Story
🐾 Meet Jack 🐾 Jack is a handsome 15-month-old Border Collie mix weighing just under 60 pounds, and if you're looking for a dog who will become your loyal shadow, biggest cuddle bug, and adventure partner, this sweet boy is ready to steal your heart. Jack came to Melissa's Second Chances after being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Oklahoma. Despite everything he's been through, he has never stopped loving people. In fact, one of Jack's favorite things in the world is wrapping his front paws around someone for one of his famous hugs. Once you earn his trust, he'll happily lean into you for comfort, affection, and reassurance. Jack is wonderfully social with other dogs and absolutely loves having canine friends to wrestle and play with. His foster home includes a German Shepherd mix and a Cattle Dog mix, and they have become his biggest confidence boosters. He would thrive in a home with another friendly, well-adjusted dog who can continue showing him that the world isn't such a scary place. While Jack has made incredible progress, he's still learning that unexpected noises and unfamiliar situations don't have to be frightening. Construction sounds, sudden loud noises, or surprising encounters on walks can make him nervous. When that happens, he looks to his person for reassurance and guidance. The good news? Jack learns remarkably fast. With calm leadership, positive reinforcement, and consistency, his confidence continues to grow every single day. He's already developing wonderful manners. Jack walks nicely on a leash, settles beautifully in his crate at bedtime, rides quietly in the car, and lets you know when he needs to go outside. He's eager to please, responds well to gentle corrections, and loves learning alongside the people he trusts. One of Jack's most endearing quirks is mealtime. Because of his past, eating can sometimes make him feel vulnerable. He often prefers having his favorite person nearby while he eats, almost as if he's asking someone to watch his back. It's just another reminder that beneath his big, athletic frame is an incredibly gentle soul who's learning what it means to feel safe. Jack would do best with a family that understands confidence-building isn't a weekend project—it's a journey. He'll flourish with patient adopters who enjoy training, celebrate small victories, and understand that trust grows through kindness and consistency. A fenced yard, another playful dog, and an active household where he can enjoy walks, car rides, swimming, hiking, or simply spending time with his people would be ideal. Every week Jack becomes a little braver, a little more confident, and a little more convinced that life is full of good things. His forever family won't just be adopting a wonderful dog—they'll have the privilege of watching him continue to blossom into the confident companion he's always had the potential to become. And once you've experienced one of Jack's signature hugs, you'll understand why everyone who meets him falls in love. ❤️🐾 ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt. Story
Hi friends! My name is Willy. I'm a border collie mix of sorts and quite handsome if I do say so myself. I'm a bit of a special dog, a real shy guy, but if someone would just give me a chance I will make a great companion. I love other dogs, as long as they're friendly, and I absolutely must go to a home with another friendly dog or two to show me I'm in a safe place. We all need some reassurance sometimes, right? I also need a fenced yard. Whoever my new owner is will need to be able to give me lots of time and space to feel comfortable with them. I'm a really good boy, I'm crate trained and house broken, but until I get used to you I'm gonna need you to keep your paws to yourself. I promise it's not personal, and you'll see I'm worth the wait! Willy is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. He's located at The Pet Connection Sanctuary in Beloit, KS, but transportation to the right home may be available. To learn more about Willy please contact The Pet Connection by call or text- 913-671-PETS (7387).

Meet Blitz, our friend with City of Raytown Animal Services! She's a fun-loving border collie mix, around a year old. She is super smart, loves other dogs and kids, and is looking for a home with people who are familiar with or willing to learn about herding breed dogs. Blitz loves going on adventures and is a very good girl in the car! When her friend took her on a day out of the shelter, including to pick out a toy, Blitz had soooo much fun! Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 for more information. She's in the Kansas City metro, but transport might be available.

Story
Oh my goodness, Beatrix. Cute much? It’s hard to believe she’s even cuter in person! Left behind when her previous people moved away, this approximately 1-year-old Border Collie mix is approximately 55 lbs. Her estimated DOB March 2025. She is doing beautifully in foster care, learning all the things a young dog should know. While she can be initially shy with new experiences, Border Collies are smart and Beatrix is no exception. This gal is something special. Her foster mom shared: • Beatrix is in training to work on manners and learns quickly. • She is very food motivated and eager to please. • She is nervous around strangers at first but warms up quickly. • Beatrix would do best with an active family (she loves walks) and a fenced yard. • She would also do best with another dog in the home. • Once comfortable, B is cuddly, affectionate, and loves staying by your side. Belly rubs are her favorite! • She loves her stuffies, too. • She is dog friendly and loves going to doggie daycare. • She is house trained and kennel trained. • We do not know how she is with cats. Beatrix is ready for her forever family, who will give her the love and guidance she deserves. If you’re good, she’ll even train you how to rub her belly just the way she likes. Are you ready to welcome fun and affection to your life? Start by completing and submitting an application for Beatrix. A volunteer will be in touch. https://www.parkvilleshelter.com/adoption-application FOPAS is primarily run by volunteers who are passionate about animal welfare and are dedicated to our animals for their entire lives. As such, we screen all potential adopters and strive to match each adopter with the perfect fit for their lifestyle and activity level. All adopters must live within a 4 hour drive of Parkville, Missouri.

