Story
Harriet is a very sweet and highly energetic girl. She may be shy initially, but once she warms up to you, she becomes a lap dog and loves getting pets. She is highly athletic and is a high jumper (jumps on people, tables, and couches). She would do best in a home that doesn't have small kids or older people. She might do well even in these settings but needs a patient pet parent willing to train her out of it. During her stay at foster home, she stayed with her foster dad and her foster sister (Ella, a small pomapoo). She liked playing with her sister and cuddling with her dad. However, she barks a lot if any new person enters the home. Her new parents should slowly introduce people she doesn't see daily so that she feels comfortable with them and not be aggressive. She has not barked at a single person or dog while walking. She was warm to strangers trying to pet her. She gets scared of noises and may get zoomies when she hears them. She is still learning how to walk on a leash and has improved significantly over the last month. She should never be left outside without a leash since she is very fast and may take off if she hears loud noises. She is highly food-motivated and eats almost anything and everything. When left alone, she should not have access to any food since she would find a way to get it and eat it (sometimes with the wrapper). She should ideally be fed through a slow feeder. She did best on the Hill Science Puppy Food among the different foods she tried. If you have another pet, the other pet should be fed away separately from Harriet since she may end up eating the pets food once she is done with her own!She is crate-trained but not fully home-trained. When in the crate, if she starts crying or whining suddenly, it indicates that she needs to be taken out for a potty break. However, she gets extreme social anxiety when left alone in her crate. She did well in her crate when her foster sister was at home. However, she cries continuously when her sister is not at home. For these reasons, she would do best in a home where her parents are available often or where she has another pet who can calm her down. Among the different toys, she likes the yellow tennis bowls the most. However, she destroys them easily and needs to replace them. Her food and water bowls should ideally be made of steel since she may chew the plastic bowl if left inside the crate. Her foster dad gave her baths, and she was okay with it and hair brushed. She never had her nails clipped and he is not sure how she would react to it. Overall she is a very lovely girl who would add a lot of joy to her parent's life. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 26.4 Age: 1yrs 1mths 2wks

Story
Meet Jack, a spirited canine resident of our shelter. Bursting with energy, Jack's playful nature is contagious. He loves nothing more than a game of fetch or a roughhousing romp with his fellow four-legged friends (excluding cats!). He has lived with dogs and is a little possessive of his food and would like to eat by himself. He also likes running, tugging, and walks where he demonstrates his skill at leash walking. Jack's enthusiasm for life is matched only by his need for affection. He's the type of dog who'll nuzzle into your side for a cuddle, his tail wagging a mile a minute. He's needy and never wants to be alone. Jack's lively demeanor is tempered by his gentle interaction with children, when he's not busy ignoring them, making him a wonderful family pet. His vocal nature and need for attention might be a bit much for some, but to others, it's a sign of his unwavering loyalty and love. He's already house trained and knows how to use a doggie door, making him a great fit for any home. However, his adventurous spirit sometimes leads him to wander, so a secure yard is a must. He weighs 66 pounds and knows the sit and come commands. Excitable and endearing, Jack is the epitome of man's best friend. Adopting lovable Jack means welcoming a bundle of joy and a loyal companion into your life. (tw 9/5/2024)

Story
Oh my goodness! This guy has turned out to be such a cutie. Arlo is a total character who will keep you laughing. Arlo was tied up behind an H&#226&#128&#145E&#226&#128&#145B for over 12 hours. Nobody knows how or why but thank goodness a Good Samaritan saw him and took him home. Arlo is an Australian shepherd mix about 3-4 years old. He weighs right around 40 pounds. He has the absolute cutest prance, a HUGE SMILE, and absolutely loves his “puppy massage” Arlo is up to date on vaccines and is neutered. Sadly he is heartworm positive but Scout’s Honor Rescue will cover the cost of his slow kill treatment. If interested in adopting or fostering Arlo please fill out the appropriate application and we will be in touch right away. September 12, 2024, 12:13 pm

Story
NAME: Colby Sex: male Color/Pattern: Fawn with white patches and gray freckles Breeds: Staffie, Australian Shepherd Cattle dog, Chow Chow, Bulldog, Husky Age at intake: 2 weeks old BDAY: June 30 2023 Coat length: short Description Colby is a quiet, pudgy, wide load puppy who has a beautiful pattern and coloration. Personality Colby is so pretty that we keep forgetting that he isn’t one of the girls. He is bigger than his sisters, so that is an indication. He is the most distinctive in his litter, with the most white and most freckles. He doesn’t stir the pot or cause any ruckus. He happily partakes in puppy piles and wrestling matches, but is good about pausing before someone takes it personally. He takes cues from other dogs and pays attention to tone and body language. His skills include hide and seek, being clumsy and waddling, and ofcourse eating and napping. Colby is a very sweet boy who will fit into any home, get along with everyone, and settle in quickly. He has been housetrained since 10 weeks old! He is very well socialized to other dogs, cats and people and loves attention. You can accidentally step on his tail and he won’t even react. Background Colby’s litter was born to a stray momma, Velveeta, who had been running loose in a neighborhood in Spring TX for many months. Velveeta is a red and black mixed breed who is only 35 pounds and was underweight when she arrived. She wouldn’t ever let anyone come close to her until she gave birth to her 8 puppies in a neighbors garage. Another neighbor then took her in to get them out of the extremely hot weather, and let her nurse her litter in their laundry room. When the puppies were 2 weeks old they were transferred to a GNAR foster home. 4 girls and 4 boys. Velveeta was a very good momma to them and taught them to be good dogs. Compatibility Dogs - yes Cats - yes Kids - yes If you are interested in meeting me, please contact my rescue family at GNARHouston@gmail to arrange a visit with my foster home!

Story
Description Fozzie is a happy, playful cattle dog mix. His eyes are a piercing light blue which makes him striking with his cream and white coat. Personality Fozzie is literally so smiley! A very happy dog who would make a great 1st pet. He is easy going and gets along great with other dogs. He listens and wants to please you. Talkative, active, but still acts demure. Fozzie is crate trained and housetrained. He is excited about going in his crate. He is happy to go outside and play. He is glad to come back inside and stoked when it is dinner time. Fozzie is compliant and cooperative. He is a generally pretty confident boy, especially when running with the other dogs. He will be your little shadow. Background Fozzie’s momma, Skye, was dumped near a farm on the outskirts of Houston with another male dog in March, 2023. The farmer who found them was threatening to shoot them so his granddaughter who lives in Cypress went and rescued them. They thought they had a rescue organization lined up for them, but it fell through, and in the meantime the male dog impregnated both Skye and the daughter’s female white lab. Subsequently, two litters of 6 were born in May for a total of 12 puppies. They were able to find homes for 9 of 12 puppies, and a shelter took the father dog, but Skye and 3 remaining puppies were still technically homeless 6 months later. GNAR took in Skye, and Fozzie’s siblings Cowabunga, and IceBerg. Then their brother Cookie was returned who had been adopted as a little puppy, for a total of 5 gorgeous dogs needing homes. If you would like to meet me email gnarhouston@gmail.com to get in contact with her foster home.
