Story
Espresso is a small mixed-breed dog with a deeply complex and heartbreaking background. Her mother has been DNA tested as 53% Boston Terrier, 30% Chihuahua, and 12% Miniature Pinscher, and her reported father is a merle French Bulldog/Chihuahua mix, giving Espresso a strong small-breed genetic foundation. Born approximately October 2022, Espresso’s early life was marked by neglect and repeated trauma. She was bred during her very first heat cycle to her own father and lived in a junk yard environment before rescue. In that setting, she was never allowed indoors, never treated as part of a family, and never given the comfort or safety a young dog should know. Prior to rescue, she never had a dog bowl to eat from, only ate off the floor from dumped food on the ground. Despite this, Espresso remained gentle and soft-natured. She was later brought into rescue in a critical condition, heavily pregnant and parvovirus positive. She became a parvo survivor in October 2023, overcoming a life-threatening illness that required intensive, round-the-clock medical care. Her survival was part of a much larger rescue effort involving her entire family line, many of whom were also medically fragile and a sibling who was parvo positive. With constant, round-the-clock care required to save them, her family group was given coffee-themed names Espresso’s temperament reflects both her past and her resilience. She is shy and reserved, especially in unfamiliar environments. She does not like being picked up or heavily handled unless she chooses to approach and initiate contact. What she offers instead is something quieter and more subtle; trust that is earned slowly, and connection that is steady once it is built. She is not a high-affection or “velcro” dog, and she should not be expected to become one. Espresso is an independent, sensitive soul who bonds in her own way and at her own pace. She thrives in calm environments with structure, patience, and predictability, and she gains confidence significantly from the presence of other friendly dogs. In a home with canine companions, Espresso truly comes alive in her own gentle way, running and playing with other dogs, observing her surroundings, and eventually settling in close proximity to her another canine companion. Once she feels safe, she often chooses to quietly sleep at the foot of the human bed, simply happy to be near without pressure or expectation. She was previously adopted by someone who cared deeply and invested in her well-being, but ultimately misunderstood her nature and wanted a dog she could pick up and kiss and carry around etc.. Efforts to change her reserved personality through excessive handling and anxiety medication did not align with what Espresso actually needed. She is not a dog who needs to be fixed....she is a dog who needs to be understood. Espresso is house-trained, gentle, and inherently sweet. She will do best in a calm, patient home that understands shy dogs and is willing to let trust develop naturally over time without force. She is an ideal match for adopters with other social dogs and a compassionate heart for letting a quiet, overlooked dog finally feel safe. If you think you can give Espresso the stability she needs, please do submit an adoption application. We would love to hear from you!

Story
Meet Molly – A Sweet, Silly Boston Looking for Love Molly is a 10-year-old Boston Terrier with a big heart and an even bigger personality. After losing the only home she ever knew due to her owner’s serious medical issues, Molly is now in a foster home where she’s showing everyone just how special she is. At about 26 pounds (with a little extra fluff we’re working on!), Molly is a surprisingly playful and energetic senior. She absolutely loves tennis balls, enjoys a good game of tug-of-war with rope toys, and happily shakes squeaky toys like any Boston worth her salt. She’s goofy, affectionate, and loves nothing more than tummy rubs and sitting in a cozy lap—especially if it belongs to her foster dad. Molly also enjoys her walks and trots along like a champ—even in the rain! She can be a little slow and stubborn when it’s time to head home, but that just adds to her charm. Around the house she’s a loyal little shadow, happily following her people from room to room before heading into her crate for a nap (where she snores like a pro). Because of mild cataracts, Molly occasionally has trouble spotting a tossed tennis ball, but that doesn’t stop her from trying. She also has dry eye in one eye, which requires daily lubrication to keep her comfortable. Molly had ear infections when she arrived, but they are being treated and improving nicely. Molly is doing well learning the routine in her foster home. She eats well, loves freeze-dried beef liver treats, and now does her business outside. She’s also incredibly regular—her foster family jokes she could set a clock by her! While Molly is wonderful with people and enjoys meeting new friends, she can be reactive around other dogs, especially on walks. For that reason, she would likely do best as the only dog in the home with an owner who can help her feel safe and relaxed. Despite all the changes she’s been through, Molly remains incredibly trusting, loving, and resilient. She has a few calluses from her previous life and carries the signs of a dog who may not have always had the softest landing—but her spirit is bright, and she is ready to love her people with everything she’s got. Molly is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and ready to start her next chapter. If you’re looking for a funny, affectionate companion who still has plenty of playful energy but also appreciates a good nap, Molly might just be your girl. Story
