Story
Meet our staff favorite! Blackburn is a sleek and shiny 4-year-old black cat with a super sweet and friendly personality. He was adopted from AFRP as a kitten, and returned to our care when his guardian could no longer care for him. Originally from the Salinas Animal Shelter, Blackburn was bottle fed in foster care as a tiny kitten, and he's grown up to be a happy, affectionate and athletic adult. He enjoys playing tag and fetch, and he loves watching birds and squirrels from the windowsill. Blackburn loves people (unknown with dogs) and is a fabulous companion, but he is anxious around other cats so he will do best as a single cat in the home. His litter box habits are great as long as his person uses Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter and continues to keep him on Hill's Urinary Care C/D cat food. Blackburn he'll do best in an adult household or with kids over age 10. Blackburn is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our required online application.

Story
Violet is a sweet and gentle 16-year-old brown tabby that was adopted from AFRP as a kitten, and returned to our care when her guardian had to move to a senior living facility. Violet is a happy, affectionate, talkative and curious cat that will be a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a mellow feline friend. She is a wonderful lap cat and enjoys being near her person. She gets along with other friendly cats and might do okay with a gentle, respectful dog. Give Violet a soft blanket and gentle petting, and she is in kitty heaven! Violet is in good health though she does have a condition known as Chronic Feline Rhinitis. This common condition is likely due to a non-fatal virus she acquired as a kitten. This causes Violet to experience congestion, nasal discharge and sneezing. Potential adopters can rest assured that a cat with chronic rhinitis is safe to have alongside other cats. It's similar to humans having a common cold. It's unlikely to spread to other feline companions. With proper care and management, Violet can lead a happy life alongside her furry friends without posing a risk of making them sick. Scheduling appropriate veterinary check-ups and implementing hygiene practices will help ensure a harmonious and healthy environment for everyone. As a result, Violet's adopter will need to work closely with their veterinarian to monitor Violet's health and prescribe a course of treatment when necessary. Violet will come with low-cost wellness care through AFRP's clinic as a part of her adoption! Violet is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our required online application.

Story
Minerva, who prefers the less formal "Minnie, is a sweet and sensitive 4-year-old longhaired tortoiseshell looking for a very patient adopter with experience helping shy cats gain confidence. Minnie lost the only home she knew when her elderly guardian was moved to a residence that did not allow pets. She is doing her best to overcome this traumatic experience, but she is very slow to adjust to new new places and new people. It took 18 months in foster care before she was brave enough to sit on her foster mom's lap, but now lap time is part of her daily routine, and she enjoys her evening bonding time, purring with contentment. Once you have earned Minnie's trust, she's a gentle companion with excellent litter box manners, a healthy appetite and good grooming skills. A successful match for Minnie would include a quiet indoor-only household with no children. She would be happy as a single pet, or might do fine with a gentle cat or dog that did not expect her to play or interact. She feels most comfortable in small spaces and though she does enjoy a cat tree and a window view, she spends quite a bit of time in her cozy box hideaway. Minnie does not like to be picked up, and will likely always have to be mildly sedated before going to vet appointments. She takes a daily anti-anxiety medication, and she is on prescription wet food for urinary health. Shy cats need and deserve love too, and Minnie is looking for a special person that will give her the time and compassion she needs to adjust to a new forever home.

Story
Introducing Ziggy! A staff favorite here at AFRP, this handsome senior kitty is on the look-out for his new bachelor's pad. Ziggy was adopted from us back in 2011 and unfortunately found himself back in our care 11 years later when his owner could no longer keep him. Now a senior boy at 12 years old, Ziggy is a special little guy and he knows what he likes and what he doesn't like! When he returned to our care his entire world had turned upside down, but with all hands on deck, Ziggy came back out of his shell. This gentleman certainly has a type and prefers younger, adult owners (no children please!) that can respect his boundaries, he enjoys being the center of attention so a home where he is the only cat would be preferred by Ziggy. He loves playing "chase" with toys, is a cat-tower connoisseur, and enjoys watching the birds out of the window. A few things to note (remember when we said he knows what he likes and what he doesn't like?) : Ziggy can become overstimulated easily from petting, but has no problem letting you know when he would like to be pet! Be it a paw raise or a strong head-butt, he will come to you for love! It is crucial his future family can understand this and let Ziggy love them in his own, Ziggy way. Ziggy is on a special diet due to food allergies, this is something that he will have to remain on for the rest of his life. The good news? That doesn't slow Ziggy down! He LOVES his food and he loves his meal-times. If you're looking for an older guy, Ziggy is the one for you! Ziggy is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved.

Story
Sweet and playful Lisa is a 2-year-old mom cat ready for her second start. After being found in a plastic container with her legs tied (and a litter of nursing kittens), she is ready for a life of snuggles, scratches, and companionship. Lisa (with her big and beautiful eyes!) loves to play and will greet everyone she meets with a little kiss and nose boop. She is a more independent lady and prefers to give attention on her own terms. She would love a moderately experienced cat home with a patient adopter/family (children over 12) that will allow her to decompress, and explore on her own terms. Lisa needs to be the only cat in the home, but she would do well with a mellow, cat-savvy dog. Lisa is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for an online cat application. Story
Introducing George! This stunning orange and white kitty came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services with an old leg injury. Now, completely recovered this purr-ito is looking for his forever home! George has been with us since February of 2023, and he's ready to find his special family. This playful kitty loves to bat around his favorite toy, and would prefer if his foster spent all day everyday playing only with him! If he's not playing, George is happy to chow down on some snacks (very enthusiastically might we add). George would do best as the only pet in the home, but that just means all the more time and love between him and his special someone! He can become over-stimulated at times, but has made bounds of progress, this just means he's seeking an experienced owner who is able to go at his pace and respect the boundaries he sets in place. An adult adopter or families with children over the age of 15 would be best for George. George is currently in foster care and meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our online dog application.
