Story
Meet BAM! Bam is now 2 years, 2 months old and 62 lbs. He was abandoned in McKenzie, TN at a rental property. HOW HORRID! He had much higher energy back in Feb 2023. But with an AMAZING, dedicated foster Mom...Bam has established a regular exercise routine and he has nicely smoothed out his energy now. Bam's 'thing' is his georgeous blue eyes. They look like jewels glistening at ya! I did the breed app check. And if shows mostly American Fox Hound with mix of Louisianna Catahoula Leopard. I'm going with it as his breed has had us puzzled. Bam is great with all the dogs in his foster home...of both genders, all ages, and various breeds. He is good on leash, rides well, crates & house trained. We adore Dorie! This girl is the definition of loyal. She loves spending time with people and will lovingly follow wherever they go. Dorie also enjoys exploring and going on walks. After said adventures, she loves to curl up on the couch for a good nap :). She also enjoys spending time with dogs at the shelter as well! Dorie is working on her confidence and would love to find a companion that will support and reassure her in her growth! One way to Dorie's heart is through cheek and chin scratches, which are a favorite of hers. This angel is waiting to meet you at our Madison location, so don't wait another minute!

Story
Scone is a 2.5 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog. I adopted her in February but am unable to keep her due to relocation. She’s super sweet and cuddly. She is also always super happy when you come home (hope you like dog hugs). I currently also have 2 cats that she lives with and loves to play with as well. Sometimes she’ll chase the cats, but they let her know if it’s not okay and she backs off. Scone is also very friendly with people of all ages. She has been around kids, teens, and adults and is very caring. The only thing is she doesn’t seem to know how to control herself around other dogs. She does fine at doggy daycare but she exhibits leash aggression and also at the dog park. I would not recommend her to someone with a current dog. Other than that, she’s a love bug. She knows many commands, is fully potty trained, etc. So is scared of thunder and fireworks however, as a warning.

Story
Meet our Catahoula mix babies of between 7 and 8 months.  All girls, they make a fine litter of happy and energetic puppies.  They love to play with each other as well as other dogs, kids, and even their foster’s cat.  These girls all wear short coats, but of different colors.  Sofia is gray with white; Sema is tan with white; Shalene is white with black (and a bit of tan) and Sadie is brown with white.  Some bear Catahoula markings while others’ faces are enchantingly wrinkled in Sharpei fashion.  Between 20 and 25 puppy pounds, they will each mature to about 60. What a delight these baby girls are!  (posted 2/3/24, TN) (age updated 6/19/24) **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption/Transport:  $250.00June 22, 2024, 12:19 am

Story
Say "Aloha" to Bingo who came all the way from Hawaii to NJ! He's a sweet Catahoula mix pup that gets along great with all people and other dogs. Cats are an unknown. Bingo is happy & friendly with children. In his previous home, he lived with an 11 and 14 year old - he would give lots of kisses to the girls as they petted him. He's a very loving boy.  Bingo is 1 1/2 years old and a nice medium size at 36 pounds and has stunning coloring. Bingo enjoys going for walks or hikes and would make a good walking buddy. He is neutered, microchipped & up to date on his shots. He is also both house and crate trained (he is used to being crated when he is alone and slept in a crate in one of the children's bedrooms). If you'd like to make Bingo part of your "ohana" (family), please fill out an adoption application at www.ehrdogs.org and be sure to ask for him by name BINGO NJ! June 24, 2024, 6:47 am

