Story
🐾 Meet Jack 🐾 Jack is a handsome 15-month-old Border Collie mix weighing just under 60 pounds, and if you're looking for a dog who will become your loyal shadow, biggest cuddle bug, and adventure partner, this sweet boy is ready to steal your heart. Jack came to Melissa's Second Chances after being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in Oklahoma. Despite everything he's been through, he has never stopped loving people. In fact, one of Jack's favorite things in the world is wrapping his front paws around someone for one of his famous hugs. Once you earn his trust, he'll happily lean into you for comfort, affection, and reassurance. Jack is wonderfully social with other dogs and absolutely loves having canine friends to wrestle and play with. His foster home includes a German Shepherd mix and a Cattle Dog mix, and they have become his biggest confidence boosters. He would thrive in a home with another friendly, well-adjusted dog who can continue showing him that the world isn't such a scary place. While Jack has made incredible progress, he's still learning that unexpected noises and unfamiliar situations don't have to be frightening. Construction sounds, sudden loud noises, or surprising encounters on walks can make him nervous. When that happens, he looks to his person for reassurance and guidance. The good news? Jack learns remarkably fast. With calm leadership, positive reinforcement, and consistency, his confidence continues to grow every single day. He's already developing wonderful manners. Jack walks nicely on a leash, settles beautifully in his crate at bedtime, rides quietly in the car, and lets you know when he needs to go outside. He's eager to please, responds well to gentle corrections, and loves learning alongside the people he trusts. One of Jack's most endearing quirks is mealtime. Because of his past, eating can sometimes make him feel vulnerable. He often prefers having his favorite person nearby while he eats, almost as if he's asking someone to watch his back. It's just another reminder that beneath his big, athletic frame is an incredibly gentle soul who's learning what it means to feel safe. Jack would do best with a family that understands confidence-building isn't a weekend project—it's a journey. He'll flourish with patient adopters who enjoy training, celebrate small victories, and understand that trust grows through kindness and consistency. A fenced yard, another playful dog, and an active household where he can enjoy walks, car rides, swimming, hiking, or simply spending time with his people would be ideal. Every week Jack becomes a little braver, a little more confident, and a little more convinced that life is full of good things. His forever family won't just be adopting a wonderful dog—they'll have the privilege of watching him continue to blossom into the confident companion he's always had the potential to become. And once you've experienced one of Jack's signature hugs, you'll understand why everyone who meets him falls in love. ❤️🐾 ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt. Story
Oh my goodness, Beatrix. Cute much? It’s hard to believe she’s even cuter in person! Left behind when her previous people moved away, this approximately 1-year-old Border Collie mix is approximately 55 lbs. Her estimated DOB March 2025. She is doing beautifully in foster care, learning all the things a young dog should know. While she can be initially shy with new experiences, Border Collies are smart and Beatrix is no exception. This gal is something special. Her foster mom shared: • Beatrix is in training to work on manners and learns quickly. • She is very food motivated and eager to please. • She is nervous around strangers at first but warms up quickly. • Beatrix would do best with an active family (she loves walks) and a fenced yard. • She would also do best with another dog in the home. • Once comfortable, B is cuddly, affectionate, and loves staying by your side. Belly rubs are her favorite! • She loves her stuffies, too. • She is dog friendly and loves going to doggie daycare. • She is house trained and kennel trained. • We do not know how she is with cats. Beatrix is ready for her forever family, who will give her the love and guidance she deserves. If you’re good, she’ll even train you how to rub her belly just the way she likes. Are you ready to welcome fun and affection to your life? Start by completing and submitting an application for Beatrix. A volunteer will be in touch. https://www.parkvilleshelter.com/adoption-application FOPAS is primarily run by volunteers who are passionate about animal welfare and are dedicated to our animals for their entire lives. As such, we screen all potential adopters and strive to match each adopter with the perfect fit for their lifestyle and activity level. All adopters must live within a 4 hour drive of Parkville, Missouri.

