Story
Daisy is a 6-month-old (as of August 1, 2023) mixed breed pup whose owner had to relinquish her due to incompatibility with her other female dog, the "alpha" dog in the home. Daisy did well with the two male dogs, and in our experience here she has done well with another female that is not a dominant girl. We think she is probably Shepherd-Border Collie or some such mix, and she's incredibly smart. Daisy "play-nips" gently when excited, which makes us think Border Collie or some other herding breed may be in her gene pool. She's mostly housebroken, knows many commands (typically having to be told only once), aims to please, and loves long walks. Her ex-owner says Daisy "is an absolutely wonderful dog" whom she will greatly miss.

Story
Chino is a good dog for the right home, but he has two flaws: he doesn't care to share an environment with any other dogs, and he can escape from almost any confinement. Since we like Border Collies in general, and since he was "overdue" at his animal shelter one day when we were there picking up another dog, he was also chosen and saved. We quickly learned that the part of Chino that is not Border Collie is probably one of the tundra breeds like Malamute, because we had to fully enclose every inch of his kennel to keep him in. (This was after he escaped from four previous attempts to kennel him.) The good news is that after escaping he only wanted to stay by the side of his human friends here at the rescue, so he'll need a pretty much constant human companion. Chino is about 3 years old and weighs about 80 pounds.

Story
Remi (3yrs) is a sweetie with a big heart and endless love to give. She has a lot of energy, loves her ball. I have tried everything to give her a good life, but I have come to realize she needs more than I can offer her. I am in search of someone with a lot of experience in dealing with dogs with anxiety and panic attacks. She needs someone who has the heart and patience to work her through her fears and rehabilitate her. When Remi was about a year old, we had to fly across the country. Since that flight, she has developed noise aversions and extreme anxiety. Due to these noise aversions (trash trucks, busses, sometimes people screaming), she fears going on walks/being outside. At night, if she hears an off sound, she has panic attacks (her trying to dig into a corner). We have tried vet behavioral therapy, training and medications. She is a work in progress, but I have exhausted my resources/abilities and I know she needs someone with more patience/experience/time.

Stripey is 1 of 7 dogs that was born on July, 4th 2021! He is 2 years old! He was born from my only dog named Mila, a border collie mix. I am looking for a new home for him because I can’t maintain 5 dogs on my own. Stripey is sweet, gentle with people and other dogs. Really mellow when he’s next to you but can be really energetic and fun to play with! He loves to play fetch!! He knows how to sit and give paw. Takes direction with ease!

Story
HI I'm Miss Pepperpot! Nice to meet you! I'm around 6-7 months old and currently weigh 28 lbs. Probably won't get much bigger. I am a big personality and a herding breed so a human who is a leader and who is active is best. I am good with dogs. I'm a mouthy puppy so I might be too much for young kids. I can't wait to meet you! *please note All of our dogs are in private foster homes. Once you fill out an application it will be screened by our volunteer adoption team. From there, if your application looks like a good fit for the particular dog, it will be sent to the foster where you can ask all the questions you would like and schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs. If you apply from out of state we do request you come to Los Angeles to meet us and fly home in cabin or drive. www.apurposefulrescue.org

She is also wicked smart and learns new skills quickly. In her current repertoire she can sit, sit pretty, lie down, spin, she knows stay and come, and she's working on going to her place when asked. Reach out to our adoptions team if you'd like to learn more about this sweet lady!

Photo of Betsy

Betsy

Australian Cattle Dog

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Betsy was on a final plea list from a southern CA animal shelter when we picked her up. The shelter had been seeking rescue for her for quite some time with no response, primarily due to her behavior. Betsy isn't very accepting of new people and a new owner will need to give her plenty of time to bond without making demands on her. In our opinion, she's more of a working dog than a family pet. In other words, she's a serious dog, not a cuddler. She will make a good protector of her domain, and hopefully she'll be accepting of the folks she comes to know and trust. At 2 years old, Betsy is full-grown and she's solid, at 43 pounds. *We try to keep our posts up-to-date but there may be more dogs available for adoption than we have shared here. Please go to our website at www.dobiesandlittlepawsrescue.org to see all of our available dogs and fill out our adoption application.

Story
Racer is a newly-rescued Queensland Heeler (Cattle Dog) who came in with a female Heeler, so we paired them in our kennel. Racer seemed to become so overstimulated in our kennel environment that he bullied the female, so we placed her separately. He was then kenneled with a female Doberman, and that didn't go well either. Racer may be able to live with another dog in a home environment that is less stressful, but he might also do better as the only dog. He's just a year old, and he's small, at 29 pounds. The folks at the vet clinic where we had him neutered said he was calm and well-behaved.

Story
Daisy is a sweet dog who enjoys treats and hugs. Unfortunately, she is not compatible with our older dog, and due to time constraints, we are unable to provide her with the attention she needs. Daisy is best suited for a single-pet household, as she doesn't fare well sharing her humans with other dogs. While she gets along with a calm cat, we recommend not leaving them alone together to avoid potential issues. Based on our experience, Daisy can be initially wary of strangers, but once she warms up, she becomes a loving companion. We have not observed any aggressive behavior towards humans, but she can be reactive and overprotective around other dogs, potentially causing stressful situations. For Daisy's well-being and a successful rehoming, we believe a one-pet home would be the ideal environment. I would also recommend Daisy to only be taken in by a family with older children(8+) that are taught how to interact appropriately with pets because she is not around children often.
