Animal Information: Mabel is an estimated 2-year-old, 60-pound female Malinois mix who wound up at the shelter as a stray. She had recently had puppies, and the responding officer believed she had been dumped in the area. When Mabel first arrived, she was very nervous and reserved in her kennel. With a little patience and encouragement from shelter staff, she slowly came out of her shell, and it didn’t take long for everyone to discover that she was actually a total lap dog! Mabel also did well in playgroups. She started off shy and unsure, but with a little time, she warmed up and began enjoying herself with the other dogs. Animal Information: Charlie Girl is an estimated 12-18-month old, 40 lb now spayed female mixed breed (possibly Whippet/Shep mix) with epic ears and a fantastic temperament. She was found as a stray (with Handsome Jack) on a large ranch property and processed through COH Animal Control. She was given just 72 hrs because the shelter was beyond capacity so PAWHI stepped in and found her (and Jack) foster placement. In foster care Charlie has learned house-training, crate-training, and leash-training, is comfortable with handling, takes treats gently and shows no behavior issues like resource guarding. She is social and friendly with dogs and people including young children. She has not been evaluated with cats. This sweet and easy going girl is joining Dog Gone Seattle and we look forward to getting to know her in foster care. Foster Profile: Meet Charlie! Charlie is a 1½-year-old Whippet/Shepherd mix with the sweetest personality. She is affectionate, friendly, and eager to please. She settled into foster care immediately, warming up to everyone she's met with a gentle, submissive nature. She loves playing with other dogs (of all sizes) but would also do well as the only dog in a home with plenty of love and the occasional playdate. She is crate trained, potty trained, rides well in the car, and is wonderfully quiet. Charlie is highly food-motivated and eager to learn. She already knows sit, down, and touch. Animal Information: Gaia is an estimated almost 18-month-old female, German Shepherd/Malinois mix, weighing approximately 73lbs. Gaia means "Greek mother of all life". She was found as a stray with her 10 puppies. She had been at the Devore animal shelter for 2 weeks and was euth listed due to space. Thanks to a Seattle area foster stepping up to take the family in, they were all saved. Foster Profile: Gaia is an incredible girl. Everyone who meets her becomes an instant fan. After raising her pups, she is more than ready to be a puppy herself. While she was originally estimated to be around 6 years old, our team feels confident she is closer to 18 months. Her playful personality shines through in everything she does. She is engaging, affectionate, and always up for fun. That said, she is still a Malinois. Smart, active, and occasionally a little mischievous if she gets bored. Gaia is great on leash, rides well in the car, and is fully potty trained. When left alone, she does need a high quality crate, we use Kennel Boss, as she is clever enough to let herself out of a standard wire crate. In the home, she settles in nicely, but like any Malinois, she thrives with structure and engagement. She is confident and neutral around other dogs. FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED: Adoptable Junnie! He is a ~4.5-5 year-old, Malinois mix who is looking for his forever home! He came to us around 9 months old, and has been waiting for a foster or forever home with us for 4 years. He would love to find his forever family ❤️ Junnie is a happy and sweet boy who loves to play and be active! He will require an active family that has experience with working breeds. He would make a great outdoors (hiking/camping/running etc) partner. He loves to play with toys and loves fetch! Junnie has been working on his dog socialization skills during his time with us and has made massive strides in what used to be overexcited puppy mouthiness, pretty typical for a young Malinois mix! He has done great with other dogs in our care on walks, and during meets, and group socializing. We do not know how he will be with another dog in the home, so meeting any existing pets in the home is a must. He would also do great as an only dog soaking up all the affection and continuing dog socialization outside of the home. He will require a home with a fenced yard for running and playing, no apartments. Junnie bonds deeply to his person/people, and can take a bit to gain trust with new people. She was adopted from Kitsap Humane Society three years ago and has been waiting over a year to be rehomed. Her current owner is moving due to health reasons and was forced to surrender her. She has lived with a cat, but her limited time outside the crate makes it unclear how well she is fully integrated. Zoey is house trained, crate trained, and has basic obedience skills. She is dog friendly. She is social with people and seeks out attention. Foster Profile: This girl is an absolute delight—sweet, a little goofy, and whip-smart, with the kind of personality that makes her instantly lovable. She has blossomed in her foster home. She's equally happy chasing a frisbee, running after a ball, or hitting the trail for a good walk, and then just as content to curl up next to you in full snuggle mode with her dinosaur stuffy in tow, always (she has one very special toy that goes everywhere with her, and yes, it's exactly as cute as it sounds). She's a total water baby, and lights up at any chance to hit the beach and play in the waves. Zoey isn't a velcro dog, but she does like to keep her people in sight. She is content to do her own thing nearby rather than always stay underfoot. She's crate and potty trained, knows basic commands, and "crates up" like a champ when asked. She'd be perfectly happy as an only dog since she's so devoted to her people, but she'd would also love to have a canine sibling or a family of kids eager to play with her. Though not excessively vocal, typical for her breed, Zoey does have a fairly loud protective bark. We think she will do best with a bit of space and ideally a fenced yard. Animal Profile: Rico is a 6-year-old (DOB 10/1/2019), 80 lb neutered male German Shepherd with a very sad story looking for a brighter future. He seems older than his years, due to his history of neglect, but he is now safe in foster care and getting the TLC he will need to thrive. Rico has some chronic skin issues that are improving, but will need ongoing supportive care with quality food and supplements. He will also need a structured exercise regimen to promote muscle growth and weight loss. Rico is open to connection with a human -- you can see it in his eyes. He has no aggressive tendencies with humans or dogs but is just awkward with interaction. You can see he wants to do it! He is house trained (with regular access to potty breaks) and crate trained, and has quickly learned some basic obedience such as sit and heel in foster care. He does not have any reactivity on leash but does pull without a prong collar. He seems to have some prey drive for toys (which will be helpful for connection and his spirit!) and cars. We will test him with cats and share that info. More updates as we get to know him. Animal History: Rico was purchased from Tannerhaus GSD, a "reputable breeder" (we DO NOT recommend) that advertises they take their dogs back, but when Rico's senior owner had to move to assisted living, the breeder did not uphold the contract. Rico's family discovered that Rico had not been let outside regularly in years, was forced to potty in the house, and did not have regular access to water; he was more of a well-fed houseplant with limited mental or physical stimulation, or even touch. His owner's family could not find placement for him and moved him to a kennel where he stayed for months and developed skin issues, including a systemic fungal infection. When they could no longer afford to kennel him, they reached out and we could not refuse to help him. Rico found emergency placement with The Good Dog Way in Bellingham (6/9/2025) and began his journey to recovery. He is now in foster care in Bothell and making great progress. He is available for adoption to the greater Seattle area, though we are continuing to work on his physical and mental condition. We will update his profile as he progresses.
