On Feb 08, 2024, Beauty was found wandering all alone in Sweetwater, TN near the dump by a Good Samaritan who posted on Facebook in a lost and found group but no one came forward to claim her. :( Our animal control officer, reached out to us for help with this situation and connected us with the finder. At the time, the Monroe County shelter was over capacity and euthanizing on intake. When she arrived at woofwoof fosters it appeared something strange was going on with her eyes. Turns out, she had a condition called Entropion which caused her eyelashes/eyelids to grow inwards! We scheduled her for surgery ASAP as this can lead to blindness if left untreated! Beauty has since recovered from surgery and is now ready for adoption! We have dog tested Beauty at our dog trainers place in Athens, TN and found out that she is good with non-reactive dogs ( we have been pairing her up with non- reactive dogs at our rescue for play) .She would do best in a home without young children as she has a LOT of energy, young kids could unknowingly get in her way. She loves to run and play and will require mental stimulation in her new home as well as frequent physical stimulation. We think some simple scent trail training or possibly snuffle mats may help meet her needs as she has a curious snout! Her most favorite toy is a tennis ball! if you have two, that would be great or else you WILL go through ALOT of them because she will chew them up right away! We are teaching her to bring it and leave it and wait for us to toss her second ball. sometimes, we will work with her on just one ball....but that is a lot more work vs having a second one ready haha! Meet sweet Michaela (ACCT-A-237403)! This senior lady was surrendered to the shelter along with her sister, Bella (ACCT-A-237402), when their owner's health declined and he could no longer care for them. The owner recommended that Michaela and Bella stay together. Michaela is about 70lb and 9 years old. In the shelter, Michaela has been goofy and snuggly! She loves pets and attention and follows her sister around for comfort. She's had a good dog meet and, per her owner surrender notes, is "Great with children, good with strangers, okay with cats and dogs". She loves rope toys and treats and is already crate trained, housebroken, and knows some commands! Took a treat gently through the kennel. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and walk out through the adoption lobby. Minimal pulling, went to the bathroom when outside. Sociability: Social with handler, soliciting attention and allowing handling all over. In the volunteer office, she and her sister went from person to person asking for treats and pets. Michaela was not as jumpy as Bella, asking for treats more gently. She remained loose and wiggly, loving pets all over and leaning in. Play: N/A Dog Interaction: Very comfortable with her sister. Loose body and followed each other around. When Bella reacted to another dog from afar, Michaela seemed to follow her lead a bit (barking toward the dog), but her reaction was smaller (no hackles or pulling) and she calmed down more quickly. Return to Kennel: Stopped briefly outside of her kennel, walked right in with a treat scatter. Used a frisbee smeared with kibble and peanut butter to distract while we did a restrain free exam, vaccines and microchip. He was tolerant and very into the food. He would trade the frisbee for another treat when we would take breaks. Per staff 2/21/26: Best suited for a home with kids 16+ due to jumpy/mouthy behavior. Experienced adopters with large breed dogs and behaviors he is displaying along with the need for proper mental and physical stimulation. Younger kids ( 13+) may be considered depending on the situation. Per staff 2/21/26: Kennel Presentation: he was at the front of his kennel with big soft eyes, ears to the side and nub wagging which turned into his whole buttock wagging after giving him a treat. He took the treat gently. Leash Skills: hard to leash as he was trying to push past the door in an excitement manor. He's a big dog and pulls hard. Zig zagging through the kennels and outside. Will randomly pull in the direction he would like to go. It would be best to have him on a front clipping harness or better yet a freedom harness with a double leash for more control from the handler. Outside his nose was to the ground sniffing away. Body remained loose, with ears to the side and nub neutral. Sociability: very social boy who just has no idea he's 104 lbs. Croque would jump up (standing taller then 5ft on his hind legs) pawing at me or Dayna. He can get mouthy while it's gentle he hand my whole arm or hand in his mouth. Did bite at our treat pouches. food motivated and knows sit, however if you did not get it out fast enough then he became jumpy. Play: loved chasing after a big chuck it ball on a rope. Romping around with a tennis ball way too small for him. Will trade for treats. Dog Interaction: saw a small dog at a distance while walking in the yard, said small dog was barking at him and he just kept on sniffing. Met myrna through the bars with ears to the side, soft eyes and when they went nose to nose his nub started to wag. Return to Kennel: went right back into his kennel. Was a little difficult to unleash, used treats on the ground to removed the leash. Color Level: Exp Blue Recommendations and considerations: getting him on a harness to help with the pulling. Bring food with you as he is highly food motivated and ready to work. He's a giant puppy who needs routine and enrichment to work is mind! Per staff 2/21/26: Was at the back of kennel when I walked by but then came to the front. Was quiet and sniffed my hand. I went to go get treat and he was back on the far aide of his kennel laying down. I walked around and he immediately sat up and gently took treats through the kennel. Per staff 2/20/26: TTA setting to eval.