Story
Meet Trail! Trail is a handsome Border Collie mix with a bright future ahead of him—he just needs someone to give him a chance. Trail has been waiting at the Chillicothe Animal Shelter for a family to call his own. During his stay, he was selected to participate in Missouri's Puppies for Parolees program, where shelter dogs receive obedience training, socialization, and valuable life skills while working with inmate trainers. Because of the program, Trail has a great training foundation and is ready to continue learning with his future family. Trail also does well with other dogs, making him a great candidate for a home with a canine companion or for someone looking to add another dog to the family. After waiting patiently for someone to notice him, Trail is ready to leave shelter life behind and discover what it feels like to have a family of his own. Could that family be yours? Basics: He is a neutered male guessed to be around 1.5 yrs old and weighs close to 40lbs. Adoption Process: - STEP 1: Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application - One of our team members will get back to you via phone. - Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding - Adoption fee of $200 helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip. -We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available. About Day of the Dogs Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances. Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets. Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region — communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes. We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together. Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission. Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations. Every transport, veterinary appointment, supply purchase, and life saved is possible because of supporters who believe every dog deserves a chance. Donate or learn more: www.dayofthedogs.org

Story
🐾 Meet Lucy If your idea of a great dog is one who wants to be your sidekick for whatever the day brings, Lucy may be ready to volunteer for the job. ❤️ Lucy is a beautiful young Australian Shepherd who is sweet, affectionate, playful, and packed with that wonderful young-dog enthusiasm for life. Her previous owner describes her as “super sweet,” energetic, and clingy—and in Lucy's case, clingy means she'd really like to be part of whatever her people are doing. She's also got an impressive compatibility report card: Lucy is reported to be great with dogs, cats, and kids. She has lived as an indoor dog and is both house trained and crate trained. At just a year and a half old, Lucy has plenty of energy and will do best with people who actually want an active companion. Walks, adventures, playtime, training games, enrichment, and opportunities to use that busy brain should all be part of her life. Give Lucy appropriate outlets for her energy and you'll get to enjoy the affectionate girl underneath who loves being close to her people. Lucy can be energetic and pace when she's left alone, so she'll benefit from a family willing to help her develop a comfortable routine and continue building her ability to settle independently. She is crate trained, which gives her new family a helpful foundation to work from. Australian Shepherds are bright dogs who thrive when their bodies and brains both have something to do, and Lucy sounds ready for exactly that kind of partnership. She's not looking for a life where nothing ever happens—she wants to participate! Lucy is losing her home simply because her owner no longer has the time or ability to provide the care she needs. At only 1½, she has virtually her entire adult life ahead of her and is ready to spend it with people who have the time, energy, and love to make her a real member of the family. If you're looking for a smart, affectionate, energetic companion who would be delighted to join the adventure—and then stick close to her favorite humans—come meet Lucy. 🐾💕 ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Paige 💗 Paige is a 2-year-old, medium-sized sweetheart who is finally getting the chance to find the kind of home she’s always deserved. Paige’s story started when she was just a young dog, dumped in a ditch in rural Missouri. She was taken in by a family who tried to help her, but could no longer offer her the care she deserved. When Paige ended up getting pregnant, her puppies needed help, some wonderful local rescuers reached out to Melissa’s Second Chances. Of course, we couldn’t leave mama behind. ❤️ Now her puppies are safe, and it’s Paige’s turn to be someone’s baby. Paige is an incredibly sweet girl who loves people. Her previous owners says she is good with dogs and kids, and she’s already proven herself to be a great leash walker! Having spent most of her life in the country, Paige can be nervous around lots of cars, noise, and hustle and bustle. She may be happiest in a quieter home where she can settle in at her own pace and discover just how good life can be. 🐾 Paige at a Glance * 2 years old * Approximately 30 lbs * Medium-sized * 🐶 Reportedly dog friendly * 👧 Reportedly kid friendly * 🦮 Great leash walker * 💗 Sweet and people-loving * 🌾 More comfortable with a quieter lifestyle (nervous with loud noises, busy traffic, and city hustle and bustle) Paige has spent enough of her young life simply making do with what she was given. Now that she’s finished raising her babies, we’d love to see her find a family who chooses her, too. 🏡💕 ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Cooper 🐾 Cooper is a 3-year-old Heeler mix with a playful personality, plenty of energy, and a gentle heart. This handsome guy loves to play and would make a great companion for someone looking for an active dog to join them on adventures. Despite his energetic side, Cooper knows how to be gentle — especially with kids. He has lived with three children who love petting and playing with him, and he does wonderfully with them. Cooper also does well with other dogs. He can be a little reserved when meeting a new canine friend, but it doesn’t take him long to warm up and start playing. Cooper is crate trained and has spent his life living both indoors and outdoors. Because of that, he may need a little patience and consistency as he adjusts to living fully indoors and learns the routines of his new home. He generally behaves well when left alone, although his curiosity can occasionally get the best of him when no one is watching. Cooper has never lived with cats, so we don’t know how he would do with feline friends. If you’re looking for a fun, playful dog who can keep up with an active family but still has a sweet and gentle side, Cooper might be your guy! 💙 ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt.
