Story
Meet Huey (ACCT-A-252907)! This sweet boy is looking for a patient and loving home where he can truly blossom. Huey is a big fan of the simple things in life—especially snacks! He is highly food-motivated and will do just about anything for a bit of cheese or a hot dog. He already knows how to "sit" and is eager to keep learning if treats are involved. While Huey can be a bit shy in new situations, once he feels safe, his affectionate side really shines. He has been known to lean into his human friends for pets and might even give you a gentle jump-up to say hello. In the yard, he shows off his wiggly personality, soft eyes, and happy tail wags. Huey is looking for a family that understands he needs a little time to feel comfortable, but the reward is a loyal companion who loves to show you his belly for rubs. If you are looking for a sensitive soul with a heart of gold (and a serious love for cheese), Huey could be the perfect match for you! 📽️ VIDEOS: Huey and Jax Meet: https://youtu.be/Wxqgvt3bWeA?si=oc--R7oKEUgd_RFx Huey and Dezzie Meet: https://youtu.be/fPIEfVs0I-s?si=KWDMTkp8VnAFG5aE ⭐ BEHAVIOR: Walksheet notes: Huey was walked on 6/15, 6/19 and twice on 6/20. On 6/15 he had mild issues out of the kennel, and was mildly shy and jumpy with medium energy. Handler wrote “treat lore to leash. Took a few minutes to open up. Loves hot dogs and chase. Conflicted with handling at times. On 6/19 had no general issues through the kennel. He had mild issues being shy and jumpy, medium energy. Handler wrote “Huey is a love big! No issues at all, slight pulling while on walk. Love him so much” Per volunteer 6/20/2026: He was very excited in his kennel and came out without issue. Very good boy who seems to be coming out of his shell! Per staff 6/20/2026: Took Huey out for a dog meet - approaching the kennel he jumped up on the door so I tossed some treats on the ground so he had 4 paws on the floor and quickly looped him up. He walked right out of the kennel with me. Walking outside he did pull a bit however was not difficult to walk. During the dog meet he was excited at the fence, running and pouncing back and forth. When we met in the pen he pulled toward the other dog excitedly, but would easily walk the other direction if I started walking away with him. I fed him some treats so we could let the other dog sniff him without him coming on so strong, and he did not have any reaction and allowed the sniffing. Once he loosened up on the leash a bit we introduced them closer and they began play bowing to each other in a light, bouncy and loose way, then would walk away and come back. On the return he pulled a bit but walked right into his kennel with no coaxing. Per staff 6/20/2026 dog meet notes: Came on strong, curious, looser and friendly and less intense after he got to sniff her 06/17/2026 per staff: When grabbing for surgery, nurse said Huey was in the back of his kennel fearful, wide eyes they made a large loop with their leash and let Huey come to them and was able to leash him and bring to surgery. 06/16/2026 per staff: He was laying on my his bed when I approached, came to the front with soft eyes, ears back, loose body and mid tail wags. Took the treats I offered gently. Able to leash with a treat lure of hotdogs through the leash. Once leashed came right out and walked pulling mildly. In the yard he was leaning into me and gently jumping up on me with soft eyes, ears back, mid tail wags, loose body. He met Jax through the fence, tail high and still, tense body, low growling, able to be moved away. We did a walk along, tail low, moving away. After a lap around the lot, Jax was able to come up and sniff, Huey walked faster to move away, ears back, wider eyes, tail low, lip licked. When presented the opportunity to sniff Jax, he moved away, tail low, ears back. Walking back, he tried to go up to multiple staff members we passed with mid wagging tail, soft eyes, loose body. Stopped outside his kennel, wider eyes, ears back, pulled back on leash. Needed some leash pressure to go in. 06/16/2026 per staff: An ACA was not able to bring out to playgroup, noted that Huey was whale eyeing, tense body and lunged at their hand when trying to leash. A separate ACA attempted to get Huey out later in the day and noted that he was tense and whale eyeing when they attempted to leash. Leveling up to exp blue 06/15/2026 per staff behavioral eval: Kennel Presentation: Laying on his bed curled up, ears back, tail low. Ate the treats I offered. Leash Skills: Slowly came to the front for treats, ears back, wider soft eyes, ears back. Took treats gently. Was able to leash with a treat lure. Once leashed came out and walked pulling mildly, tail low, ears back. Outside went to he bathroom right away, pulled moderately, mid tail, eras back. Sociability: In the yard, would come over with soft eyes, ears back, mid tail and jump up on me then jump down with ears back, low tail, tenser body. Eating hot dogs on and off outside. In the intake room waiting to be checked in, started to loosen up, mid tail wags, ears back, softer eyes at other times was stiff, low tail. Very food motivated inside, knows sit and loved cheese. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: Walked back tail low, ears back, pulling moderately. Stopped outside his kennel and pulled back on the leash, I tossed in treats and he did not go in for them. I clipped my leash and needed moderate leash pressure to go in, jumped up on the door as I was closing it, ears back, wider eyes. 06/15/2026 per staff: for intake exam and vaccines, he was tentative at times with stiff body, other times loose and wiggly- highly food motivated. unfazed for vaccines, no restraint needed while he licked cheese off the door. Tolerant of slowly being scanned for a chip (twice) and barrier placed on back. Quick Freeze then head whip for microchip did not continue with that. Overall he did really well! 06/14/2026 per staff: this dog is being started on behavior meds for FAS/ Huey 252907 bit control pole in the field. Medical coordinator Checked cageside (in kennel under dead ceiling light so couldn't see great) no blood seen, but apo said mouth was bleeding before. Low growling on bed. 06/14/2026 per staff: was able to take him out the van without issue , showed me his belly and was being submissive . was able to put him in kennel without any issues 06/14/2026 per staff: Upon approach, the dog was displaying submissive behavior. I used a calm, low voice while interacting with him, and he exposed his belly while wagging his tail. However, when I attempted to place a leash over his head, he lunged and bared his teeth. I then switched to a control stick, at which point he began attacking the stick. Once secured, the dog continuously struggled, alligator rolled, and actively fought restraint. I was eventually able to transfer him to a leash and suitcase him safely into the van ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Story
ABOUT POPOVER Looking for a snuggly girl? Meet our adorable 1-year-old Cane Corso mix, Popover! Sadly, Popover was abandoned on our property, so we don't know much about her past. Understandably, she was a little shy and hesitant to trust us at first, but has since opened up tremendously! Popover warms up to new people with a little patience and lots of praise, reminding her that everything is okay and no one is here to hurt her. Once she is comfortable, she transforms into the happiest, most goofy girl with her friends! Popover is super food-motivated and eager to learn, making it easy to build a loving bond with her. She loves zooming around our fenced fields, tossing toys around, and afternoon strolls. After some much needed playtime, this young lady is sure to melt in your lap for some snuggles and love! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Meet Luna Moon Luna Moon is a 10‑month‑old Presa Canario, weighing about 75 lbs and she is every bit as amazing as her name suggests. She was owner‑surrendered to ACCT Philly when her family no longer had the time for her, and once we met her, we knew we had to step in - she was simply too awesome to pass up. According to her previous family, Luna is sweet, energetic, and lived in a home with kids. In our care, she has been nothing short of wonderful. Luna is happy, wiggly, affectionate, and full of extra‑large puppy energy. She loves people, adores our volunteers, and is known for enthusiastically jumping up to give hugs (yes, we know—bad manners—but it’s hard not to smile at a good hug). Luna Moon is still very much a big puppy, learning how to navigate the world with her growing body and guardian‑breed instincts. She’s looking for a home with experience in guardian breed dogs, someone who can continue guiding her with structure, training, and love as she matures into the incredible dog she’s meant to be. If you’re ready for a joyful, powerful, affectionate young dog who brings enthusiasm and heart into everything she does, Luna Moon is ready to shine in her forever home. She will come spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and 4dx tested. She would need to meet any resident dogs. If you are serious about adoption, please fill out the adoption application on our website www.phoenixanimalrescue.com Her adoption fee is $500.
