Story
Lucy (ACCT-A-244881) is a 5-year-old Cane Corso who was surrendered to ACCT Philly when her owner was no longer able to care for or walk her due to their own health issues. Despite the sudden change in her life, Lucy arrived at the shelter showing just how affectionate and people-oriented she can be. During intake she greeted staff with wagging tails and eagerly sought out pets and attention.
In her previous home, Lucy lived with adults, another dog, and a cat. Her former owner described her as a loving dog who enjoys being around children, gets along with other dogs, and even likes cats. She is reportedly housebroken, crate trained, and knows commands like “sit,” “come here,” and “lay down.” Lucy has a playful, energetic side and especially enjoys running outside, chasing birds, and playing with toys.
Since arriving at the shelter, Lucy has shown that she enjoys moments of activity, like short bursts of running after a ball in the yard, but the shelter environment can feel overwhelming for her at times. Volunteers note that while she can be a bit unsure in new spaces, she has also allowed gentle affection and scratches and has shown curiosity and playfulness during outings. Lucy may benefit from a patient adopter who can give her time to settle in and decompress while helping her regain confidence. With space to run, enrichment, and a loving home, Lucy has the potential to thrive.

⭐Behavioral Notes⭐
per volunteer 3/22: I took Lucy out for a walk yesterday, Sunday 3/22. Lucy stood by the door when I approached and allowed me to leash her with no issue. She was very calm and easy to walk. In fact, she didn't pull once even when other dogs passed. I took her into the run where she spent some of the time sniffing and exploring the area. The rest of the time, she followed me around. Whenever I sat, she would sit by me or lie down. Lucy always sat for treats and took them gently. She let me pet and scratch her all over. I had no problem returning Lucy to the kennel.
Per staff 3/20: When approaching kennel to take out for dog meet, Lucy was snoozing. Walks beautifully on leash and easily is returned/removed from kennel. Once outdoors, enjoyed sniff walk. Met with Fleet, neutral sniff exchange. Seems evident to have lived with dogs prior based on behavioral exchange in dog meet.
Per volunteer 3/13: Lucy hadn't been out in a couple days, so I wanted to give her some time outside. When I opened the kennel door shutter, my lease, she retreated to the backside of the kennel. She wasn't interested in any the treats I tossed and didn't come forward. I lowered the divider, stepped in and looped her to get her to come forward. She misjudged the step, so when she stepped down, she wobbled.
Lucy did not appear to be comfortable in the small yard. She was looking to exit.
She showed no interest in treats or toys.
She's supposed to be housetrained, but she didn't relieve herself. She just paced in the yard.
I took her back to her kennel, but returned a little later to take her out again. I had no issue leasing her this time, she came right to the front and allowed herself to be leashed.
We went to a larger yard, and she actually had small bursts playful running after a ball. And she did come to me a couple of times and allowed some scratches on her back.
She still wasn't comfortable and she pushes on the the gate to leave.
I had no issues returning to her kennel.
Playgroup Notes 3/11: Lip licking, stiff at the gate, avoidant, open mouth, panting, mid level tail, Fearful
