Story
Excited at being given a second chance at life, 3-year-old Xena puts all of her 47 pounds into LOVING her fosters. Having bonded almost instantly, she thrives on their presence as much as their praise, and adores snuggling and cuddling with them, resting her head on them, showing her paw for attention, turning over for tummy rubs, then dancing and prancing about. Fond of tennis balls and toys, bones, buffalo horns and elk antlers, she’s eager to go on 1 – 1.5 hour walks in the morning, followed by plenty of running and playing before chilling out happily to recharge her batteries for much of the day. Initially shy around new dogs, people and children, she’s growing in confidence daily and is awesome in off leash areas, never straying too far and always coming back when called. She is, however, very strong, pulling strongly on her leash, and is working diligently with her fosters to modify this. Motivated mainly by love, followed by toys and food, highly intelligent and quick to learn, she currently knows “come,” “sit,” “down,” “stay,” and “off,” accepts all treats gently, eats and sleeps contentedly in her crate, and is almost fully house-trained. Now, for Xena to truly thrive, she needs a firm but loving “pack leader” to continue her socialization and honing her leash skills, teach her the rest of her commands, and keep her mentally and physically satisfied fur-ever.   Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure each pet finds the best possible home, we ask that you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application received in the order they're submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails). If your home sounds like a good match for you and the pet, we will connect you with our dogs' foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a 'meet and greet' is set up. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to finalize the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $375.  Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all DAPP boosters after adoption. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for any rabies vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls at this time.PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
