You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- LINCOLN IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Hello! Meet LincolnLincoln is a handsome treeing walker hound, 2.5 y old. He isn't interested in hunting and is looking for a new home. He is seeking an adoptive or foster home. Lincoln would be best suited as the only dog; he can be protective of his food and space with other dogs. He's lived outdoors and would need some training in the house, but he's sweet and food-motivated.Also included in the adoption are 30 days of Pet First Pet Insurance, a new lead and collar, and an adoption kit.Apply online:https://www.highlandcountyhumanesociety.org/available-animals/To contact us, please send an email or FB message to:Email: info@highlandcountyhumanesociety.orgFacebook: www.facebook.com/HighlandHumaneWebsite: www.highlandcountyhumanesociety.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 16, 2026, 8:28 pm

Story
https://foha.org/pet/ozzy2021/ Howdy! I'm Ozzy! I'm a handsome boy who is getting to know the world. A lot can be scary for a dog like me who hasn't had a lot of experiences in the real world. I'm shy at first but will warm up quickly if you give me some yummy chicken. Cars and new sounds can be a little scary for me too, so I'll need someone to help introduce me to new things and show me all the great things in life! My favorite thing to do is play soccer - kick the ball for me and watch me (and my ears) bounce with excitement! I also love sniffing and exploring the trails here at FOHA. Because I'm still learning how to be confident in a world of uncertainty, I will do best in a home without children. If you'd like to get to know me a little better, submit an application and we can set up a time to meet. Hope to see you soon!! Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.pretty hound ISO fresh start and love! LADY BIRD NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Lady Bird      Best Guess for Breed:  Treeing walker coonhound mix    Best Guess for Age:  6 years 9 months as of April 2026      SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:   52 lbs   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home Watch this video of Lady Bird playing with her foster sister, Babbette! Watch this video of Lady Bird as she learns how to use stairs for the first time!   Watch this video of the sweetest beagle girl watching 'The Fox and the Hound'.   Watch this video of Lady Bird going for a stroll. She's great on leash!   Watch this video of Lady Bird showing off her silly side.   Watch this video as Lady Bird enjoys the luxury of a quiet nap on her foster family's comfy couch with a cozy blanket.     Lady Bird is Looking For:  Her forever home! Lady Bird landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and she's eager to once again have her own humans. For sniffy walks (that hound nose - IYKYK!) and world exploration and quality kibble and a cushy dog bed, yes. But as an experienced dog, she knows what's most important in life: Knowing where she belongs, being safe and loved. What do you say? Are you her fresh start? Is she the one you see by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:     I’ve had the pleasure of fostering Lady Bird for just a few days, and even in this short time, she has quietly started to show who she really is, and it is very special. When she first arrived, Lady Bird kept to herself, finding comfort in her crate and watching the world from a safe distance. Everything was new and a bit overwhelming, but even then, you could see her gentle, sweet nature just beneath the surface. She is still decompressing and building confidence, but each day she’s taking small, meaningful steps forward.   Lady Bird is very much a hound at heart. She loves to take her time outside, following her nose and exploring the world at her own pace. She has a particular interest in sniffing cars (minivans especially) and while she’s still building confidence in new environments, she becomes more curious and engaged once she’s outside. Inside the home, Lady Bird currently prefers her crate as her safe space and does best when it is partially covered, which helps her feel secure. She is also a big napper (and snorer) and spends a lot of her day resting and recharging, which seems to help her process everything around her. That said, she is beginning to branch out!   Today she went up and down the stairs on her own and, for the first time, chose to settle on the couch after I showed her that she was allowed. After a while, she quietly shifted closer, rested against me, and fell asleep. It was a small but incredibly meaningful moment of trust. Lady Bird is the kind of dog who doesn’t rush into things. She may not always ask for attention, but when she feels safe and you show her that she is allowed to want things, she truly melts into her surroundings. She is very gentle and has shown polite interest in other dogs, as she enjoys a quick sniff and then moves on. As a former mom, she seems to have a soft spot for younger dogs and calmly notices children on walks, standing still so they can pet her. She is also still working on eating consistently and can sometimes eat or drink too quickly when she does, so smaller, more frequent meals have been helpful.   Heartworm information: Lady Bird is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. She has completed this activity restriction period.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   ! To learn more about Pennick, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org Pennick will be at one of our adoption events this weekend! Visit our event page (https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/) to see which one—event listings are usually updated on Fridays with attending dogs. If you’re looking for a happy-go-lucky, sweet, and radiant girl, you’ve found her! Meet Pennick, the hound mix described by all who meet her as a sweet and friendly gal that is just so happy and so much fun to be around. She carries herself with a smile and love for life that is infectious. She is most excited to go outside; she loves walking, sniffing, and just being in the great outdoors. While she has done well inside and outside, she prefers to be outside, only needing a little time to adjust to being inside. New experiences can be a bit overwhelming for Pennick, as she is a fan of the investigate slowly method, rather than jumping right in. Once she’s comfortable, she continues being herself, bringing all the joy with her! This pretty girl isn’t just the best dog; she is also a looker! Her outstanding white coat with tan spots distinguishes her from the rest of the pack. Speaking of, Pennick has been just as friendly to other dogs as to all her human buddies. Ready to add some joy to your life? Adopt Pennick today!

Bubba is a 1 year old Beagle mix. He and his siblings were born in rescue in 2025. Bubba is a loving and energetic boy who loves to be with his people and included in all adventures. He has done well with children and other dogs. He is working on house training, but still has accidents on occasion due to excitement. He loves to go for walks and sniff everything in his path. He is also working on leash manners (pulling), but with lots of practice he should improve in no time. Unlike most beagles, he is not overly vocal. It's time for this sweet boy to find his forever home full of snuggles and attention!

Meet Rumi Get ready, because Rumi is here and she is full of life. This spunky ginger girl is the kind of puppy who makes everything feel like the most exciting event of the day, and honestly, she's not wrong. Playful, curious, and absolutely full of personality, Rumi loves toys, loves people, and really loves other dogs. She's happy to entertain herself for a bit, but what she truly wants is to be in the middle of the action with you. Whether it's a play session, a cuddle, or just hanging out together, she is all in. She even gets thrilled when her water bowl is being filled. The simple joys of puppyhood! Rumi is doing well with sleep, making it through the night without a peep. Fair warning though - the moment she hears you stirring in the morning, her day has officially begun and she is ready. Coffee first, then puppy. You've been advised. She's still working on house training, as you'd expect from a puppy, so patience and consistency will go a long way. She's also a little escape artist in the making and is curious about everything she sees. With her gorgeous ginger coat and her boundless enthusiasm for absolutely everything, Rumi is a pure joy. She's going to grow into one amazing dog. Rumi would thrive in an active home that's ready for the wonderful chaos of puppyhood and someone with the time, energy, and patience to help this bright, lively girl become the best version of herself.