Story
Berk is available for foster to adopt. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the subject line BERK  if you are interested.  BERK - Catahoula/Lab Mix, 8  months, 50lbs, Neutered, Expected to Be About 60lbs Full Grown  We cannot guarantee breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses, though! Please read everything below and submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org if this pup seems like a good fit for your family :) Home Recommendation Berk is adjusting to the city pretty well! He would do great with staying in the city but of course wouldn't say no to a home in the burbs. Puppies do best in homes that are ready to commit to their needs. Raising a puppy is lots of fun but we won’t beat around the bush: it’s also a lot of work. Puppies can be raised in the city or out of the city. They are very adaptable. Puppies need adopters that are full of energy themselves and can keep up with their new four legged best friend.  Level of Dog Ownership Experience Needed  BERK  is an Intermediate level puppy. This means that ideally the adopter has primary dog ownership of a breed or energy level similar to this pup. At a minimum the adopter should have solid experience doing things like dog sitting, or fostering young dogs or dogs of a similar breed. This means that if you've only dog sat, fostered or owned a senior dog or low energy breed then this isn't the right fit for you. Adopters should have some hands-on experience with taking care of puppies and/or teenagers. Adopters should be comfortable around working breed dogs. Adopters should be ready for everything that entails raising a puppy: lots of training, patience and socialization. All puppies have the potential to develop into the goodest boys and girls but it’s in the hands of the adopter. Lastly, adopters should truly understand that a puppy is going to go through many developmental phases. His Foster Mom Says: "Berk is a healthy and friendly 9-month old (~50lb) Catahoula mix. He has a distinct leopard coat and two different colored eyes. He LOVES taking walks and lounging outside, where he can pick up sticks and take in all the smells the city has to offer. He is super friendly with humans and dogs of all sizes. He typically gets 2 long walks and 2 short walks per day, but he usually wants to stay outside longer. He also seems interested with ponds/ the ocean and has semi-webbed paws so probably a good swimmer. He is a fast learner with commands and is eager to please, especially if you have treats!" Energy Level  Higher - - As an adult this pup will need a solid continuous 90 minute walk (at a minimum) in addition to potty breaks/relief walks/short walks. Working breed dogs were bred to do jobs so it’s super important to make sure that they get the right level of exercise and stimulation daily. Working breed dogs need more than just simply being “let out in the yard”.  So far his foster parent says that Berk is very fun outdoors but knows how to mellow out indoors.  Personality        Life of the Party - - Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello. Cuddle Factor Medium  - - Likes to snuggle when he is in the mood but will go back to his own space.  Potty Trained Yes -  Berk is having few or no accidents - knows to go outside and rings a bell when he needs to use the bathroom. Prefers to do his business on leaves mulch or grass.  Comfy With Strangers? Yes - - Puppies are super friendly with new people, they love to make friends. It’s super important to socialize puppies in a safe controlled environment.  Social With Children?  (ALWAYS requires supervision) Yes - - Puppies are okay for homes with respectful kids aged 6 and up. Puppies are not a good match for kids younger than 6 years old as puppies go through teething phases: which can be very intense and result in little kids getting hurt.  Social With Dogs? Yes - - Puppies have all the potential to be extremely social with other dogs. Socializing puppies with other puppies and adult dogs is a huge part of raising a puppy. It should be done in a safe and controlled environment: puppy classes and playdates with trusted dogs are a great way to do this.  Social With Cats? Yes - - Fun fact all puppies have the potential to be best friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to help set boundaries with the cat (like not being able to chase the cat). The cat should also be a friendly cat as a puppy is not a great idea for a grumpy cat.  Mouthy Play   Medium to Higher - - He sometimes will escalate to chewing hands during play time but hasn’t been too bad. He will try and eat pretty much anything - rugs, furniture, the floor lol. But he will listen to us and stop chewing if we present him a toy or bone. He is working on being fully crate trained so he can be left home alone. This is very common for his age. Berk does respond to correction.  Leash Manners Will Need to Learn This Skill - - Getting the hang of it! .Will be super important to work on leash manners from the get go. Many trainers recommend starting to train the command heel (best way to prevent pulling on the leash) from an early age.  Jumping Manners Will Need to Learn This Skill - - Puppies are prone to jumping up on people when they are excited. It’s important to work on this behavior from an early age. It’s cute when they are little but not so much when they are full grown. Good habits start early. Separation Anxiety Medium - -  Berk is learning how to be home alone. He doesn't cry when his people leave but he will settle down. On par for his age!  Crate Trained - - Getting used to his crate. Doing well with crate training.  Medical Status Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella Vaccine, and Rabies Vaccine.  How Did They End Up With Social Tees Animal Rescue? This pup was originally left anonymously at a high volume shelter in TN where they were at risk of euthanasia. Our rescue partner based down there pulled this dog, had the initial veterinary care done, and transported them to NYC. While in Social Tees care, they are kept in attentive and loving foster homes. Many dogs are rescued from the south because the pet overpopulation problem there is much worse than it is in the northern parts of the country. This seems to be because far fewer people are having their pets spayed/neutered in the south, the climate is warmer so animals are reproducing year round, and the human population in these areas is less dense so there aren't enough people to adopt them. In NYC and the surrounding area, we have a large human population, which in turn means the animals find forever homes at a higher rate up here. :)  PLEASE NOTE: This animal is not at the Social Tees office — all of our dogs and cats are in foster homes while they wait to find their forever families. :) If you’d like to apply to adopt this pet, please complete an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Because we are a small team and receive hundreds of applications each week, we are unable to respond to every application and every inquiry email, but we do our best. Please have patience! If your application is approved, you will for sure hear from us. If you have questions, please take a look at the Adoption and Fostering FAQs etc. on our website as all common questions are answered there. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we work to save these innocent lives!!  LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org; Instagram via @socialteesnyc; Facebook.com/socialteesanimalrescue
