Story
Meet Jack, a spirited canine resident of our shelter. Bursting with energy, Jack's playful nature is contagious. He loves nothing more than a game of fetch or a roughhousing romp with his fellow four-legged friends (excluding cats!). He has lived with dogs and is a little possessive of his food and would like to eat by himself. He also likes running, tugging, and walks where he demonstrates his skill at leash walking. Jack's enthusiasm for life is matched only by his need for affection. He's the type of dog who'll nuzzle into your side for a cuddle, his tail wagging a mile a minute. He's needy and never wants to be alone. Jack's lively demeanor is tempered by his gentle interaction with children, when he's not busy ignoring them, making him a wonderful family pet. His vocal nature and need for attention might be a bit much for some, but to others, it's a sign of his unwavering loyalty and love. He's already house trained and knows how to use a doggie door, making him a great fit for any home. However, his adventurous spirit sometimes leads him to wander, so a secure yard is a must. He weighs 66 pounds and knows the sit and come commands. Excitable and endearing, Jack is the epitome of man's best friend. Adopting lovable Jack means welcoming a bundle of joy and a loyal companion into your life. (tw 9/5/2024)

Story
Harriet is a very sweet and highly energetic girl. She may be shy initially, but once she warms up to you, she becomes a lap dog and loves getting pets. She is highly athletic and is a high jumper (jumps on people, tables, and couches). She would do best in a home that doesn't have small kids or older people. She might do well even in these settings but needs a patient pet parent willing to train her out of it. During her stay at foster home, she stayed with her foster dad and her foster sister (Ella, a small pomapoo). She liked playing with her sister and cuddling with her dad. However, she barks a lot if any new person enters the home. Her new parents should slowly introduce people she doesn't see daily so that she feels comfortable with them and not be aggressive. She has not barked at a single person or dog while walking. She was warm to strangers trying to pet her. She gets scared of noises and may get zoomies when she hears them. She is still learning how to walk on a leash and has improved significantly over the last month. She should never be left outside without a leash since she is very fast and may take off if she hears loud noises. She is highly food-motivated and eats almost anything and everything. When left alone, she should not have access to any food since she would find a way to get it and eat it (sometimes with the wrapper). She should ideally be fed through a slow feeder. She did best on the Hill Science Puppy Food among the different foods she tried. If you have another pet, the other pet should be fed away separately from Harriet since she may end up eating the pets food once she is done with her own!She is crate-trained but not fully home-trained. When in the crate, if she starts crying or whining suddenly, it indicates that she needs to be taken out for a potty break. However, she gets extreme social anxiety when left alone in her crate. She did well in her crate when her foster sister was at home. However, she cries continuously when her sister is not at home. For these reasons, she would do best in a home where her parents are available often or where she has another pet who can calm her down. Among the different toys, she likes the yellow tennis bowls the most. However, she destroys them easily and needs to replace them. Her food and water bowls should ideally be made of steel since she may chew the plastic bowl if left inside the crate. Her foster dad gave her baths, and she was okay with it and hair brushed. She never had her nails clipped and he is not sure how she would react to it. Overall she is a very lovely girl who would add a lot of joy to her parent's life. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 26.4 Age: 1yrs 1mths 2wks

Story
Est dob: 1/22/2019 Drax is a calm, friendly, affectionate, and very easy going guy. He’s about 4 years old and is an Australian Shepard mix. He is in a home with other dogs and has been with teenage kids as well. Drax is house broken, but always expect an adjustment when any pet enters a new environment. Unfortunately, Drax was fed way too much by his previous owners and has become a little overweight. He currently weighs in at 160 lbs which is way too much for him! He is on a vet supervised caloric diet which he has done very well with and has already started to lose some of those extra pounds! He is becoming more energetic as 4 year old dog should be, by playing more with his current foster's dog and toys. He would be a great addition to a family wanting to help him on his journey with starting off with slow short walks as he works towards his goals. Drax is in a foster home with other dogs and adults that he does well with.  Please consider making this handsome boy a member of your family. As we are a foster based rescue, we do require a completed application to be submitted before we arrange a meet.  This can be found on our website at :  https://almosthomepetrescue.org/apply-now-1  $200 adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care. All breed and size categorizations are estimates.  If transporting out of state, the total adoption cost will be $500. This amount is inclusive of adoption fee, transport fee, health certificate, and taxes.September 11, 2024, 12:09 am

Story
This is Booger. She is a 1.5 year old Australian shepherd mix with the most beautiful eyes. She loves car rides, toys, treats, and playing in water. She will jump in the tub with you if you give her the opportunity. She loves any kind of scratches she can get (she's very persuasive), guarding under your desk using your feet as a pillow, and most of all, sitting in your lap on the couch to watch a movie. She's incredibly smart and learns new tricks quickly. She does well on a leash with a harness. She's potty trained but will need to be let out regularly. She loves to chase the squirrels up the tree and protect the yard. She needs to go to a home without other dogs or cats. She's timid at first, but with treats warms up easily. I am not sure how she is around kids. If you're interested, please let me know. I want her to go to the best home for her, and unfortunately, I can not provide that as I have other dogs. If you open your home up to her, she will love and protect your family with everything she has. I would love updates if you're willing to provide them. She's a very special dog and deserves the right home that can bring out her best. She is currently not spayed, but I do have an appointment booked for her. She will also have her rabbies shot then. She has received the 10-way vaccine from TSC, but she is due for her reup. I'm willing to drive to meet you if you are further away. Please feel free to ask me any questions or if you have any concerns.

Story
Aussie is a 2 year old Aust Shepherd who came into our program July 22 and is currently living in a short term foster home. His fosters had this to say about Aussie, `We are finding that he is very friendly towards other pets (including squirrels and small dogs). He has no aggression towards anything we have found. He is doing great around children. If he gets his walks he is good and sleeps through all day. We`ve never heard him bark and he only cries if he wants to go out.He is such a smart dog too, he figured out how to use the door bell, sit, give paw, and use the doggy door very quickly.`
