Meet Ian – Your Slightly Wonky, Totally Wonderful Adventure Buddy If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain… Ian might just be your perfect match. This little Boston Terrier mix lives life full throttle—zooming through the yard like he’s racing in the Indy 500, making pit stops in imaginary swamps with Shrek, and embracing every muddy, joy-filled moment along the way (bonus points if you don’t mind getting a little dirty with him). Ian is a young, playful pup with a heart as big as his personality. He came into rescue with a shattered hip that has since healed, leaving him with an adorable “wonky” gait. When he runs, his back leg sometimes flails out to the side—but it doesn’t slow him down one bit. If anything, it just makes him even more unforgettable. Personality & Play Style: Ian is a social, toy-loving goofball who thrives on fun. He always has a toy in his mouth—seriously, always. He’ll take them outside, bring them back in, and politely “check” them at the door until you hand them back. He loves playing with other dogs, especially games of chase and keep-away. After playtime, Ian enjoys winding down with his favorite toy and appreciates a little personal space during his chill time. Because of this, he’d do best with a laid-back, respectful dog companion—especially one around his size or slightly smaller who won’t bother him when he’s relaxing. Snuggles Included: Once the zoomies are out, Ian is all about couch time. He’ll curl up beside you, toy in tow, and drift off while you watch TV. The perfect mix of playful and snuggly. Communication Style (aka his signature move): Ian has the best voice—a raspy, screechy, baby pterodactyl sound that he proudly uses to let you know when he’s ready to come out of his crate or needs a potty break. It’s hilarious, endearing, and very effective. He’ll also quietly go sit by the door, so keep an eye out—he’s a good boy who just needs you to notice his polite signals. Mealtime & Care: Ian is an enthusiastic foodie, so he uses a slow feeder bowl to keep mealtime safe and comfortable. Medical Transparency: Due to his past injury, Ian has diabetes insipidus. The good news: • No injections required • Managed with oral medication twice daily • Just needs a few extra potty breaks His condition is well-managed, and he’s living a happy, active, zoomie-filled life. Alfie is at our shelter. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet him during open hours! Scroll through his photos to see his adorable video content! Alfie originally came to Heartland from one of our rescue partners in Garland, Texas. He was fostered by one of our staff members and lived with her family and her 3 dogs until he was adopted in October. Unfortunately, his adopter's health began to decline with age and he is no longer able to care for Alfie, so he's made the difficult decision to return him to us. Alfie's adopter filled out a bio form for us, and if anything, this dog is consistent! It doesn't sound like he's changed at all since he was in his foster home. Alfie is still the squat little wrecking ball we loved before! His adopter writes, "Alfie has lots of energy and loves to play. During TV time in the evenings, he snuggles and likes to sit on your lap. During walks, he enjoys sniffing the grass and otherwise checks in regularly, looking for treats for good behavior. While he's home alone, he has free reign in the basement den, where he chills out on a blanket, or plays with his toys. He is totally housebroken. Car rides are great fun for him, panting as he likes looking out the window. What's more, he's smart, trained, and lovable.". Alfie enthusiastically greets all humans as if he's known them his whole life. He also LOVES to play — and when we say play, we mean full-contact wrestling, dramatic chase scenes, and chaotic backyard WWE matches with his dog friends. He would thrive with another playful dog who enjoys roughhousing and can match his goofy energy level. He’s not trying to start trouble, he just thinks every day is recess. We paired him with other rowdy players at Heartland and they had the absolute best time together! If your current dog needs a gym buddy or your house is missing a goofball snuggle buddy, Alfie is ready to help. Alfie’s adoption fee is $300. He is neutered and is up to date on core vaccines. Alfie was previously treated for Heartworm disease with us, completing his treatment in December of 2025. Heartworm is a mosquito-borne disease and is not contagious to others. Per American Heartworm Society guidelines, he will need a retest in September 2026, to be done at the adopter's vet.
