Meet Humphrey — A Fun-Loving Guy Ready for His Next Adventure!Humphrey is a handsome 5–6-year-old Pit Bull mix who came to us from local animal control, and this guy definitely isn’t ready to slow down! At around 40 pounds, Humphrey is a friendly, outgoing boy with plenty of energy and an enthusiasm for life. He could stand to gain a few pounds, but with some good meals and TLC, we think he’ll fill out nicely.Humphrey loves people and absolutely soaks up attention. He’s the kind of dog who is happy to be included in whatever you’re doing, whether that means heading out for a car ride, playing with his favorite toys, working on some training, or just hanging out with his people.Toys that make noise are a big hit with Humphrey, and he also loves lick mats and Kongs. He is very food motivated, which is a wonderful advantage when it comes to training. He’s eager to learn and would benefit from a family willing to continue working with him on basic manners, leash skills, and all the things that help an energetic dog become a great companion. He is also doing pretty well with going potty outside.Humphrey can live with larger dogs, but he is not appropriate for a home with small dogs, cats, or other small animals. Because of his energy level and play style, we are looking for a home with older kids 15+ as he may knock over younger children with his enthusiasm.As always, introductions with any resident dog will be important to make sure everyone is comfortable and compatible.At 5–6 years old, Humphrey offers a nice combination: he’s past the puppy stage, but he still has plenty of energy for walks, adventures, playtime, and an active family. Pit Bull-type dogs are often strong, enthusiastic companions, so Humphrey needs an adopter who understands that daily exercise, mental stimulation, structure, and consistent positive training are just as important as affection.Adopting a dog is a commitment for the rest of that dog’s life. Humphrey will depend on his new family for quality food, routine veterinary care, exercise, training, enrichment, patience, and, most importantly, a permanent place to call home. A fenced yard can be wonderful, but it doesn’t replace walks, interaction, training, and time spent together.Humphrey has already lost whatever home he once knew and ended up at animal control. Meet Brownie — Your Loyal, Loving Sidekick Brownie is an 8-year-old Bulldog/Pit mix with a heart that somehow grew even bigger than his past. Before coming into rescue, he didn’t receive the care he deserved, but you would never know it from the joyful, affectionate, tail-wagging boy he is today. Brownie has spinal spondylosis, which means he walks with a little extra character and sometimes needs a minute to loosen up after resting. But don’t let that fool you — this boy still gets the zoomies, runs up stairs, hops around with excitement, and embraces life with enthusiasm. He doesn’t let anything slow him down. And then there’s that underbite. Those tiny teeth peeking out are absolutely irresistible. One look at his sweet face and you’ll understand why everyone falls in love so quickly. Brownie is the definition of a cuddle bug. He lives for belly rubs, kisses, and curling up in bed with his foster family. If you’re on the couch, he’s right there beside you. If you’re heading to bed, he’ll happily join you. His favorite place in the world is wherever his people are. He loves being outside, whether it’s going for walks or riding in the car. This fun-loving guy simply loves life and has so much joy to share. He even enjoys bath time. Brownie adores children and has spent time with young kids in his foster home, soaking up their attention and affection. Brownie is housetrained, though he may mark initially as he adjusts to a new environment. This should lessen as he acclimates. He does have some skin allergies and is currently receiving Cytopoint to keep him comfortable. He has no food restrictions and no physical limitations beyond occasional stiffness after resting. He has also been tested for degenerative myelopathy and is negative for the condition. His test results and X-rays will be included in his adoption paperwork. Important things to know about Brownie: Brownie does not do well with cats, though he does well with most dogs and is currently best buddies with a foster puppy in the home. Brownie is not a fan of storms. Loud weather can make him anxious, and during thunderstorms he’ll want to be as close to his people as possible for comfort and reassurance. A patient, understanding home that can help him feel safe during those moments will be important for his success. Brownie also gets very stressed and reactive around lawn mowers and weed wackers, so a future adopter should use caution with yard equipment. Brownie is a resilient, happy boy who has overcome a difficult start and still greets each day with love and enthusiasm. He deserves a family who will cherish him, laugh at his adorable crooked smile, and give him the security he’s always needed. He has so much love left to give. Meet Beefcake — A Short, Sturdy Heartthrob!This totally handsome boy is Beefcake, and we admit that we are slightly obsessed with him! Beefcake is an approximately 3-year-old, 50-pound English bulldog mix. He may be a solid boy, but he is quite short, making him an adorable little tank with a huge personality and an even bigger heart.Beefcake gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and dog-experienced children. Although he is not generally a high-energy dog, he occasionally gets a serious case of the zoomies! Because he is strong and could accidentally knock over a small child when he gets excited, a home with older or dog-savvy children would be the best fit.This sweet boy rides perfectly in the car, is not much of a barker, and gives absolutely fantastic kisses. He loves attention, belly rubs, and simply spending time with his people. Beefcake is not particularly interested in playing for long periods, but he enjoys leisurely, short walks. When he decides the walk is over, however, he plants his feet, puts on the brakes, and makes it very clear that he will not be going one step farther!Beefcake does okay in a crate and remains quiet while inside, but crating is not his favorite thing. His adopter should be willing to help him become more comfortable through patience, positive reinforcement, and reasonable periods of crate time rather than expecting him to spend long hours confined.As a bulldog mix, Beefcake may be more sensitive to heat and humidity than some other dogs. His family will need to keep him cool, limit strenuous activity during warm weather, and watch carefully for heavy panting or signs of overheating. Bulldogs can also be prone to skin, allergy, breathing, joint, and weight-related concerns, so maintaining a healthy weight, providing routine veterinary care, keeping any facial or skin folds clean and dry, and being financially prepared for future medical needs are all important.Adopting a dog is a lifelong commitment that includes nutritious food, regular veterinary care, monthly preventatives, exercise suited to the dog’s abilities, continued training, patience, and plenty of love.
