Meet Mika! He is a 1 yr old male Belgian Shepherd/Australian Kelpie mix mix that weighs 57lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/27 as a stray. He has such a loving, gentle, moderate personality. He enjoys being petted and loved on. Takes treats gently and walks well on a leash. Mika does walk with a bit of a wobble, due to an injury to his hip bone. He is doing much better and is anxious to find his own loving forever family. As the other dogs were barking at him, he showed no interest, but we always ask if there will be another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He would enjoy having a secured yard he can enjoy, then definitely come back inside where he can have his own comfy dog bed and the company of his human family. You just can`t resist Mika, he would make such a loving loyal companion.

Madeleine is a 3yr-old spayed female Belgium Shepherd/German Shepherd mix that weighs 73lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/16 as a stray. When she got out into the yard, she got distracted with smelling and was more relaxed. She frequently looked out over the wall. She may have been looking for her owners. She is well mannered. There were several times when it looked like she was going to jump on me, but didn’t when I told her no. She didn`t show any interest in the other dogs barking at her, yet if there is another dog in the home, please ask the shelter for a dog test. She sits for treats, takes them gently, and walks ok on a leash. She has the right amount of energy to be playful,but not overbearing. She’s really sweet and wants to please. Due to her size she would need a yard, but she deserves to spend quality time in her new home with her family.

Zara is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois Mix. We adopted her at 6 months from a shelter, the same day she came back from being fostered. She has lots of energy and loves attention. She has been around other dogs (that she loves to play with), she is great with cats because she use to live with one (she needs to be reminded to be gentle with cats), she absolutely loves kids (she will jump on them as well). She knows a couple of commands. She is not aggressive at all and she senses when you are upset/sad. Her favorite things to do are going on walks, going for a ride, chasing squirrels, and playing with toys that give her a challenge. She is afraid of thunderstorms. We just want her to have an amazing home with a family, or person, that has time for her!

Despite the pain and neglect he endured, Bronte’s spirit has remained unbroken.Thanks to the quick actions of our team and veterinary partners, Bronte received immediate medical care and is now on the mend. He`s on a strict feeding schedule to help his body safely re-acclimate to regular nutrition, and his leg is healing with continued care and rest.Through it all, Bronte has shown nothing but love and kindness. He’s extremely friendly and adores other dogs, especially his best friend, Dahlia, who’s been his companion during recovery. Theo is a two year-old neutered male, 64lb Shepherd mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/28 as a stray. Like I was saying he has made a complete turnaround because once he did get in the yard, he was galloping, prancing and almost bouncing happily back-and-forth. He was so happy he didn’t even want to come to me for petting. He just wanted to frolic. It was hot out, so I took him back into the meet and greet room. That’s when we became better acquainted. He came to me for petting. He’s real sweet and affectionate. He has love to give and wants to be loved in return. He did his business in the yard, and he may be housebroken. He now walks relatively well on a leash. Besides that he said he would like to snuggle inside on the couch with his new family.

Maya is a 2 year old 72 lb Canaan Dog/Shepherd mix that was brought into the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 12/8. Maya is a giant furball! And although she is soft and fluffy, it’s not all fur! She is stocky with a solid build. She could stand to lose a few pounds through a healthy diet and exercise. When I called her from across the yard she came running to me. Her tail was in constant wag mode. She’s can sit for treats, but only when she wants to. She is exuberant, friendly, frisky, alert, and playful. She walks OK on a leash. She may be housetrained to. She would make a wonderful family companion, with a secured yard to play in, then back inside to cuddle with her human companions.

Bucky is a 2 year-old male 58lb mixed breed that came in on 7/21 as a stray. When my dog scanner classified him as a Foxhound/Plott hound mix I understood why he kept his nose to the ground, making it difficult to get photos of him. The photos do not do him justice. When he was done exploring the yard, he came back to me wagging his tail and put his head on my lap. He is very affectionate and seeks attention. He sits for treats and takes them gently. He’s well behaved. He did his business in the yard. Going out to the yard he was hesitant about walking on the leash leash but going back he stayed close to me. He showed no interest in the other dogs barking at him. Hounds will follow their noses so Bucky needs to be in a secured yard. He also wants to lavish you with love by spending time with you indoors being close.
