Meet Big Coco (ACCT-A-213613)! This beautiful brindle girl is a Mastiff x Cane Corso mix who ended up at ACCT when her owner passed away a few years ago and her new owner felt they could no longer care for her. She's understandably overwhelmed and afraid in the shelter, needing a little extra patience and TLC. However, she's also extremely food motivated and has allowed handling with lots of cream cheese as a reward! Big Coco's owner reported that's she's already housetrained, crate trained, and knows lots of commands. She loves kids and can be wary of strangers as a guard dog. Very energetic too! When I approached her kennel, she had a very loose and wiggly body and easily allowed me to leash. Leash Skills: She pulls quite a bit on leash and would recommend a harness for sure. On the way back from the yard she walked very nicely on leash. Sociability: In the play yard she like to get zoomies and was very uncoordinated with them- it was very cute! She is very handler oriented and took pets all over from me. She would jump up on me a few times to solicit pets, but it was very gentle. Showed some interest in trotting after the birds in the yard so may have some prey drive. Went to the photoshoot and was pretty jumpy on new handlers with a wagging tail and loose body. Showed us that she knows sit. Was a little fearful during photoshoot with a crouched body so we finished quickly. Play: Not too interested in toys that I saw Dog Interaction: nothing today Return to Kennel: Easily went back into kennel. Color Level: Giving blue due to pulling on leash and jumpiness Recommendations and considerations: Per staff 7/16/2026: Behavior escalated and air snapped at nurse when attempting to restrain for surgery. Can not use for food in that case. Per staff 7/15/2026: Helped get big coco checked in today. She was laying on the bed when i approached her kennel. She came right to the front with soft eyes, ears to the side and loose body. Easy to leash and came right out of the kennel. Loose wiggly body and zig zagging on the leash. Lured her on to the scale with food. Asked for a different leash that turns into a harness as she was pulling on the leash. Highly food motivated so we smeared cream cheese on the door and double leashes (one as a harness and a normal slip lead). Vet nurse was quick with vaccines/microchip and big coco did not even flinch while continuing to lick the cream cheese smear off the door. Remained loose and wiggly thought out the entire check in, soliciting attention from everyone in the room. Can be a little snatchy with treats. Retuned to kennel without hesitation and removed leash with hand. Per staff 7/14/2026: Called to dog intake to help check in Big Coco. She was heavy panting with wide/soft eyes. Food motivated however could not bear hug and the food did not distract long enough to get vaccinations in. She kept pulling hard and putting her self in the corner. Started on meds and will try again later. She is a true fan of the simple things in life: relaxing on the couch, enjoying a good bone, and settling in for a deep nap—complete with adorable snoring! After she gets a bath, keep an eye out for her signature move: the post-bath zoomies. She is a high-energy gal who loves to be outside and play. While Dynasty can be a bit shy in the loud shelter environment, her social side shines through once she feels safe. She has previously lived successfully with other dogs and is known to be friendly with her canine peers. At the meatball piece that landed near her. Leash Skills: When I opened the door eyes started to dart and she was trembling more. I talked to her in a baby voice and gently tossed my leash near her so she could sniff it which she did. Eyes were no longer darting and was avoiding eye contact. Would not move off her bed and needed to lasso. Flinched when the leash landed on her and lip licked. Needed a big pull on the leash to exit her kennel. Once out walked tail tightly tucked, wide eyes darting, tense body, head low. Stopped in the kennels, kept moving with some calling to her and leash pressure along with the second handler behind her. Outside pulled strongly towards the road, tail tucked, ears pinned back. Sociability: In the yard, tail low, ears pinned back, wide eyes, occasionally panting, lip licks and stress yawning. Went up to both me and the other hander to sniff, allowed some gentle handling on her neck, head and upper body. Made some soft direct eye contact with the other handler. When the other handler left to go and get a dog to meet her, started to pacing in the yard, keeping the length of the leash, wide eyes, heavier panting, tail tucked. Responded to me calling to her and stood still near me heavy panting, ears back, wide eyes, tail low. