Story
** I am currently being housed at our New York Avenue location. Come meet me at 1201 New York Avenue NE, every day from 12pm-7pm. Or visit humanerescuealliance.org/how-to-adopt to learn more. Widdle Bear. He's not tiny, but this Bear is a sweet lil young ‘un. His owner was not able to keep him and I'm sure Bear is wondering what's going on. A slow and gentle approach and the affectionate Bear knows it's ok to relax. At under a year, he's ready to get out into the world, at the end of your leash or maybe in a dog park and learn everything there is to learn. Not everyone gets a Bear, but you can have one in your home.Check out Bear's video! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/8qL_8Rdjqi8

Kobe's friendly nature, boundless energy, and love for humans make him an exceptional companion for anyone seeking an active and affectionate pet. Kobe's unique personality, stemming from his mix of bulldog and beagle traits, sets him apart. He finds joy in toys, belly rubs, laps, and hugs, making every interaction a delightful experience. If you're someone with an active lifestyle, Kobe could be your perfect running or hiking partner, showcasing his potential as a fantastic fit for individuals or families who love outdoor activities. This charismatic pup not only loves human companionship but also enjoys playing with other dogs. However, Kobe can be a bit possessive when it comes to his food and toys, so a home where he can be the sole pet would be ideal. At approximately 3 years old and weighing around 35 lbs, Kobe is ready to bring his infectious energy and affection into a forever home. Currently residing in boarding, he eagerly awaits the opportunity to be a part of a loving family. Are you the one who can offer Kobe the active lifestyle and affection he craves? Come meet Kobe and discover the joy of having a wonderful companion by your side! Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.           Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/  or email our Foster Coordinator at  foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSponsor Me!    Make a  tax-deductible donation  today by visiting us at http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/donate/. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Rufio is an old english bulldog, is 3yo, weighs 91lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped.  Rufio is alone about 6 hours each day and is kept in his crate.  At night, he sleeps in his bed in the bedroom.  He needs to be restrained in the car or else he will climb all around.  He currently eats Royal Canin Ultamino. Rufio's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "He is very sweet but he was not well trained or socialized. He is too large and strong for me to keep under control and he has been injuring me when he plays or gets too excited. He needs an owner who is better able to handle him and a larger house." Rufio's guardian offers a brief a medical history: "He has significant allergies that he is currently seeing a dermatologist for.  He is on an elimination diet and medication." Rufio's guardian states the following regarding children:  Rufio hasn't lived with children, but his guardian recommends his living with children ages 12 and older, stating "Rufio is very large and strong and jumps on people.  He should not live with children under 12". Rufio's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Rufio hasn't lived with dogs, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "Rufio is not socialized around other dogs.  He is not aggressive but he comes on way too strong and escalates play quickly which scares other dogs". Rufio's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Rufio lives with a cat, so his guardian recommends his living with cats, stating "He mostly ignores my cat and doesn't chase her". Rufio's guardian describes him as: Quiet Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Always at your side Indoor Only Pet House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes women and men (takes a bit to warm up to men since he's priimarily exposed to women) Rufio's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Rufio needs a larger house preferably with a fenced yard to exercise in.  Ideally, his new owners would be strong enough to handle him physically."
