Junior is a 1-year-old small mixed-breed girl with an itty-bitty 8-lb frame. She’s an exceptionally easy, gentle dog who thrives in a quiet, cozy environment and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a low-maintenance, affectionate pup.True to her personality, Junior’s favorite activity is sleeping… preferably snuggled up near her person. She’s not very food-motivated, doesn’t demand much exercise, and hasn’t shown much interest in walks. In fact, when she goes outside, she’s usually a bit confused and ready to head right back in.Junior can be shy at first and was nervous for a day or two when entering her foster home, but once she settled in, she became relaxed and content. She does well in her crate, and is trained to go potty on puppy pads.Junior is slightly timid but does well with other dogs, and does great with cats! She hasn't had much experience with kids that we know of, so a proper introduction is recommended.She enjoys being around people but is also perfectly fine entertaining herself or resting when alone. Buttercup and her sister and brother, Bubbles and Brodie were surrendered to a kill shelter because their owners just had too many and couldn’t find homes on their own. Their mom is a long-haired Chihuahua and their daddy is a Shih Tzu and they were born on February 2nd this year so they are 8 months old. Buttercup has been spayed, is up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She’s also microchipped. She weighs just under 7 pounds and is probably full grown now. Buttercup is great at the Vet and The Groomer and loves riding in the car. She needs a little practice on the leash and she’s making great progress on house training. Buttercup is a little bossy but plays great with her brother and sister. we feel like she would be fine with other dogs after getting to know them but would always want to be the boss. She would be fine with older children, and we are not sure about cats but the bossy part would be the same at first. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Theo is a 9-year-old Shih Tzu mix who weighs approximately 13 pounds. He is a sweet, snuggly lap log who loves to be near his humans! He would love a family that lets him sleep with them overnight. He is a gentle soul in search of a family to love him in his retirement years. Theo is close to being potty-trained when kept on a schedule, but he does still have potty accidents. He will need a family who is patient with him while he continues to build consistency with housetraining. This cold Minnesota weather is not helping! Theo does not enjoy spending time in his kennel. He is very vocal when in there, but does well with free roam, so there is really no reason to kennel him. Theo is also vocal when there are new people in his space and he likes to alert his foster family when they have visitors. For this reason, shared walls might not be the best fit for his forever home. His fur will require regular grooming, but what handsome old man doesn't deserve a good spa day?!? Theo has luxating patellas in both of his knees. The vet does not recommend surgical intervention at this time, but it is something to watch in the future. Currently, Theo should continue taking a glucosamine supplement. Hi, my name is King, I am five years old and weigh almost seven pounds. I came into rescue from a breeder, where I unfortunately was kept indoors my entire life. So I haven’t been potty trained, or even learned about how wonderful being able to go outside and explore can be. But it’s been a bit cold, so my foster mom is helping train me on potty pads, and will go out for longer periods when the weather is a bit warmer. Because I led such a confined life, everything is new to me so I’m a little scared and nervous. I didn’t know what it was like to have a human touch me gently, but after a few days I let my foster mom pet me. Now I sit close to her and love her gentle touches. I had never walked on a leash before, but now a pro at it and am a fast learner. I enjoy other dogs and ideally I’d like a home with another dog so I have someone to play with. A home with a fenced yard would be super, but I would also be fine living in an apartment because I’m such a quiet little guy and can be somewhat of a couch potato. I’m too little to get up and down from furniture, and stairs are a new thing for me, but I’m a quick learner. Because I’m pretty shy, my new family must understand that I’ll need time to become comfortable in a new home and with new people. But with a little time I’ll be your snuggle bug, and want to be right by your side. I’ll greet you by running in circles and wagging my tail. I’ll also want to sleep with you. I spent most of my life in a kennel; it’s traumatizing for me, and I will cry or bark if you put me in a kennel. These are the requirements for my new family: 1. A quiet, adults only family who is home much of the day. 2. King is not housetrained, and his new family must be understanding and commit to his continued training. They must also understand that he has never been exposed to much of anything and will gradually introduce him to new situations and experiences. 3. Another small dog in the home would be great because King enjoys the company of another dog. 4. Agree to never put King in a kennel. 5. Live within 30 miles of Hopkins, MN. 6. Attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. King is scheduled to be neutered and have entropian surgery within the coming weeks. Once he has recovered, he will be ready to go to his new home. He is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.
