Story
Meet Kai, the gray and white bicolor cat! Kai came to the Shelter after their previous guardian was unable to continue caring for them. Kai would thrive in a home as the only feline as he has some big feelings about other kitties. Kai has been social with staff and volunteers since his arrival. Kai does have experience as an indoor-outdoor cat but will need management if he is in an area where there are other kitties that he would come in contact with. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Frankie, the medium haired pastel calico! Frankie came into the Shelter with two buds Nagini & Fenrir after their previous guardian had a baby who was fairly allergic to the cats. Although all three cats lived together, they are not required to be adopted together in their next home. Their previous guardian reports that Frankie lived with a newborn, 3 year old and 5 year old child and did well with them. Frankie was described as the most reserved, but still very sweet, of the trio. Our veterinary team has done an examination on Frankie and have observed that she does have some moderate dental calculus and gingivitis. With these conditions and being an older cat, Frankie would thrive with an adopter who will establish a relationship with a veterinarian shortly after adoption and be willing to take her in for more frequent health checks to keep her staying comfortable as she ages. Frankie`s adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to “Leave No One Behind fund” – designed to adopter’s eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelter’s care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. Meet Hermes, the senior brown tabby. Hermes came into the Shelter after their previous guardian was unable to care for him and gave him to a friend to help fin da good home. He has lived with other cats years ago and may do well with a feline friend who matches his lower energy, provided there is a slow, thoughtful introduction. Although Hermes was indoor/outdoor previously, an indoor home would be more appropriate for him as he is an older guy. Hermes may enjoy a catio set up or supervised time outdoors with his people during morning coffee. Hermes` adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous adopter! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Story
Meet Rin Tin, the black and white beefy boy! Rin Tin came into the Shelter in a feral trap and was initially reserved. Staff started to see some glimmers that this big boy was not feral but in fact, a scared boy. After a period of decompression, he has been enjoying pets all over his face, neck and back , making biscuits and eating treats. Rin Tin may take some time to transition to his new home and people but we anticipate that with time and patience, this guy will continue to show his true self. A home with another cat may be a fit after a slow, thoughtful introduction. After a period of acclimation, Rin Tin may acclimate to a home as an indoor/outdoor cat OR he may enjoy being an indoor house panther moving forward. Rin Tin`s adoption fee has been sponsored by a good samaritan! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. Story
Meet Lupita, the brown tabby. Lupita came into the Shelter as a stray. Staff have observed that although a little shy, she warms up and head butts hands for attention. Lupita is curious and watches the world go by but will come get her dose of attention when she is ready. She may do well in a home with other cats with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week!
