Story
NAME: Brooks BREED: Pit Bull BIRTHDAY: 2012 WEIGHT: 60lbs ADOPTION FEE: $200   Brooks spent his Christmas in an NC shelter where he was marked as "the shelter favorite". We had a spot open and were happy to save that perpetually worried face of his. Brooks had reason to be worried in the shelter and on the plane ride to us, but learned quickly that he was safe in his quiet foster home with his foster brother, another senior male Pit. They have lived together for almost two months with no issues, although Brooks does need the help of an experienced owner to calm him down during playtime. He thinks he's still a young pup and can overstimulate easily, especially during rough play. However, he corrects easily and is a very devoted boy who wants to follow his person around all day into every room just to be close (too close sometimes- be careful or you'll trip over his loving but bulky body). He loves all people and will sit awkwardly close to your face and try to give kisses and even little love nips on occasion; not to hurt you, just to tell you that he loves you and wants you to rub his face and pet him. For this reason he would do best in a home with older/dog-savvy kids. He rarely barks, doesn't jump, rides well in the car, always has a wagging tail and loves a belly rub. He also snores like a bear almost immediately upon falling asleep, which will certainly help to scare away predators and/or burglars. He walks best on a front clip harness leash and LOVES going for walks.   He also came from the shelter with a mass on his abdomen which we had removed and biopsied. Unfortunately it was malignant and even though the cancerous mass was removed in surgery, the vet could not confirm that the cancer was totally removed. She did let us know she has seen dogs live for years after a diagnosis like this. Brooks certainly doesn't seem to know he is sick, and we have no intentions of telling him. He eats well, is active, otherwise healthy, and super loving: we think he will make someone happy for years to come. What we want most is to see him to go someone who will love him and let him be devoted to them, so that he can live his remaining days with a real family who will never abandon him again.   Although Brooks lives with another dog currently, we are looking for a home where he can be the only pet. He is not on medications at this time, but like all dogs his age/size he needs a daily joint supplement and may require pain medications in the future. May 25, 2023, 12:21 am

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE - TUCKER IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AUGUSTA DOG ADOPTIONS IN STAUNTON, VIRGINIA.  POTENTIAL ADOPTERS MUST TRAVEL TO STAUNTON FOR THE MEETING.For more information and to apply to adopt, please visit www.augustadogadoptions.orgTucker is a 10-11 year old pit mix who weighs about 60 pounds. Poor Tucker has just never been able to find a family who loves him unconditionally and can make a commitment to him!Tucker is a very laid back guy who enjoys lounging in the sun, napping and watching TV. He is also happy to go for runs or chase balls around the yard. Tucker does not care for other animals and does take his possessions at little too seriously at times. He would be successful in a quiet, adult only home where he can play when he wants to play and relax when he wants to relax. He is house trained and has very good house manners.A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Tucker, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other 'slow to adopt' dogs!Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and are scheduling individual adoptions in the Waynesboro, VA area during the pandemic. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. Story
NAME: Kyle BREED: Boxer/Hound Mix BIRTHDAY: 2021 WEIGHT: 60lbs ADOPTION FEE: $250 &#226&#128&#139 Kyle was on of four similar-looking dogs found locked in a shed together. They were taken to a crowded shelter in the south, overlooked among dozens and dozens of others. We agreed to take one of the four, despite their young ages. When Kyle arrived, he was covered in cuts and scratches in varying states of healing. He was very thin, with ribs and hip bones clearly visible. Day one with him was an absolute nightmare: he had obviously never been inside a house before, he was not neutered and had immediate problems with another intact male here, he was incredibly fearful and stressed and unable to be handled. He jumped onto the kitchen counter and over every baby gate in the house. He barked all night until his foster mom slept next to his crate. They both had a good cry and hoped the next day would not be so horrible.   It was not. Day two, day three, day four... Kyle improved with each passing moment. He became friends with every dog in the house, even the big boy he had tried to fight when he first arrived. He discovered the cats and overcame his fears, attempting (often roughly and awkwardly) to befriend them as well. He learned to keep at least two feet on the kitchen floor, he learned about beds and leashes and regular meals, he learned that his foster mom was his best buddy and could be trusted to give and receive kisses. What he has not learned is that other people can be his buddies as well: although he does not jump up or bite, Kyle is very fearful when meeting strangers both in and out of his home. He does seem to prefer women and children but barks and postures with them at first. Things are much calmer when his foster mom is not home, and he is forced to be cared for by other people, but what this guy really needs is an experienced adopter who can commit to working with him to overcome the neglect he suffered before being taken to the shelter. Positive, repetitive reinforcement and exposure to kind and understanding folks are what Kyle needs in order to be his best self. In return, he will bless you with the goofy antics and unwavering love his foster mom has experienced with him. Kyle is just a sweet young boy and he deserves so much more than what he has been given so far.   Please email us at  goodoldtails@gmail.com  if you have any questions about Kyle's needs.
