Story
Hi, I think Zeus would be good with a male owner. Someone who can provide him with attention and daily walks . He is a great dog. He likes consistency and lots of affection. My husband brought him home as a puppy. He passed away suddenly two weeks after. The kids and I have tried to raise Zeus but we are all so busy.

Meet Emi 🖤 Emi is a beautiful one-year-old Cane Corso with a gentle heart who is still learning that the world can be a safe place. She’s very undersocialized and nervous with new people, so she’ll need a patient, experienced home that’s ready to help her grow and build confidence. With the right person by her side, Emi has so much love to give. 💛 A few things about her: • Very shy and cautious with strangers—she takes time to warm up and will need multiple visits to build trust • A total Velcro dog once she feels safe—she loves being close to her person 🐾 • Food motivated and eager to learn, which will be a huge help with training • Still learning leash skills and life skills as she gains confidence • Can be reactive on leash and will need a dedicated owner committed to continued training • Sweet, sensitive girl who bonds deeply with her people • Medium shedding and a large, powerful breed that needs an experienced household Emi may take a little extra time and patience, but for the right person, she will be an incredibly loyal and loving companion. If you’re willing to help guide her and show her the world isn’t so scary, Emi could become your most devoted best friend. 🐶💕 📍The Center for Animal Health and Welfare PA Kennel License #02941 1165 Island Park Rd, Easton, PA 18042

Story
** $35 in pledges to the rescue that pulls! ** Jobe ACCT-A-248402 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Jobe must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER, or ADOPTER by MONDAY, MAY 18TH at 10AM. Should Jobe's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Jobe came to ACCT Philly on April 22nd after being tied up and abandoned outside of another shelter. While he was a bit unsure at first, Jobe has been nothing short of a gentle giant throughout his stay. This big, handsome Cane Corso mix has won over just about every volunteer and staff member who has spent time with him, and it's easy to see why. He's calm, trainable, and genuinely affectionate — the kind of dog who will back up into you for butt scratches and nudge your hand the moment you stop petting him. He knows sit, paw, and down, walks nicely on leash with little to no pulling, and takes treats gently. In the yard, he's been playful and goofy — tossing toys for himself, chasing balls, and showing off his adorable underbite. He has done well in playgroup with other dogs and shown gentle curiosity during fence meets. He would do best in a home where any children are over the age of 10. Early in his stay Jobe showed some wariness around new people and handling, but he has opened up beautifully over time and staff have noted how tolerant and easy he is. Due to his length of stay, Jobe is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, experienced foster, or adopter. He came out of the kennel pulling slightly on the leash to get to the door, but as soon as he was able to relieve himself outside, the leash was entirely loose and he walked perfectly, staying directly next to me, occasionally checking in by making eye contact with soft eyes and relaxed body tension. He was responsive to being guided away while we passed another dog leaving the yard. Once in the yard, he explored on his own and then checked back in with me. He was interested in treats and took them gently and was able to do sit, stay and lay down. After he got a hold of a toy, his really goofy and playful side came out. This big guy went from a calm, chill guy to jumping around, throwing his toy up for himself to catch himself and being a goofy, playful boy (see videos). When we went to leave the yard, he did pull slightly to try and sniff a worked in another yard who was by the fence, but did come with some pressure on the leash. Walking back, we came across another dog heading out and he looked up to acknowledge the dog but maintained relaxed body language and continued moving without reacting. He will do great with people looking for a dog that can get very playful and energetic at times but has a chill demeanor generally and feels comfortable with a larger dog who is directable. Per volunteer 5/10: Low-medium energy. Knows sit, paw, and down. Gentle, extremely well behaved. Likes toys. A really, really good boy. Per volunteer 5/9: Low energy. Easiest to walk. So gentle and perfect. Just loves to snuggle. So trained. How is he not adopted yet! Per volunteer 5/9: The best gentle giant! This was my second time working with Jobe and he's truly a favorite. I intentionally tried to get him a little riled up to see how jumpy/rough he would be, and he got excited with a bit of jumping but nothing that would knock me over (I'm not all that much bigger than him). When I asked him to sit, he immediately stopped jumping and sat, waiting for a treat. Turns out he also knows paw and down! He's easy to leash, walk, and return, and he's so attentive to his handler with little to no pulling. He'll make a family so so happy! Per staff 5/8: A volunteer took Jobe out on Wednesday and raved about how much of a gentle giant he was. He also wondered why he wasn't a green dog because he was so easy and tolerant of all handling! Per staff 5/7: Low-medium energy. Super chill, calm boy. Likes chasing the ball. Per volunteer 5/6: Medium energy. Knows sit, shake, lay down. Sweet boy who will just sit by you and just receive affection easily. Chases and brings back balls and toys. Walks very easy. Per volunteer 5/4: Jobe is a big beautiful boy with a silvery coat. He responds well to voice commands and is easy on leash. He will back in for butt pets. Jobe takes treats really gently then drops them on the ground so he can inspect before eating, what a goofy boy. Per staff 5/4: Low-medium energy. Sweetest boy in the world. Didn't pull at all. Interested in playing with everyone. Per volunteer 5/3: Easy to leash, came right to the front. Walked nicely on the leash, no pulling. Yes, I handled the dog. Jobe would curl into me or nudge my hand whenever I stopped petting him. He sat at my side and loved his butt and neck scratches. Needed