Meet Buddy & Obi — Two Sweet Brothers Looking for Their Forever Home Buddy (Brown and White) and Obi (Black and White) are a pair of 4-year-old littermates whose lives turned upside down last June when they were left at the shelter by owners who said they no longer had time for them. But these boys never stopped loving, trusting, or trying — and now they’re ready for the loving home they’ve always deserved. Both Buddy and Obi are vision-impaired, but don’t let that fool you — they get around wonderfully and have adapted with resilience, courage, and a whole lot of heart. Obi’s Story When Obi arrived at the shelter, he was heartbreakingly underweight. His former owners reported he’d been losing weight for six months — without ever receiving medical care. Boston Buddies immediately stepped in, got him to a veterinary internist, and ran bloodwork and an ultrasound. Obi was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) and Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE). The vet recommended starting with a prescription hydrolyzed diet — and it worked like magic. Obi has thrived. He’s gained weight – he now weighs 29 lbs. which is MORE than Buddy who weighs in at 27 lbs.- , filled out beautifully, and is finally healthy and comfortable. He will need to remain on this special diet, but it’s truly been life-changing for him. Both boys eat the same diet to keep things simple (and to prevent Obi from sneaking Buddy’s food — trust us, he would!). Obi now has energy, softness to his body, and no more hip bones sticking out. His foster family has done wonders, and he’s ready for the next chapter. Their Personalities These boys are truly the sweetest. They adore people — especially kids — and warm up quickly. They love to wrestle, play, snuggle, and explore. Despite their vision challenges, they adjust to new spaces surprisingly well. They’re potty trained, use a doggy door independently, and are very food-motivated (Obi might just be the fastest eater on planet Earth). Their vision impairment does mean they can be startled by loud noises like trash trucks, leaf blowers, or loud cars. When scared, they may freeze or sit down, especially Buddy. Walks are still one of their favorite activities — they just need a patient, understanding human to reassure them. A home without stairs is best, as they can manage a few with guidance but not independently. When meeting new people, they can get excited and a bit jumpy — not out of rudeness, but because they’re trying to “feel out” who’s there when they can’t fully see. A Little About Each Boy Obi • goofy, carefree, and slightly clumsy • loves being outside • professional grass roller • navigates the world beautifully with his nose • vision is more impaired than Buddy’s • bumps into things sometimes — but just shakes it off and keeps going Think of Obi as the goofy, lovable teen brother who always keeps things light. Buddy • loves toys and bones • insists on peeing on every tree during walks • your punctual “meal time” reminder • more cautious and thoughtful • sometimes has anxiety-related accidents, but they’re infrequent and come in phases Buddy is the charming, slightly grumpy “old man” of the duo — even though he’s only 4. Most important of all: Buddy and Obi are deeply bonded. They find comfort, confidence, and joy in each other, so they must be adopted together. They are ready for a calm, loving home that understands their needs, celebrates their quirks, and cherishes them as they deserve. Story
Meet Speedy – The Sweet Old Soul Looking for His Final Forever Home Speedy landed at the Lancaster Shelter on December 15, 2025. We all know a shelter is no place for a 13-year-old dog, and during the holidays, it’s especially heartbreaking. Our friends at Boston Buddies couldn’t bear to let him hang his stocking at the shelter, so we pulled him right away and got him into a loving foster home as soon as possible. When Speedy arrived, he was battling an upper respiratory infection, but with antibiotics and TLC, he made a full recovery. Once he was strong enough, he had an eye enucleation and full dental, and after his “glow-up,” this gentle boy truly came alive. Speedy is what we lovingly call a gentle giant — a larger Boston Terrier at 27 pounds with an even bigger heart. He’s a total sweetheart: submissive, mellow, and a little cautious in new situations. Despite his name, Speedy prefers to take life nice and slow. He’s fully house-trained (uses the doggie door), neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and has tested negative for heartworm and fecal parasites. He’s the perfect gentleman: • Great on leash • Friendly with other dogs • Quiet — never barks unnecessarily • Doesn’t chew, dig, or jump on furniture • Excellent car companion At night, Speedy sleeps contentedly in his dog bed right beside his foster mom’s bed. He wears a diaper overnight, and each morning, his foster mom gently carries him downstairs for his morning potty break. Speedy loves people and affection — he’ll gladly soak up attention from anyone who offers it. After all he’s been through, he still radiates love and sweetness. If you’re looking to make 2026 your best year yet, add a little Speedy to your family — you won’t regret it! Story
Meet Moe — Your Future Furry Best Friend! Moe is a 7-year-old, 21-lb. sweetheart who was rescued from the Downey Shelter just before he ran out of time. Initially listed as a French Bulldog, we think he’s a Boston… or maybe a Frenchton! Either way, those perky ears and his gorgeous brindle coat make him impossible to ignore — he’s basically a little tiger in fur form. After patiently waiting in the shelter for someone to notice his charm, Moe found a loving foster home where he’s thriving. He’s housebroken, knows how to sit, has a great appetite, and loves his toys. Moe is full of energy and would shine in a home with a yard, but he’s also a total cuddle bug — he naps and sleeps snuggled up with his foster parent and loves being near his humans. Moe is affectionate, playful, and ready to start his next chapter with a forever family. Whether as a playful companion or a lap snuggler, Moe will bring endless joy, love, and laughter to your home. ✨ Could you open your heart and home to Moe? ✨ Adoption Fee $350         May 8, 2026, 12:01 am

Story
Meet Delilah, aka "Cocoa Beanie," the curious 2-3 year old and playful pup who's ready to adventure into your heart and home! This brave and funny girl is always up for a good time, whether it's exploring new trails, chasing after toys, or cuddling up on the couch. With her affectionate and friendly nature, she'll quickly become your best friend and loyal companion. Delilah is a smart cookie, too, always keeping you on your toes with her playful antics. She's a true athlete, full of energy and ready to take on the world. Delilah is sure to bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart. Could she be the doggy soulmate you have been waiting for? Delilah had a very rough start. She came into the Long Beach Shelter in January with two big hernias from having too many puppies. She was taken right from the shelter and received immediate care with a surgeon. She is better than ever and will not have any long lasting health issues as a result of her ordeal. Delilah truly loves being with her people and all her toys. She really soaks up the one-on-one attention and would do best as the only pet. She has so much love to give and has waited long enough for her people she can shower with loyalty, love and endless playful Frenchie antics. If you are interested in adopting Delilah, please contact Hug Hearts Foundation at kissesandpawsinc@gmail.com for more information. You will not be disappointed with this amazing girl!
