Dory was found drowning in a creek on 12/6/22 but two young boys pulled her out of the water and saved her life. She was in an animal ER then at the vet for a couple of days before being rescued by NorthStar. Poor Dory seemed confused at all she'd been through but now she is safe. Dory is a mellow quiet girl (she doesn't bark) who is currently in foster care. She is gaining strength and getting perkier - she is not a snuggler but she seems to enjoy attention and getting pets. Although she is underweight at 30 lbs., she seems to be a bit of a picky eater with scrambled eggs & ground beef being her favorite foods. She is tolerant when foster mom brushes her and puts paw wax on her. She appears to be mostly deaf but she can hear loud sounds. Dory is fine with cats & dogs & all people. Although her "foster sibling" has tried to get her to play, Dory doesn't seem interested. She doesn't do stairs (1 or 2 but not a flight of them) and she has been treated for Lyme disease. She is quite sweet, but not a needy dog. In fact Dory is somewhat indifferent, but we don't know yet if it is because she is just tired & recovering or just doesn’t need a lot of attention.  Dory is easy to walk. She may be slow but she keeps going and will do a half hour walk. She pees as soon as you take her out. She actually likes being outside. Dory is just a sweet senior gal (around 10 years old) who hasn't had an easy life until she was rescued - now she's enjoying all the good things life has to offer! Buttercup, a 3-5 year old, tricolor Australian Shepard was recently pulled from a local shelter. She came in to the shelter so badly matted that much of the heavy feathering of her hind quarters had to be cut away. The shelter gave her the name Buttercup and since that flower is said to represent joy, purity, happiness and friendship as well as playfulness, cheerfulness and sunshine we felt that it fits her perfectly. She walks nicely on a leash, loads easily and is great riding in a car. She gets along well with other dogs and appears to be housebroken. She must have eaten very well while she was at the shelter because she was a little chunky when we pulled her on 4/5/23, weighing 48 pounds. She needs to lose a little weight but that shouldn’t be a problem since she now has a big back yard to run in and other dogs to play with. The current pictures were taken on 4/13/23 the day she was groomed. Buttercup is spayed, up to date on vaccinations including a Bordetella for kennel cough, is heartworm negative and has been microchipped. She is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain her good health. Buttercup needs a home with a fenced back yard. She is being fostered in Arkansas. Her adoption donation is $665 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Buttercup and let this sweetheart bring some sunshine into your life, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

When his owner passed away, the family brought Marlo to a shelter in Texas because no one wanted him. Marlo is a handsome Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog who was born on 7/14/2012 and weighs 46 pounds (although he should lose a few pounds). His foster mom in Texas tells us that this boy is absolutely perfect! He will soon be heading to NJ to start the next chapter in his life.  Marlo loves his crate and jumps right into it although foster mom leaves him loose in the house when she leaves. He's a very mellow fellow who would be perfect for an older adopter. He doesn't really need to be walked although he loves getting out and he walks perfectly on a leash. Marlo hasn't been around small children but I am sure he would be fine. He doesn't jump, he doesn't run. Marlo never makes a sound.
