Story
Ashlyn is a chill, lovable, and spunky young cat who brings so much personality into a room. I rescued her from our local SPCA when she was just 6 weeks old, and she has grown into an affectionate companion who loves attention and being around people. In August 2025, when Ashlyn was 11 months old, she experienced her first seizures. She was rushed to the emergency hospital for overnight care, and since then she has been under ongoing veterinary and neurology supervision. After months of medication adjustments, bloodwork, and specialist visits, she most likely has epilepsy. Her neurologist has recommended MRI and spinal tap to rule out other causes, but unfortunately those costs are beyond what I can manage. Making this decision has been extremely difficult. As a full-time student working part-time, the financial responsibility of Ashlyn’s medical care has become more than I can sustain. I love her deeply, which is why I’m searching for a home where she can continue to thrive.

Story
Meet Lilly, the kitty! Lilly arrived at the Shelter after her guardian lost their housing. She did well with the three children in the home and when meeting strangers. Lilly has lived with a dog previously but had a change of heart about liking her. A home with a cat-savvy, mellow dog and a slow, thoughtful introduction could be appropriate. Lilly does have history of being indoor/outdoor and has been around chickens. A home as an indoor-outdoor cat may be appropriate after a slow, thoughtful introduction. She does have history of using the litterbox reliably in the previous home. Shew as described as a cat who likes affection on her own terms – being pet but not often enjoying being held. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Zoe, the sweet senior calico! Zoe arrived at the Shelter after her previous guardian was moving out of state and unable to bring her with. Zoe has been around young children in her previous home and would greet people with a “meow”. Zoe would be best in a home as the only cat as she is not a fan of the ones she has met in passing. She was indoors primarily in her previous home but may enjoy a catio set up where she can access the outdoors in a safe, enriching way. She used the litterbox reliably in her previous home. Zoe’s adoption fee is reduced by $20 thanks to Shelley’s Angels – a fund that draws adopter’s eyes towards often overlooked senior cats in Shelters.
