Meet Mika! He is a 1 yr old male Belgian Shepherd/Australian Kelpie mix mix that weighs 57lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/27 as a stray. He has such a loving, gentle, moderate personality. He enjoys being petted and loved on. Takes treats gently and walks well on a leash. Mika does walk with a bit of a wobble, due to an injury to his hip bone. He is doing much better and is anxious to find his own loving forever family. As the other dogs were barking at him, he showed no interest, but we always ask if there will be another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He would enjoy having a secured yard he can enjoy, then definitely come back inside where he can have his own comfy dog bed and the company of his human family. You just can`t resist Mika, he would make such a loving loyal companion.

Madeleine is a 3yr-old spayed female Belgium Shepherd/German Shepherd mix that weighs 73lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/16 as a stray. When she got out into the yard, she got distracted with smelling and was more relaxed. She frequently looked out over the wall. She may have been looking for her owners. She is well mannered. There were several times when it looked like she was going to jump on me, but didn’t when I told her no. She didn`t show any interest in the other dogs barking at her, yet if there is another dog in the home, please ask the shelter for a dog test. She sits for treats, takes them gently, and walks ok on a leash. She has the right amount of energy to be playful,but not overbearing. She’s really sweet and wants to please. Due to her size she would need a yard, but she deserves to spend quality time in her new home with her family.

A spirited six-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Malinois/Shepherd mix currently living in Richardson, TX, whose essence is a joyful whirlwind of energy wrapped in a tan coat with white and black accents. Also known as June Bug or Junie B. Jones, Juniper is equal parts cuddle queen and squirrel-chasing athlete! Her heart is as big as her bark, whether she’s gently checking on the kids in the house like a protective big sister or sounding the alarm when the mailman dares approach her kingdom, Juniper takes her guardian role seriously. She’s a ball-chasing, toy-destroying, high-energy companion who loves her routines, especially mealtimes (don’t worry, she’ll let you know if you're running late). Juniper is house-trained, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She also knows all the classics like sit, stay, down, heel, come, and gentle. She’s a natural at doggy parkour, zooming around the yard with the grace of a canine gymnast, and then crashing on the couch for a well-earned snuggle session. While Juniper absolutely thrives on love and companionship, she shines brightest as the only pet in a calm, stable home. In her current household, she’s experienced some tension with the resident dog, but during a recent six-week period as a solo pup, she blossomed! Relaxed, content, and completely in her element. When left alone with the other dog, Juniper has shown some signs of separation anxiety, but when she’s the only pet, she settles beautifully and can spend time alone with ease, enjoying her day until her people return. She’s also reactive on a leash when she sees other dogs or fast-moving critters like squirrels, so she’ll benefit from continued positive reinforcement training and a confident pet parent to help guide her on walks. She’s shy around other dogs and hasn’t spent much time with cats, so a pet-free environment would help her shine her brightest. Her ideal home includes a fenced yard for daily play and space to explore her inner squirrel detective. She’s wonderful with children and has a nurturing, “mother hen” nature.
