Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Jesse is a handsome pup who is looking for a home. Jesse is with our rescue partner in Louisiana but can come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. We do offer a foster-to-adopt trial to approved adopters. Pictures don't do this handsome boy justice. The personality of a lab but the colors of a catahoula/german short-haired pointer, he's just stunning, especially in the sunlight. Since being in the shelter his real personality has started to shine.  Jesse is a playful dog, around 3 years old and 60 pounds. He loves to run around in the fenced yard but can also soak up country life while getting scratches. He's loveable and shows it by hugging you, he puts his legs around your hips while enjoying getting pets. He's good with other dogs and will give small corrections if a dog is "too much".  After a little growl he goes right back to playing. He would do best with a dog that is not that high energy so he can level.  He's good with both big and small dogs.  Jesse is also good with kids of all ages but he does like to hug so watch out for the little ones.  Jesse knows basic commands already, sit, down heel and come.  This sweet boy would love a home that takes him on walks/hikes and spends time playing with him.  Jesse is almost 100% housetrained, he is working on getting there.  Whoever adopts Jesse will have a loyal dog who asks for nothing but love and attention. . Jesse is fixed and up to date on vaccines. Jesse has started treatment for heartworm and can come to NJ once treatment is complete or can complete his treatment in NJ if we find a loving foster or adopter to help him through it. His adoption fee is $450.  Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training   prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home. How to Adopt Me! NEEDS REHOMING ASAP: Hi my name is Draco! I am a little over a year old, male, Catahoula Leopard! My birthday is February 5, 2024. I am extremely loving and protective of my family and make a great guard dog! I can get reactive around strangers and other dogs outside of my family. I am very smart and playful but struggle with a lot of anxiety when left alone :( I would love to be on a farm and work (thats what my breed does best) or with someone with an active lifestyle who understands that working dogs like myself require the utmost attention and patience! I am extremely lovable and am like your second shadow but Im not sure how i am around other dogs or children yet. I have also gone through extensive stim collar training so that when i get nervous in situations, i can refocus my attention to my owner!

Meet Carrie, our 4 year old Catahoula Mix!Carrie is an absolute beauty inside and out. As stunning as she is on the surface, it’s her gentle spirit that will capture your heart. Once you know her, it’s hard not gush about how special she is. Carrie is super sweet, playful, smart and affectionate. She is shy but rewards longstanding kindness with a big bright smile. She is happiest around trusted friends. When accompanied by her friends in a quiet familiar spot, she relaxes and shows off her fun, silly side. Carrie is an introvert who takes comfort in routines in calm environments. Despite her reserved demeanor, she is an avid hiker who beams with joy when she’s out on nature trails with human and doggy pals! She runs, she rolls, she climbs and revels in all the woodsy outdoor scents and sights. Carrie has been at the shelter for 6 months and is really hoping her forever person finds her soon. She knows sit, paw and takes treats politely. She is nervous walking down city streets and gets scared by loud noises so needs a strong pawrent who can help build her confidence in stressful situations. Carrie is looking for someone patient who will let her slowly adjust, decompress and reveal her delightful personality. Carrie is deeply cherished by regular volunteers and staff alike. We are all rooting for this darling girl to get the loving, happy, stable life she deserves. If you can commit to giving adorable Carrie the guidance, patience and assurance she is worthy of and are interested in making her part of your family, please come meet herCarrie is spayed, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vaccines. Story
CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ: Whoa, who’s that gorgeous light merle new cutie? It’s the playful and loving young Harlem! (previously known as Leonardo at the shelter, lovingly dubbed Harlem by his fosters) Sweet boy Harlem is only 1 year old and weighs 60 lbs. He has a rare light merle coloring that makes him stand out, but this good boy also has an outstanding personality! He is friendly and outgoing, greeting everyone he can – and climbing into laps if he can, too! Harlem is a sweet boy who does happy zoomies and enthusiastically plays with his toys. Harlem bonds deeply to his people and looks to them for comfort. Poor Harlem was originally found as a stray and although he suffered from kennel stress in the shelter, he was otherwise a very good boy. With how loving he is and how good at giving kisses, it is no wonder Harlem steals hearts wherever he goes! Harlem absolutely adores his fosters, wanting to be by their side and can tend to be a "velcro dog" so he is all about being your best friend! Being a young guy, Harlem has a higher energy level, so he loves to go for walks and play outside. He is dog friendly, currently living with multiple other dogs but will need proper intros, of course. Harlem is so excited to begin his second chance at life! Could that life be with you, as a loyal (and handsome) companion? Harlem is neutered, fully vetted, microchipped and ready to be adopted! Please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414 (text ok) or by e-mail at info@amsterdog.org. Apply to adopt dear Harlem at AmsterDog.org. Thanks for caring about a pet in need!

Story
Meet Floyd My name is Floyd! (This is a little long but please read!) I am not just a dog—I am a gentle soul with a heart big enough to fill your entire home. Despite a rough start and a few health bumps, I wake up every day with a wagging tail, ready to play fetch (even if I can’t see where the ball lands—I’ll find it with my nose and my heart ?). I am around 4 years old, 60 lbs and a stunning Catahoula mix. I was thrown out like trash by some very mean people. By some miracle, I survived. I was given this chance to search for my new family. I have certainly earned the right to a loving life. I am looking to be: • ? A best buddy to older kids and adults (I have not been exposed to kids under 11) • ? A dog friend/sibling to other respectful dogs • ? A dog brother to a cat or cats • ? Appreciative of all home comforts and living things and show my willingness to experience the world • ?A great patient to my new family - I am diabetic (managed with insulin twice a day and eye drops)—and a champion about it! Why am I listed as “special needs?” This my deal - I have cataracts that limits my vision. I don’t let it stop me from enjoying every ounce of love and play I can find! Ziva Dog Rescue has started to raise funds for a $7,000 surgery to restore my sight. I can still see but it’s limited. I am so excited to wake up after my procedure and see clearly! Could I “give in” and just let the cataracts take over? I guess… but I am still young and we feel that I finally deserve a full quality of life! ?I am not looking for perfect in my new home (no one is perfect) —I am looking for present. Someone who sees past my medical chart and might have some experience with diabetic dogs. If you’ve ever wanted to be someone’s hero, this is your moment. Adopt me! Let me show you what unconditional love really looks like. Ziva Dog Rescue realizes that by adopting a dog like Floyd, Floyd’s new family may take on “out of the norm” expenses right away. Thank you to the Kia Pet Adoption Grant, Floyd’s fee will be waived when he is adopted by his forever family. If you would like to apply to adoption Floyd, here is the application: https://asecondchanceforziva.org/adopt/adoption-process-application/ If you would like to donate to Floyd’s future surgery, he certainly appreciates every dollar: https://asecondchanceforziva.org/donate/
