Meet our Catahoula mix babies of between 3 and 4 months.  All girls, they make a fine litter of happy and energetic puppies.  They love to play with each other as well as other dogs, kids, and even their foster’s cat.  These girls all wear short coats, but of different colors.  Sofia is gray with white; Sema is tan with white; Shalene is white with black (and a bit of tan) and Sadie is brown with white.  Some bear Catahoula markings while others’ faces are enchantingly wrinkled in Sharpei fashion.  Between 20 and 25 puppy pounds, they will each mature to about 60. What a delight these baby girls are!  (posted 2/3/24, TN)  **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption: $395 which covers quarantine, shots, worming, medical records, spaying/neutering, microchip and an Alabama State Health Certificate.   Transport, if needed  $160   We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip . Ethel is with our partner rescue in Louisiana but hoping to come to NJ on our next transport. We offer a foster to adopt trial for approved adopters. Ethel is described as calm and low key. Ethel gets along well with other dogs and she does well in her crate. Ethel LOVES treats. She also likes to Netflix and chill. She is house trained and good on the leash. Ethel is fixed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. She completed treatment for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $450.  Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. Meet Atlas. While his DNA is very rich in dog breeds (18 actually), his appearance is quite unique, with two breeds as the main standouts. His face and ear structure look mostly Pitbull, but his "glass eyes", height, thick body (about 65 lbs), and mottled coat are distinct characteristics of his distant Catahoula Leopard dog relatives. Atlas loves a good cuddle and is the best hugger. Although he can be a little stand-offish around strangers at first, he warms up quickly to people of all ages. He does well with children and with other dogs that do not have as dominant of a personality as his own. He loves hikes, exploring, runs/walks, chasing balls and frisbees, playing tug, and chewing on toys. He will dig from boredom if he is left alone outside for long periods of time without sufficient engagement. He knows a few commands but usually prefers to perform for treats. Atlas is an affectionate, active dog that needs an equally loving and active family to meet his emotional and physical needs. Meet BAM! Bam is now 2 years, 2 months old and 62 lbs. He was abandoned in McKenzie, TN at a rental property. HOW HORRID! He had much higher energy back in Feb 2023. But with an AMAZING, dedicated foster Mom...Bam has established a regular exercise routine and he has nicely smoothed out his energy now. Bam's 'thing' is his georgeous blue eyes. They look like jewels glistening at ya! I did the breed app check. And if shows mostly American Fox Hound with mix of Louisianna Catahoula Leopard. I'm going with it as his breed has had us puzzled. Bam is great with all the dogs in his foster home...of both genders, all ages, and various breeds. He is good on leash, rides well, crates & house trained. When dogs have to come back to the shelter it is incredibly heartbreaking.  Camo was adopted from us in 2019.  Due to family issues in the home, he has been returned through no fault of his own.  He is now almost 5 years old and wondering why he is here. His world has been turned upside down.   Camo is very friendly and smart!  He has loved everyone he's met here at the shelter.  Catahoula's make loyal companions.  They are working dogs, active and highly intelligent.  They have a gorgeous blue merle coat. He is a big boy and is sadly very overweight!  We have him on a healthy diet now and are giving him daily exercise.  We are looking for an active home that will make sure to keep up with a good exercise regimen and make sure those pounds come off so he can back to a healthy weight.  He Has lost 15lbs so far!!   Camo loved his big fenced yard in his previous home and enjoys running here in our fenced area so we are hopeful his new adopters will have the same so he can enjoy that as well.   Happiest as the only pet. Super smart!  Knows quite a few commands.  Loves to fetch the tennis ball.  100% housebroken.  *Per JSAC policy, puppies and kittens under 6 months will not be adopted to families with children under the age of 6 years.April 26, 2024, 8:35 am
