Story
Meet Biggie Smalls! At 133 pounds, Biggie Smalls—affectionately known as Chops by his previous owner—is a big boy with an even bigger heart. This gentle giant was found tied to a pole, but despite that, he’s remained incredibly loving, friendly, and eager to connect with people. His previous owner shared nothing but praise, describing him as a loyal companion who even went to work with him every day—talk about a best friend! 💛 Biggie is a sweet and social dog who thrives around people. He’s been around children and was described as “humble” with them, showing off his gentle and easygoing nature. He loves attention, allows all handling, and will happily lean into you for affection. He also knows some basic commands and enjoys engaging with his people—he even sat on cue when a toy squeaked! For such a big guy, Biggie has a playful side too! He enjoys time outside, sniffing, exploring, and even a little game of fetch (on his terms, of course!). He can be strong on leash, especially when something catches his interest, so he’ll need a confident handler who can comfortably manage his size and strength. Because of this, all household members will need to meet him prior to adoption, and adopters should be prepared to handle a large, powerful dog. Biggie has lived successfully with another dog before, though he may be a bit more reserved with some male dogs and would benefit from proper introductions. What he’s really looking for is a home that understands big dogs and is ready to give him the structure, guidance, and love he deserves. If you’re ready for a loyal, loving, larger-than-life companion, Biggie Smalls is ready to be your ride-or-die. Come meet this sweet giant and see just how special he is! Adopter must show that they can physical handle a dog of his size. Per staff 3/19/26: I called the previous owner yesterday for more information on how biggie was in the home. He had nothing but good things to say. Biggie would go to work with him everyday, has been around some children and called biggie humble around kids. His best friend was a micro bully, however the previous owner did note that he can be more standoffish with male dogs. Per staff 3/18/26 - Very sweet outside, pulls strongly especially when he wants to go somewhere. Played fetch for a little bit then lost interest. Per staff 3/16/26: Kennel Presentation: Standing in the back side of his kennel when I first approached. Came to the front with soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail wagging up and down. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of the kennel. (Double leashed due to his size) He pulls when he wants to go sniff/mark on something. Sociability: Allowed all handling and remained loose, soft eyes, ears to the side with mid tail wagging. He sat down when I squeaked a toy. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Giuseppe and Blakey. Forward body, hackles raised between shoulder blades and at base of tail. High stiff tail some low vocalizations. Was able to sniff and walk away. Return to Kennel: Brought him to surgery to be neutered Color Level: Blue - Must walk with two handlers Per staff 3/15/26: Picked up one stray/abandoned Cane Corso tied to pole Dog is very friendly and playful, soft eyes, mid tail wag,had knowledge of basic commands, jumped right into truck, will jump on you when playing. -- ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. Story
Lucy (ACCT-A-244881) is a 5-year-old Cane Corso who was surrendered to ACCT Philly when her owner was no longer able to care for or walk her due to their own health issues. Despite the sudden change in her life, Lucy arrived at the shelter showing just how affectionate and people-oriented she can be. During intake she greeted staff with wagging tails and eagerly sought out pets and attention. In her previous home, Lucy lived with adults, another dog, and a cat. Her former owner described her as a loving dog who enjoys being around children, gets along with other dogs, and even likes cats. She is reportedly housebroken, crate trained, and knows commands like “sit,” “come here,” and “lay down.” Lucy has a playful, energetic side and especially enjoys running outside, chasing birds, and playing with toys. Since arriving at the shelter, Lucy has shown that she enjoys moments of activity, like short bursts of running after a ball in the yard, but the shelter environment can feel overwhelming for her at times. Volunteers note that while she can be a bit unsure in new spaces, she has also allowed gentle affection and scratches and has shown curiosity and playfulness during outings. Lucy may benefit from a patient adopter who can give her time to settle in and decompress while helping her regain confidence. With space to run, enrichment, and a loving home, Lucy has the potential to thrive. 📽️Videos📽️ ▪️Meeting fleet: https://youtu.be/cfiNcKQ3grs?si=IblF1Tzv1nwiyJ-8 ▪️ Meeting Fleet pt.2 https://youtu.be/bEOc4sOS5Ws?si=l9dr1sohcf6FFaaI ▪️Lucy's short bursts of energy, running after the ball: https://youtube.com/shorts/rnxbA7A008U?si=FztS0K33kIrmBYh- ▪️Playgroup 3/11 Lucy, Daria: https://youtu.be/rS5dc_K4-X4?si=hGlRKkPkvmTxk3S2 ⭐Behavioral Notes⭐ per volunteer 3/22: I took Lucy out for a walk yesterday, Sunday 3/22. Lucy stood by the door when I approached and allowed me to leash her with no issue. She was very calm and easy to walk. In fact, she didn't pull once even when other dogs passed. I took her into the run where she spent some of the time sniffing and exploring the area. The rest of the time, she followed me around. Whenever I sat, she would sit by me or lie down. Lucy always sat for treats and took them gently. She let me pet and scratch her all over. I had no problem returning Lucy to the kennel. Per staff 3/20: When approaching kennel to take out for dog meet, Lucy was snoozing. Walks beautifully on leash and easily is returned/removed from kennel. Once outdoors, enjoyed sniff walk. Met with Fleet, neutral sniff exchange. Seems evident to have lived with dogs prior based on behavioral exchange in dog meet. Per volunteer 3/13: Lucy hadn't been out in a couple days, so I wanted to give her some time outside. When I opened the kennel door shutter, my lease, she retreated to the backside of the kennel. She wasn't interested in any the treats I tossed and didn't come forward. I lowered the divider, stepped in and looped her to get her to come forward. She misjudged the step, so when she stepped down, she wobbled. Lucy did not appear to be comfortable in the small yard. She was looking to exit. She showed no interest in treats or toys. She's supposed to be housetrained, but she didn't relieve herself. She just paced in the yard. I took her back to her kennel, but returned a little later to take her out again. I had no issue leasing her this time, she came right to the front and allowed herself to be leashed. We went to a larger yard, and she actually had small bursts playful running after a ball. And she did come to me a couple of times and allowed some scratches on her back. She still wasn't comfortable and she pushes on the the gate to leave. I had no issues returning to her kennel. Playgroup Notes 3/11: Lip licking, stiff at the gate, avoidant, open mouth, panting, mid level tail, Fearful 03/10/2026 per staff: She's very sweet. Was all wags during intake and was looking for pets and love from everyone ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. Saia was acquired from a New Jersey Breeder back in 2023. She’s currently 2 1/2yrs and full of life. New home definitely have to be able to fulfill the need of being snuggled by her. She’s a Velcro dog for the most part just need time and affection. Unfortunately due to unforeseen health issues with parents are making it impossible to keep her. Happy, loving, and well trained is what she is and loving home would be a perfect fit for her.
