Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Hilo (HE-low) Hilo is a 13-year-old, 27-lb Chihuahua/Beagle mix looking for a calm home to spend his golden years. Don’t let his age fool you — this little guy still loves life, especially walks, toys, treats, and car rides. Hilo is fully housebroken, walks nicely on leash, and is a classic couch-potato companion who enjoys relaxing nearby. He likes to stay close to his person and will happily follow you from room to room like a loyal shadow, but he’s not overly clingy and prefers lounging beside you rather than being a lap dog. One of Hilo’s cutest habits is getting excited for walks — he’ll actually try to grab his jacket out of your hand because he can’t wait to go outside. He does well with other dogs, has minimal barking, and would do best with older kids due to his age. Hilo would thrive in a home with someone who is retired or works from home, where he can enjoy companionship, daily walks, and plenty of cozy nap spots. Hilo came to rescue as an owner surrender and was a bit overweight at intake, but he’s been doing great in foster care. As a precaution, he eats kidney-support food and takes a few routine supplements to keep him feeling his best. (Nexguard Plus | 3 month supply: $123.79, Wellactin supplement | 120 capsules: $24.99) His favorite things include toys, food, treats, walks, and car rides. Loud noises and storms aren’t his favorite, but a warm spot near the fireplace and a comfy bed make everything better. “MILLI VANILLI was rescued just before “snowmagedon” - she and her family had been left in a trailer when their senior owner needed more care. She is currently in a foster home where she’s getting plenty of socialization. Here’s what her foster mom has to say: Milli Vanilli is a sweet 1yr 3mo old former teen mom ready for her forever home! She is a beagle mix that found herself in need of rescue when her mom was admitted to a nursing home. Milli warmed up to her foster parents, 4 dogs, and 2 cats immediately. She has been somewhat fearful of new people in her new surroundings, but easy to win over with treats. Milli is housebroken and alerts when she needs to go outside. She fiercely loves &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 and is loyal to those that love her. Milli Vanilli will be spayed on Feb 12, as well as vaccinated, heartworm tested and microchipped. She will patiently wait, loved and safe, for her new family.” Milli did have a nipping incident with the foster mom’s 18 year old son, Whom she had not yet met, when he came home the day she arrived. She was very slow to warm up to him. Because of this, we are recommending somebody who’s used to the “fight or flight“ behavior that frightened/unsocialized pups tend to present with - And somebody that can work with her ongoing socialization. DAISY came to us after her owner had a bad accident. She is eight years old and a solid girl at about 35-40 lbs. She will be available after her spay surgery mid May 2026. Daisy is currently in a foster home in Newark Delaware – here is a write-up from her foster mom… “Daisy is a beautiful, sweet beagle with an amazing personality. She is a gentle and seems adaptable to any environment. She plays like a puppy and loves toys, people and pets (possibly in that order). She comes house-trained and is very obedient. She is very adaptable and would do well with a family or an individual looking for a companion dog. She is a beautiful lemon colored beagle whose fur is very soft making her extremely huggable. Even her tail and ears are soft and huggable! Once she knows you, if you give her a kiss she immediately will give you a gentle kiss right back. She is house-trained and will go to door repeatedly and let you know if she needs to go out. Also, she sleeps on the floor and/or in a crate. If you like feeding the birds feel free to put as many feeders as you like in your yard. There won’t be any squirrel invaders on her watch. She also performs perimeter checks to make sure all is well and no critters have dared to enter your yard. She has a wide vocal selection, as most beagles, but has not done any excessive barking or whining. She will invoke a serious deep bark if intruders knock on the door and has yelped in pursuit of a squirrels. She is good eater and not picky and will not be aggressive to other dog’s food but will gobble it up if it is available and unattended. She loves walks. She walks fairly well on a leash with a harness. She is really special and anyone would be lucky to adopt her!” Daisy is good with other dogs and cats. She will receive pre-surgical bloodwork prior to her spay surgery and will be brought up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped and heartworm/tick borne disease tested. Adoption $250.
