Meet Mika! He is a 1 yr old male Belgian Shepherd/Australian Kelpie mix mix that weighs 57lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/27 as a stray. He has such a loving, gentle, moderate personality. He enjoys being petted and loved on. Takes treats gently and walks well on a leash. Mika does walk with a bit of a wobble, due to an injury to his hip bone. He is doing much better and is anxious to find his own loving forever family. As the other dogs were barking at him, he showed no interest, but we always ask if there will be another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He would enjoy having a secured yard he can enjoy, then definitely come back inside where he can have his own comfy dog bed and the company of his human family. You just can`t resist Mika, he would make such a loving loyal companion.

Meet Tomika, a German Shepherd/Belgian Shepherd mix girl found as a stray on 11/24 to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. She weighs 71lbs, is spayed, and is 1 1/2 years old. Though she does walk on a leash, she is a strong puller. Further leash training would be a great idea for Tomika. She does know the sit command and will do so for treats. She is a high energy youngster, and it seems as though a good fit would be an active family. At this point, she might not be a good fit for a home with very young children because she does jump on you. It would be ideal if she had a family that would give her daily playtime, exercise, and enrichment to burn off some of that excess energy. She wants to be part of the family circle. She doesn’t think that’s too much to ask!

Zara is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois Mix. We adopted her at 6 months from a shelter, the same day she came back from being fostered. She has lots of energy and loves attention. She has been around other dogs (that she loves to play with), she is great with cats because she use to live with one (she needs to be reminded to be gentle with cats), she absolutely loves kids (she will jump on them as well). She knows a couple of commands. She is not aggressive at all and she senses when you are upset/sad. Her favorite things to do are going on walks, going for a ride, chasing squirrels, and playing with toys that give her a challenge. She is afraid of thunderstorms. We just want her to have an amazing home with a family, or person, that has time for her!

He`s on a strict feeding schedule to help his body safely re-acclimate to regular nutrition, and his leg is healing with continued care and rest.Through it all, Bronte has shown nothing but love and kindness. He’s extremely friendly and adores other dogs, especially his best friend, Dahlia, who’s been his companion during recovery. Meet our energetic, shy, loving, sweet, people pleaser, Apple Jack. She is a 1.5 years old, 58 lb, Belgian Mallinois-Shepherd mix, with a growing physic, chocolate-brown shiny coat and a sweet disposition. Apple Jack was a rescue in a shelter who we couldn't say no to because she was only 19 lbs, very thin, and very shy when we saw her. We took her home and pampered her until she trusted us enough to eat healthy foods and gain a healthy weight where she is now. She is strong and her biggest attribute is that she a job seeker. She wants you to give her something to do. Apple Jack would love an active lifestyle as she just bubbles with a playful but loving spirit. She is a pup who loves to romp and play with other dogs and currently likes to play with our older 8 year old golden retriever-shepherd mix. She loves being around other dogs at daycare as well. She is not aggressive to other animals but would do better without a cat environment because she tends to want to play with them as well. If given the chance she would love to go with other dogs and run and play with sticks. She currently lives with 4 adults and occasionally will play with our 11 year old grandson. Her ideal home would be one where she could continue her training of tricks and have an active family lifestyle. Apple Jack is doing well with her crate training and just needs a little more attention during the day to play. She is one smart pup and just needs to know she is loved by her new forever home. Apple Jack is deserving a loving, kind, patient furever family home. Through no fault of Apple Jacks we are unable to continue to foster her as we are about to add a little baby to our home and cannot dedicate the time she needs for her activity and continued training. Theo is a two year-old neutered male, 64lb Shepherd mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/28 as a stray. Like I was saying he has made a complete turnaround because once he did get in the yard, he was galloping, prancing and almost bouncing happily back-and-forth. He was so happy he didn’t even want to come to me for petting. He just wanted to frolic. It was hot out, so I took him back into the meet and greet room. That’s when we became better acquainted. He came to me for petting. He’s real sweet and affectionate. He has love to give and wants to be loved in return. He did his business in the yard, and he may be housebroken. He now walks relatively well on a leash. Besides that he said he would like to snuggle inside on the couch with his new family.
