Story
Boy, do I have a story. I was a stray in San Pedro, raising my puppies on the street, until Forte stepped in and saved us. I got checked out, and for the first time, I started to learn that people can be kind and life can be safe. This is my first time living in a home environment, and I’m learning quickly—routine, structure, and trust. Every day, I’m getting more comfortable and more connected. Looking for someone who understands this is all new and will continue providing guidance. In return, I’ll give you real loyalty and connection. You can also see my babies, Sky and Spirit, on the Forte website—they’re looking for homes too. If you are interested in meeting Cielo, please download the Adoption Questionnaire, fill it out and email it back to us at info@farescue.org or fax (310) 362-0321. You can also meet this and/or other available dogs at our weekend adoptions. [Cielo is about 1 year old and weighs 40 lbs.] (2604)

Story
Meet Hazel   A Gentle Border Collie Looking for Her Forever Family   Hazel is a sweet, affectionate 2-year-old Border Collie with a calm personality and a heart full of love. She may not have had the easiest start in life, but she’s ready to leave her past behind and find a family to call her own.   Name: Hazel Age: 2 years Breed: Border Collie Sex: Spayed Female Weight: 20 kg (44 lbs) Height: 46 cm (18 in) at the shoulder Color: Black & White   Rescue Story Hazel is Aesop’s mother. She was found at a highway rest stop and brought to a municipal shelter in February, where it was discovered that she was pregnant. She gave birth to Aesop at the shelter, and today her puppy has safely joined her forever family in Vancouver to begin her new life. Now it’s Hazel’s turn to find the loving family she deserves.   Personality   Hazel is incredibly affectionate and people-oriented. She happily approaches both familiar faces and strangers, enjoys being petted, and loves the company of both men and women.   She can easily be picked up by placing an arm under her belly—but instead of being lifted, she’ll often dramatically flop onto her back for belly rubs! Even people she has just met are greeted with a trusting belly-up welcome.   With Other Dogs   Hazel is polite when meeting new dogs and enjoys saying hello, but she doesn’t have much interest in playing with them. She much prefers spending time with people.   If another dog bothers her while she’s relaxing, she’ll let them know she’d rather be left alone by shooing them away. However, she has no aggression and does not start fights. She’s simply an independent, peaceful girl.   Cats   She may curiously watch cats during walks, but she easily follows her handler without reacting. A formal cat test can be arranged if needed.   Energy Level   Hazel has a low energy level and is happiest lounging nearby and relaxing with her family. She absolutely enjoys going for walks, making her an ideal companion for someone looking for a calm dog who still appreciates daily outdoor adventures.   Walking   Hazel has a mild leash pull but is easy to handle. Like many dogs, she enjoys stopping to sniff and explore her surroundings.   More About Hazel   No food guarding toward people or other dogs Rarely barks Calm and quiet in a crate Mostly potty trained for outdoor elimination   Hazel is a gentle, easygoing girl who asks for very little—just kindness, love, and a soft place to rest. After raising her puppy, it’s finally her time to be someone’s beloved companion. Could that family be yours? Flash is a wonderful dog, perfect for the right owner. He’s smart, active, affectionate, knows lots of commands and tricks. However he should not be in a home with kids. He is trained, and would do best with an owner with some working dog experience.

Story
Meet Django! A bright two-year-old mixed breed currently in Bend, OR, whose sleek black coat with white accents frames a thoughtful face always watching the world with curiosity. At about 50 pounds, this medium sized boy is a smart, active companion who builds deep bonds with his people and celebrates their return home like it is the best moment of the day! Django is the kind of dog who thrives when he has both connection and purpose. He loves to cuddle with the people he trusts, often leaning close for affection or curling up for a cozy nap near the fireplace. That sweet, affectionate side shines brightest once he feels comfortable and safe with his family. Adventure is equally important to him. Django absolutely loves toys of every kind! Balls, sticks, frisbees, and anything that can be tossed for a game of fetch quickly become his favorite treasures. He enjoys walks, runs, and even swimming, and he proudly carries a stick or ball during walks as if it is his special job for the day. His intelligence shows in how much he enjoys training and learning. Django already knows many cues including sit, stay, down, come, heel, place, leave it, drop it, no bark, and ok as a release cue. Practicing these skills with positive reinforcement helps keep his mind engaged and happy. Django does experience fear based reactivity in certain situations. He can feel uncertain around unfamiliar noises, unexpected distractions, or dogs encountered while walking on leash. Because of this, he requires thoughtful management when out in public and benefits from a predictable routine and continued behavior support with an experienced pet parent. He also has a history of resource guarding with another dog around food, toys, or personal space, and there was one minor nip incident involving an unfamiliar person. Meeting guests outside first and allowing him to warm up helps him feel secure. Django currently takes daily Fluoxetine to help manage anxiety. With structure, exercise, and patient guidance, he continues to grow in confidence! He would thrive in a quieter, child-free and cat-free home, likely as the only dog, with an active family who understands reactive dogs and enjoys training. Could Django be the thoughtful adventure partner you have been looking for?
