! Hey hey all you fabulous people out there. My name is Luffy and I'm here looking to adopt me a family, a home...one I can say will be all mine! And since you're reading this, I'm hoping that you'll consider making ME a part of yours!!!! I is a real sweetheart, adorable and playful year-old pup coming in at about 16lbs that is an on the go and energetic. I is sure to win over your heart with my charming ways and playful personality. I is ready to start this next chapter in life with lots of puppy kisses, tail wags and playtime with my new family!! I has a lot of energy and playfulness that makes me the perfect companion for lots of adventures, everything from the mundane daily to your weekend exciting. I do great with the other foster pups here but would do just fine getting ALL the attention as your one and only. I would probably do best in an adult only home or with older kiddos (10+), as sometimes I can play kinda rough. I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting any of those creatures y'all call a cat. I do great with people and my dream is an active family that would love to have a tag-a-long to share in all the joys of hanging your head out the car window, going on sniffaries or sleeping on the ground on camping trips. I am up to trying them all...and having a blast doing them with you! I am crate trained but still working on the house training so I will need continued encouragement. I so love sleeping in bed, of course...snuggled up to you but I sometimes need to go out to potty thru the night. I seem to have a larger dome head and although it hasn't been confirmed, the vets seem to think I could possibly have hydrocephalus which is a condition where an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) inside the skull causes the brain to swell and increase pressure. There are some treatment options that vary depending on the cause and severity of hydrocephalus, but may include medication to reduce fluid production, surgical shunting to drain the excess fluid, or in severe cases, palliative care. Some breeds like the chihuahua naturally have a dome shaped head and don't always indicate a problem. This doesn't seem to affect my sweet personality and I'm just a happy happy boy that is ready to live life to the fullest! There just isn't anything like the pure pleasure I feel when I catch a glimpse of you from across the yard, if I happen to get that far away! You can see it on my lil face and in my body, I am so darn happy to see you even if it was just 2 seconds ago! I am definitely a shadow pup, even when the sun is hiding behind clouds, sticking close and following you...everywhere!! I am sooooo ready to unleash all this awesomeness on a family and be that lil heartbeat at your feet or maybe preferably on your lap, so if you think I'd be a pawsome fit for you and your lifestyle, please stop scrolling and fill out my adoption application! It can be found at haydudeequine.org

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Chico is an 11 pound, 8 year old male Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix. He was given to our rescue because his owner moved to an assisted living place where pets were not allowed. Chico is a lovable, easygoing companion who enjoys lounging in the living room. He has a calm demeanor, is gentle with children, and gets along well with both dogs and cats. He is fully house-trained and loves being close to his humans, following them from room to room with quiet devotion. He loves to explore the backyard and looks forward to long daily walks. Chico is a friendly little guy and likes to greet people and other dogs while out on walks. But what he loves most is joining his foster dog sibling outside to chase the resident rabbits and squirrels around the yard. A fenced yard for him would be wonderful because he really loves the freedom of being able to explore outdoors. His foster parents use a whistle to call him back to the door, and he responds to this well. Chico would be perfect for someone looking for a loyal companion or a mellow family pet. He’d thrive in a quieter home with lots of affection and a soft bed to call his own. A retired person or couple would be an especially great match for his low-key lifestyle. We are working with Chico to address a mild case of separation anxiety. He enjoys riding in the car and it would be great if his new family will include him in their daily activities, wherever they go. He is okay with another small dog in the home who has similar energy and age. He sleeps in his bed in the bedroom at night, although he would probably love sleeping in bed with his new family. These are the requirements for Chico’s new home: 1. Someone who is home most of the day and will include Chico with them throughout the day. 2. An adults only home or a home with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated that they know how to engage in a gentle, respectful way with small dogs. 3. A home with another small dog in the home, or in a home as an only dog. 4. A fenced yard would be great, because Chico loves exploring freely. If a fenced yard is not available, the family must be able to take him on a long walk every day – at least over one mile, and provide additional play time for him. 5. Never use a retractable leash – doing so will violate the adoption contract. 