Story

LEON-URGENT-Help Needed LEON is a handsome white Maltese/Poodle, about 7 years old, 12 pounds, who we saved from the pound. He looked pretty awful but he now has been cleaned and groomed, which really perked him up. LEON has a foster home, but is awaiting surgery. Many of the pups we get from the pound have been abandoned either because they were no longer wanted or because their medical needs were too expensive and people just did not want to deal with it. Sometimes they are found wandering the streets when someone saves them and turns them in to the shelter. Even though we have rescue discounts from our wonderful vets, surgeries and special procedures and all the diagnostics are often insurmountable. LEON will need several tumors removed, that we think are not cancer, but invasive nonetheless. Like many neglected small dogs, his teeth and gums are in horrendous condition, and some extractions will probably be needed. So we are hoping for a sponsor or guardian for LEON until he is ready for adoption. Story

Charlie is a (naked) Maltese who's about 7 years old and weighs 11 pounds.  This poor guy has a heartbreaking story.  His owner, an older lady who adored him, passed away last year.  Her callous, inhumane daughter took Charlie and kept him in one room of the house the majority of the time.  She had a daughter who she said had anxiety and couldn't handle Charlie barking (because he was lonely!) so she decided to get rid of him.  The completely bizarre thing is she shaved this poor dog to the skin!  When the person who intervened before the daughter took him to the shelter asked why she shaved him like that, she replied that she didn't want hair on the furniture!  He's NOT a shedding dog!  Honestly, I hope her mother comes back to haunt her for the rest of her life!  You can see by Charlie's "before" pic that the mother took excellent care of him.  Despite the last horrific year, Charlie's sweet temperament has not been damaged and he's still an affectionate, sweet guy which is a testament to the resilience of dogs. SENIOR DOG ADOPTION ALERT: Jef was dumped at South Los Angeles Animal Shelter in really bad shape a few months ago. He was severely neglected and malnourished. Despite all of this, he was very sweet and friendly to everyone at the shelter. He's been on the mend and is doing great! He is approximately 10 years old, 8 lbs, neutered, microchipped, and is likely a Maltese-Poodle mix. Despite the horrible life and abuse he has suffered, he is very trusting of people and is very grateful towards everyone who is helping him. UPDATE: We recently found out that Jef's foster is getting evicted from his home due to building selling. We need to get Jef a forever home FAST! Please share with family and friends.

Bruno is such a good boy! 1 year old. Super playful with other dogs, and kids. He listens and behaves. He’s not yet potty trained, but he’s learning how to use the back door follows the other dogs to go pee outside more often than before. We took him in after a neighbor said they needed to move and rehome him. They wanted to take him to a shelter But we took him in. The pet fee covers his neutering surgery, grooming and other pet goodies we got for him.

Meet Harley! This beautiful boy is an approximately 6 year old, Bichon that is about 20lbs. Harley was surrendered to us when his owners moved and did not want to take him along. It's ok because it is their loss and our gain! We found out that Harley was basically kept inside a mobile home 24 hours of the day while his owner was at work 12-14 hours. He didn't receive any socialization and was reprimanded for going potty in the house. We brought him into our foundation and into one of our amazing foster homes that has other dogs and a full family of people to see how he did. We can see that he can be a bit dominant with other dogs at first, but with correction which he takes well, he is learning day by day how to socialize properly. He is great with people! We do want him in an adult only home as he is a bit strong. Harley loves to play ball (small Kong balls are his favorite!) and will entertain himself with one or will play with you by bringing the ball to you and having you throw it. Harley's ideal home would be with an owner who is not gone long hours during the day and will take him for a few walks which he loves. He is great on leash! He's a good eater, but his skin was left by his prior owner...completely infested with fleas which caused allergies, so an owner that will incorporate good home cooking and supplements into his meals, is exactly what he needs! Harley is a bit clumsy in the car, but does love to sit by your side. He will need practice with that. Harley definitely can be an only dog with an owner who will spend time with him or he could be adopted with one other dog in the home that is not dominant or he could be adopted with his buddy Tali, a female 2 year old, 17lb, Maltese/Terrier mix. A home with a yard is exactly what Harley needs as he loves sunbathing and helps with his potty training into a new home. Harley was not treated well in his prior home, so we want to make sure he gets the best forever family out there! Harley is microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered.