a little help going back into kennel (needed to take a step in or toss a treat in). Jobe play bowed for a moment and attempted a zoomie. He did a half zoomie and appeared to get tired. He would sometimes chase after balls. When he did chase, he would sniff them or briefly put it in his mouth. He then would go on and sniff around the run or return to me for pets or treats. Jobe always sat for treats and is very gentle taking them. He is very easy to walk. He mostly ignored dogs that we encountered on our walk. Per volunteer 5/1: Low energy. Perfect walking dog. Could have walked him without a leash. Per staff 4/29: Got called to help nurses get a PCR on Jobe. The nurses informed me that Jobe was snapping at the swab when it was near him. When the swab was not near him he was loose and playing with the nurses. I gave them some cheese to try and he was eating the cheese with a loose body, mid level tail. When the swab came closer to him he air snapped at it, wide eyes, ears back, low tail and retreated back then returned to a looser body, ears to the side, and mid tail wags. I had the nurse hold the swab out and gave him a piece of cheese. Then moved the swab slightly closer and gave him another piece of cheese. We repeated this and I would give him a piece of cheese and verbal praise when it got closer and when he looked at it and we were able to successfully get the PCR done. Per volunteer 4/28: Medium energy. Met 2 dogs, went well. Gentle giant. Cannot emphasize this enough. He's a sweetheart. Sniffs other dogs during fence meet and nothing more. Knows sit and other commands. We played fetch but only for a few minutes. He loves people and is easy to walk. Per volunteer 4/27: Sweet, gentle giant! He pulls a bit on leash, but is generally easy to handle, allows petting all over, and takes treats super nicely. He has the cutest underbite and got so goofy with a toy! Per volunteer 4/27:Kennel Presentation: Standing calmly at the front of his kennel with relaxed ears, soft body, and soft eyes. He took a treat nicely through the door Leash Skills: Easy to leash. Pulled moderately throughout the kennels to get outside, which subsided some once we were outside and he had used the bathroom. Sociability: Sweet, playful boy in the yard. He initially sniffed around, then began to approach for treats and to solicit attention. He allowed handling all over, took treats nicely (I stuck with an open palm due to previous notes of snatchiness), and knows sit Play: Enjoyed a stuffy, throwing it for himself and running after it. He allowed me to pick it up when he was nearby but not actively playing with it without signs of resource guarding Dog Interaction: Gently sniffed small dog Coal through the fence. Very interested in him, allowed me to pull him away after a bit Return to Kennel: Easily hopped in Color Level: Gold Per volunteer 4/27, playgroup: 4 water, 4 can. Ears to the side, high flagging tail at fence. Big bouncy moves, good play with Carlisle and Labello. Per volunteer 4/26: Medium energy. Opened up in the yard. Started playing and running around. Still a little cautious and alert. Per staff 4/26: Medium energy. Moderately mouthy and jumpy. Is a bit weird and doesn't like to be pet or your hands near him. He backs up/flinches. Walks well on leash though. Per canine massage therapist 4/26: When I met him yesterday Jobe was marked as rescue only for behavior but as of today he is available for adoption. He started out a little reserved but quickly showed me his goofy side. By the end of our session his tail was up in a happy way and he was relaxed and confident and his serious looking little face had some sparkle to it. He is a very sweet boy and even where he actually had some tight spots he just kind of looked around about it to see what was going on. He does know 'paw' which he offered without me asking (in a very enthusiastic way) as well as sit and down and probably other stuff or if he doesn't already know other stuff he could learn it very quickly because he is super smart. His eyes look kind of human so it could be a person in a dog suit which would explain it but on the off-chance that this is just a sweet young mastiffy type boy I think you should probably adopt him. He is about 4-5 years old and has the best bottom teefs. Per staff 4/25: Took Jobe out for a dog meet, laying down in his kennel, soft eyes, ears to the side. Took a treat very gently. Stood up after the treat and was easy to leash. Walked well and pulled mildly at times. Ears back, tail low. Once outside peed right away. Met Labello, tense body, ears back, low still tail. Sniffed then walked away. Would move away when Labello tried to approach. When attempting handling, head whipped with closed mouth and wide eyes then moved away. Came back and sniffed my hand with soft wide eyes, ears back and moved away. Walked back pulling mildly through the kennels, mid still tail, tense body. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily. Added good dog meet attribute, as it wasn't bad, however Jobe was avoidant and showing he is overwhelmed so his actual behavior is likely suppressed. Per volunteer 4/24: Low energy. Very relaxed. Took treats gently. Flinches if I moved too fast. Will give you his paw to shake. Per volunteer 4/23: Jobe was lying in his kennel with relaxed body language. I approached his kennel with my leash presented and he stood up to go out. Easily leashed and walked nicely through the hall to outside. Once outside he immediately peed. He took treats gently with an open palm method. I took Jobe to the large play yard with several volunteers present. He was cautious of new people and disinterested in interacting with anyone besides myself. No interest in squeaky toys. He knows sit and paw. Happily does both for treats. He sniffed another volunteer and moseyed along. He was easily returned to kennel by tossing a treat in and leash was removed without issue. Overall sweet shy boy! Per volunteer 4/22: Low energy. Allows handling but is a little unsure, go slow. Snatchy with treats and a little impatient. Per staff 4/22: Per staff at the other shelter, dog was giving them a problem, growled at them. However when the dog was waiting in the intake lobby I didn't see any concerning behaviors. Dog was neutral and sniffed around. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately.