6. Live within 30 miles of Inver Grove Heights, MN. 7. Hopefully attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue annual reunion held in September of each year. Chico is neutered, has had a dental, is current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total fee of $348.88. To meet Chico, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! If you have been searching for a tiny little boy to add to your family, Jasper may just be the boy for you! He is almost 8 years old, but most people think he is still a puppy! He is only 4.4 pounds and just a darling little sprite! He is calm, gentle, sweet and loves to just sit next to you or on top of you. Due to his small stature any large animal is terrifying to him. Jasper does fine with another smaller Shih Tzu, but does not want to interact initially. After 2 weeks in his foster home, he is just now warming up to the idea of lying near or next to another dog. Jasper had previously been used for breeding and is now learning - and enjoying - how to just be a pet, including walking on a leash outside. He loves to walk a little way and then stops to look around, and then starts up again. He can’t go too far before running out of steam, but he does like his short walks and loves being in the yard with his foster mom. He is a very curious fellow and can scamper at top speed when in the mood. But he also runs if he hears a loud noise, and could quickly get away. He will always need to be in a harness and on a leash with you. If he is kept on a strict potty schedule (every 3-4 hours), Jasper does just fine in the house. He does sleep all through the night very well, but is an early morning riser! Jasper has not learned to play with toys, so right now his favorite extracurricular activity is just being with you, held by you, and resting by you. In other words, YOU are his world! When you arrive home and come in the door he is so happy and will jump and bounce around to greet you! Jasper is scheduled for dental surgery on May 22nd and will be ready for adoption around June 1st. The dental surgery is unfortunately the result of breeding this Shih Tzu down to such a tiny size. All of the teeth a dog is supposed to have just do not fit in a mouth his size. Due to the overcrowding of teeth, his mouth has become diseased and infected and all of his teeth must be removed. HERE IS WHAT THE FOSTER HOME IS LOOKING FOR IN HIS NEW HOME: · An adults only home with very little activity, noise or commotion to scare or feel threatening to him. He responds best to a soft, quiet voice. · Someone home most of the time. If you are gone for an activity or work, you need to be able to come home within 3-4 hours. He does experience a bit of separation anxiety when left all alone and he will need to relieve himself every 3 to 4 hours. · Keep treats at a minimum, but feed his specific diet in 3 small meals a day to help him gain a little weight. · Live with 40 miles of Bloomington, MN so a personal home visit and a follow up visit can be easily done. · Commit to come to our Rescue Reunion held in September each year. Jasper is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total of $348.88. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Romeo is a 9 pound, male neutered Shih Tzu born in September, 2024 who was came to STRMN as an owner surrender. He has been SUCH a joyful addition to our rescue. Romeo is an expert kisser and loves to be near you. He will spend the majority of his day sleeping near you, following you around, or playing with random toys, He has picked up on fetch already and is still learning how to leash walk. Cat toys are his favorite as they are tiny enough for him to pick up! He currently is fostered with a larger dog, and they do well together, although Romeo was a bit nervous at first and took a while to be comfortable with him. If there is another dog in the house it would be best if it was a small dog. So far he has done great on car rides and although he is a bit timid around new people, he will warm up to them eventually. He is learning his name, almost has the sit command perfected and is about 90% potty-trained. He goes outside 4-6 times per day, but can easily hold it overnight. Even in the fenced in yard, you need to be outside with him and encourage him to go potty, as otherwise he will just sit outside and chew on sticks. He eats throughout the day and we've tried a set schedule for food, but if he's not hungry, he just won't eat! Romeo is a young, active little man who wants to be your whole word. He loves to be with you and run around with a toy at least 3 times a day. He also occasionally gets zoomies at 11pm at night before he tires himself out and plops down next to you in bed. He LOVES to snuggle right next to you in bed, so sleeping with his new family is a must. We are hoping his new family will want to include him in as many activities as possible and also make sure he has space for zoomies, as this is his preferred method of exercise in addition to walks. Following are the requirements for Romeo's new family: * Romeo is still a young puppy. Because Shih Tzus often live 16+ years, applications will only be considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the care and activity necessary for the rest of his life. * It is not known how Romeo will do with children, and a family without small children is preferred. Although one with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated that they know how to gently and respectfully interact with a small dog will be considered. * A family who is home much of the day and will include him in their everyday activities. He must be able to go out every four hours. * Romeo needs a family that can provide appropriate mental and physical stimulation for him. This includes daily exercise and providing training, activity and the stimulation needed for a dog of his age. Enrolling in puppy training is strongly encouraged for both Romeo and for his new family. * A secure fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker as long as Romeo can have other means of outdoor activity. * Romeo could live with other pets, as long as they are smaller like him. Otherwise, he would likely enjoy being an only dog and get your undivided attention. * Live within 40 miles of Coon Rapids, MN. * Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September each year. Romeo is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm/flea preventative. His adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93, for a total of $566.93. To meet Romeo, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southdale PetCo in Bloomington, MN.