Story
Meet Sana 💙🐾 | 3-Month-Old Blue Heeler Mix | 10 lbs Sana may have had a rough start to life, but you’d never know it by the way she approaches each day. After being rescued from a cage at an outdoor swap n shop, she’s discovering just how wonderful life can be—and she’s ready to find a family to share it with. This smart little girl is already proving just how intelligent Heelers are. In just a short time with her foster family, Sana has learned “sit,” is doing fantastic on a leash, happily heads to her crate when it’s time to rest, and is making amazing progress with potty training. She’s already about 80% potty trained using both potty pads and trips outside. While she’s incredibly bright, Sana also has a softer side. She loves curling up for cuddles after playtime and is happiest when she’s close to her people. Like any Blue Heeler puppy, Sana is energetic, curious, and eager to learn. She’ll thrive with a family committed to training, socialization, and giving her plenty of physical exercise and mental enrichment as she grows. She’s friendly with children but, as a herding breed, she’ll need supervision around young kids while she learns appropriate manners. If you’re looking for a loyal, active companion who will happily join you on every adventure—and then snuggle up afterward—Sana might be your perfect match. ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Audie 💙🐾 | 3-Month-Old Blue Heeler Mix | 10 lbs Audie’s second chance is just beginning, and she’s making the most of every moment. Rescued from a cage at an outdoor swap n shop, this sweet little girl is quickly showing everyone what an incredible companion she’s going to be. Audie is exactly what you’d expect from a young Heeler—smart, eager to learn, and always ready for her next adventure. She’s already mastered “sit,” is walking beautifully on a leash, knows her crate is her safe space, and is making outstanding progress with potty training. At just 3 months old, she’s already about 80% potty trained using both potty pads and outdoor trips. One thing that surprises everyone? How incredibly affectionate she is. After she’s finished exploring or playing, Audie loves nothing more than climbing into your lap for cuddles. She’s the perfect combination of adventurous and affectionate. As she grows, Audie will need an active family that understands the needs of a working breed. Daily exercise, training, enrichment, and continued socialization will help her grow into an amazing adult dog. She does well with children, though her natural herding instincts mean young kids should always be supervised while she continues learning. Audie is looking for a family ready to invest in a lifetime of adventures, learning, and unconditional love. In return, she’ll give you one incredibly loyal best friend. 🐾 ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt. Story
Meet Lola 🖤🐾 Lola is a one-year-old Lab mix with a big personality, a bigger heart, and energy for days. At around 55–60 pounds, she’s still very much a playful puppy who is learning the ropes—and she’s looking for an active home ready to help her grow into her best self. Lola is incredibly affectionate and people-loving. She thrives on attention and connection, and at the end of the day, her favorite place is curled up next to her person enjoying some well-earned snuggles. She’s also very smart and highly treat-motivated, making her a great candidate for continued training. She loves learning and is eager to please. She already has a great foundation: * 🐾 Crate trained * 🐾 Potty trained * 🐾 Walks well on a leash (though she may get excited and pull at first!) Lola is currently working hard on learning appropriate boundaries with other dogs, and we’re hopeful that with continued training and slow, patient introductions, she may one day be able to enjoy canine companionship. For now, we’re still learning what works best for her. Like many young, active dogs, Lola can get into mischief if she’s bored. Structure, enrichment, and plenty of appropriate outlets help her thrive. She absolutely loves water, playing fetch, toys, brain games, and anything that keeps her mind and body busy. An active family who enjoys getting out and having fun will be right up her alley. One important note: Lola is a fence jumper and can clear a 6-foot fence, so she’ll need supervised outdoor time or another secure setup to keep her safe. Lola may still have a few puppy quirks, but underneath all that enthusiasm is a loving, loyal dog who just wants to be close to her people. With patience, consistency, and love, she’s going to make an incredible companion. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate dog who will keep you active, make you laugh, and happily snuggle up with you at the end of the day, Lola is ready to meet you. 💙 ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt.
