Story
Meet Iris: A One-of-a-Kind Survivor Looking for Her Forever Home Back in February, the San Diego Humane Society took in a skinny little Boston Terrier in desperate need of help. Estimated to be around 8 years old, she was fragile, hurting, and in rough shape. The shelter staff lovingly named her Iris, and they did far more than most shelters are able to. They removed her bulging eye, spayed her, removed mammary masses, microchipped her, and brought her up to date on all her vaccinations. But Iris needed even more care—care that required a specialist. You see, Iris became our third dog this year needing a total ear canal ablation (TECA) due to years of untreated, painful ear infections. Her ears were so damaged that both needed surgical removal of the canals. Once she recovered from her initial surgeries, we took her to Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH), where specialists scheduled her for TECA surgery on her left ear, which was in the worst condition. Her recovery, unfortunately, was anything but smooth. The infection in her ear was resistant to every antibiotic they tried. Her foster family made several trips back to the hospital, but despite everyone's best efforts, the infection wouldn’t clear. Eventually, her left ear had to be completely removed. With her left eye and left ear both gone, you might expect Iris to be crushed in spirit—but not this girl. Iris is a fighter. She is resilient, gentle, and full of love. Once she’d regained strength, the doctors moved forward with surgery on her right ear. The recovery this time was also challenging. She suffered from vestibular issues—her balance was off, her head tilted, and for a while, she couldn’t stand without falling or walking in circles. It took a week for her to start walking normally again. Then the stubborn infection returned, causing the sutures on her ear to reopen. Her ear had to be flushed and treated again. But Iris never gave up—and neither did we. After more than a month of healing, her e-collar finally came off. She was so happy to be free from the “cone of shame.” Today, her balance is back, and she walks just fine—though her head still tilts slightly, which honestly just adds to her charm. Through all of this, Iris has remained nothing but sweet, patient, and loving. Despite everything she’s endured, she still responds to sound—her hearing is similar to what we experience underwater, and she picks up on vibrations. She’s currently in a loving foster home with other dogs, and she gets along wonderfully with her canine siblings. She’s doggie door trained, rides great in the car, and has no bad habits—no jumping on people or furniture, no chewing, and no digging. Our one-eyed, one-eared princess is truly a unique treasure. She has overcome more in a few months than most dogs do in a lifetime—and yet she continues to love with her whole heart. So now, Iris is ready for her next chapter. Could that be with you? Are you looking for a special companion with a story of resilience, strength, and endless love? Do you want to give a deserving dog the life of luxury, comfort, and affection she so richly deserves? Story
Meet Darling Dolores – A Royal Treasure Dolores came to us from the Inland Valley Humane Society, and she’s been charming hearts ever since. This dainty 14-pound diva may be small in size, but her personality is absolutely grand. At 10 years young, Dolores is a sassy senior with a few age-related quirks. She has corneal edema in both eyes, a grade 4/6 heart murmur, and luxating patellas. She’s already seen a cardiologist who confirmed that no heart medication is needed at this time, though regular monitoring is advised. The shelter gave her a dental, so her smile is radiant and her breath is fresh! Benign mammary masses were also successfully removed. When Dolores first arrived at her foster home, she was understandably nervous and needed some extra time to decompress. With patience and slow introductions, she now gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home. Dolores appreciates her personal space and carries herself like the true Queen she is—gracious but firm about her boundaries. She overcame a stubborn case of Giardia (twice!) and is now healthy and thriving. While her medical history might sound like a lot, don’t be deterred—Dolores is truly a delight. Once she warms up to you, she becomes a devoted and affectionate companion. Dolores is a true debutante with impeccable manners. She’s house-trained, uses the doggie door like a pro, rides beautifully in the car, and never jumps on people. Spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines, she’s ready to rule a new castle. Is your home fit for a Queen? If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and slightly regal lady to share your life with, visit www.bostonbuddies.org and fill out an adoption application. Story
** Current location: at a private shelter in South Korea ** Meet Moana👋🏻 She was found wandering the streets of Paju, South Korea in 2022. She ended up at a high-kill shelter but was thankfully rescued just in time. Since then, she’s been living in a private shelter with many other dogs, charming everyone with her affectionate personality. Now, she’s ready to find a forever family of her own! • Personality: Affectionate, Friendly, Goofy Moana is truly one of a kind. She quickly won the hearts of volunteers with her gentle, loving nature. She follows people around like a little shadow, happily greeting everyone—even strangers—with tail wags and affection. Moana thrives on human interaction and loves tug-of-war, belly rubs, and being the center of attention. Her energy level is moderate, making her a great balance of playful and calm. • Affinity with - Dogs: Moana is incredibly social—not just with people, but with dogs, too. She’s often the first to welcome new arrivals at the shelter, helping them feel safe and at ease. While she would thrive as the only dog in the home, Moana also does best with calm dog companions. - Cats: Not tested with cats - Adults/Kids: Great with adults / She hasn’t been tested with cats or kids, but based on her gentle demeanor, we believe she’d do well with respectful children. • Walking Manners: Moana has also started practicing her leash skills and is doing great! She may pull a little at times, but overall, she walks well and is eager to please. • Housetrained: As she’s lived in a shelter, Moana will need some house-training in a home setting. • Bathing/Brushing: She’s tolerant of baths and grooming. • Car Sickness: She’s curious and alert during car rides, taking in the world around her. • Separation Anxiety: Zero. • Barks/Howls: Very quiet • Appetite/Food Allergies: Eats well. No food allergies found so far. • Shedding level (1~10): 5 • Likes/Dislikes: She loves affection & treats! • Health: Moana finished her heartworm treatment in Oct 2024 and is in great health. She underwent successful surgery for an inguinal hernia in Mar 2025 and has fully recovered. She has a clean bill of health and is ready for her new adventure! (Her two front bottom teeth are missing)

Story
Hi, I’m Little Boy—a big-hearted pup with a growing love for life. When I was just 3 months old, I was passed from one home to another before Forte took me in. I didn’t even know what toys were back then, but the first time they gave me some, I played like I’d just discovered magic. I still love my toys, but now I’ve grown into a strong, playful young guy who’s ready for a forever home that can keep up with me. I’m about 8 months old now and already 50 pounds—so I’ll be a solid, medium-to-large companion. I have lots of energy and would thrive with someone who enjoys playtime, walks, and maybe even another dog to wrestle or cuddle with. I’m also super affectionate, and when I get one-on-one attention, I can be pretty calm and cuddly too. If you’re looking for a loyal, goofy, and loving buddy who’s past the tiny puppy stage but still full of youthful fun, come meet me. I’ve been waiting for a real home—and I just might be your perfect match. If you are interested in meeting Little Boy, please download the Adoption Questionnaire, fill it out and email it back to us at info@farescue.org or fax (310) 362-0321. You can also meet this and/or other available dogs at our weekend adoptions. [Little Boy is about 8 months old and weighs 50 lbs.] (2502)