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Dante, tail low, allowed being sniffed, moved away on her own. Return to Kennel: Went to the surgery room instead of kennel, walked back pulling moderately, ears back, wide eyes, tail low. Color Level: Blue 07/16/2026 per staff: whale eye and tense laying on bed. handler used strong leash pressure to remove from kennel, then walked tentatively with eyes darting and unsure footing to the outside. Whale eye outside, tail pasted down, other fidget behaviors noted throughout like lip licks, yawns and head turns away. Approached me for social contact multiple times, made direct soft eye contact, prolonged at time so I asked her to be moved away in those moments and she moved away with gentle leash pressure from her handler. Flinchy when touched. Met Dante- tolerant, looser relatively speaking to him touching her than us touching her. Took into surgery, used double leash with two handlers to restrain, but it wasn't needed as she was unfazed, heavy panting, clearly stressed and very tolerant. Allowed me to touch her neck and head without flinching and adjust her collar so it was a bit looser. Heavy shedding, another indicator of high stress. 07/14/2026 per staff: TTA- giving time to settle. she is scared, whale eyes, tense body, exit searching, tried double leash but gets spooked when you touch her 07/14/2026 per staff: Dynasty was standing in the flex space with a low still nub, ears back, wide eyes. The handler let me know that she was flinching with every movement. I offered her some meatballs and hot dogs both of which she took the spit out. She sniffed me with the same body language. In the dog intake room she had ears back, low still tail, wide eyes, hypervigilant in the room. Turned down cheese, ate the peanut butter that was offered. When we attempted light handling her skin crawled, tight closed mouth, wide eyes and slowly tuned her head. We attempted some peanut butter on the door and a double leash for vaccines. She stopped eating the peanut butter when the nurse walked up to her from behind, tense body, low still tail, side eyeing. The nurse lightly touched her back and she turned her head, closed mouth, ears back, wide eyes, vocalized with a grumble. No longer eating peanut butter after that. Walked back to the kennels tail tucked, eyes darting, tenes body. Stopped once in kennels, kept moving with some leash pressure and calling. The handler let me know that she was growling once in the kennels. Stopped outside her kennel, the handler had to step in and I used my leash from behind to give her a little lift. Medical Notes: On 7/20/26, Dynasty was noted to still be showing a high level of FAS. Medical staff elected to continue with gabapentin and adding clonidine for five days and will reassess. Per intake exam on 7/14/26, Dynasty has slight yellow teeth but was otherwise in good condition. She was QAR (quiet, alert and responsive), timid, loves peanut butter, and takes treats gentle. Arya (ACCT-A-255601) is a sweet soul looking for a patient home where she can truly shine. She was surrendered along with her sister when her owner lost their housing. While the shelter environment has been a bit overwhelming for her, her previous family shares that she is the "sweetest thing in the world" once she feels safe and comfortable. Arya is a professional lounger who loves to jump up on the couch to relax with her favorite people and snore away! This clever girl is already housebroken and crate trained. She has a fun, playful side too; she loves being outside and is known to get the zoomies after she’s had a bath. If you’re looking for a way to her heart, look no further than some tasty treats, which she takes very gently. Arya has lived successfully with other dogs in the past. Because she can be a bit protective of her "castle" (her crate or home) and is currently feeling a little shy, she would do best in a home with children ages 13 and up who can give her the time she needs to acclimate. Took treats gently through the bars. Started giving low nub wags when talking in a baby voice about going out. Leash Skills: Tried to push out slightly then was easy to leash. Once leashed pancaked and urinated, got moving again with some calling to her, ears back, head low, body crouched, tail tucked. We went outside a quiet way, started to stand straighter on our way outside. Walked loose leash most of the time, outside occasionally pulled moderately. Sociability: In the yard came up to people when they crouched down with soft wide eyes, ears back, tail tucked. Defecated when her head was touched. Not eating at first. We walked around the yard a bit and with time tail untucked and was low, looser body, taking treats gently. Came over when someone sat down on the bench and rested her head on their legs, allowed all handling with soft wide eyes, ears back, looser body and a low looser tail. Would gently paw at legs when petting stopped. Play: No interest in the toys Dog Interaction: Met Pickles, mid tail, looser body moving away on her own. On the last greeting face to face higher tail, ears back, sniffed and moved away. Return to Kennel: Walked back loose leash, ears back, wide eyes. Pulled moderately when we got into the kennels, tail tucked, hopped right in and leash was removed easily. Color Level: Blue Recommendations and considerations: Per staff 07/16/2026: Tail pasted down, exit searching, didn’t eat meds, was eating hot dogs from hand, turning away constantly so unable to be leashed at this time.
