Story
Meet Maple! This pretty girl originally came to our rescue 2 years ago when we rescued her from a Riverside Shelter. She is now 6 years old. It was immediately apparent that Maple did not come from ideal circumstances. She was extremely fearful of humans. When approached she would run, yelp, and scream to try to avoid being touched. She had stress patching and wouldn’t eat dog food out of a bowl, however, she knows exactly what people's food is. She was placed with a great foster that worked with her on trusting people. Slowly she began to gain confidence and progress into such a good girl. Once she had some progression and was easier to work with Maple was adopted. We were so happy that she had a home that could accommodate her. Through the years of regular pictures and videos, she seemed to be living her best life with her family. She was going on trails with horses, camping, swimming in her pool, and keeping all the kids and dogs quiet and in line at her house. She grew to be a very independent dog but seems to dislike loud noises, people arguing or anyone touching her without her permission. Unfortunately, due to extremely unforeseen circumstances, Maple ended up at the Riverside Shelter at the end of October 2023. We pulled her as soon as the shelter would allow us to but it was still over a week and Maple became stressed and scared again. Maple was taken in by a new foster home to help her decompress and gain trust again. Although the shelter was hard on her she was definitely showing that she had progressed greatly throughout the years. Her current foster has allowed her to become independent, trusting, and even playful and loving at times with her person. She is still not a fan of being touched without permission but will let you know when she wants pets. Being picked up is still hard but with a blanket and some patience, it can be done. She loves to sit right next to you once you have settled on the couch or in bed. She can co-exist with other dogs and probably cats. We recommend a home with children 12 or older. Due to past trauma, she does not like leashes, collars, and harnesses, and therefore doesn’t go on walks. She enjoys her space, her treats, her blankets, and her person. Once she finds her person she will love and protect them for the rest of her life. She is currently using potty pads inside but will go outside, is crate trained and enjoys the sunlight and following her person around. Story
I adopted Koa on 6/9/2024 from the LB Shelter. He is 2 + yrs old. He is very loving playful and active. When I brought him home he had a cough which I thought was just kennel cough. He has been to the vet numerous times. He has an acid issue and at times throws up bile. The vomiting has gotten much better meaning frequency is less but still continues. I am unable to care for his medical needs. I have tried everything changing his food adding expensive probiotics and so on. Our personalities are not a good match. I am going through menopause am experiencing a lot of fatigue Koa still has puppy energy hipperness boardom, impatience which I believe contributes to his acid issue. I can no longer care for his medical needs nor his need to chew my items he chewed up my $250 night guard. Even my Roxy Yorkshire Terrier gets tired of his high energy. I love Koa and want him to go into a new loving home who are experienced in Chihuahuas with the coughing. A big yard would be nice as well.

Story
New beginnings deserve a new name. (Grass Valley, CA) As Nomi starts this exciting new chapter, her foster gave her a name that fits her perfectly: Naomi. She’s already mastered the doggie door, has made herself right at home in her pack of foster siblings, and follows her foster mom like a little shadow. Welcome to your fresh start, sweet Naomi. Though Naomi is not yet available for adoption until her vetting is complete, we are accepting applications now. With how slow adoptions are, we want to help Naomi find her forever family as soon as we are able. Learn more about adopting Naomi here: https://www.gunterslegacy.org/adopt ##2403930##

Story
Pomona, CA We are delighted to introduce you to Tito, a wonderful little dog from a Riverside shelter who is now seeking his forever home. This exceptionally active boy, estimated to be around six years old, would make a fantastic companion for someone with an active lifestyle who can provide him with regular walks and opportunities for play. Interestingly, he responds with great enthusiasm to the name Batman, although his name is Tito. He came to our rescue at the same time as another dog we named Carlos, and within our organization, they are affectionately known as Carlos Santana and Tito Fuentes. Tito possesses a truly playful nature. He particularly enjoys squeaky toys and balls, and he will happily engage in a game of fetch for extended periods if given the chance. While we initially suspected a strong bond between Tito and Carlos, they appear to be quite independent. Unfortunately, we have no background information on their lives before arriving at the shelter, as they were listed as confiscated and were exclusively available to rescue organizations. Although Tito may exhibit some initial shyness when meeting new people, he quickly becomes playful and affectionate once he feels comfortable. He also interacts well with other dogs. In his foster home, he lives with a cat who is considerably larger than him. While Tito has occasionally attempted to chase the cat, she remains unfazed and does not run, which discourages him. Tito will bark when he sees strangers; however, he responds well to verbal reassurance and will stop barking once acknowledged with a simple "Thank you, I see him/her." One of Tito's great joys is spending time outdoors, where he loves to follow the sun's path across the yard. It is important to note that Tito experienced a significant allergic reaction to his rabies vaccination, so any prospective adopter should be aware of this sensitivity. He weighs approximately 10 pounds and has already been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Occasionally, Tito can be a little territorial regarding his personal items, such as his bed and blanket, preferring not to share them. Despite this minor trait, he is truly a good-natured dog who we believe would thrive with an active individual or family. While he enjoys being out and about, he is also well-behaved indoors and often enjoys relaxing on the couch. As he tends to eat very quickly, he is fed from a special bowl designed to slow his eating. He also delights in having energetic bursts of activity, which we call "zoomies." We are confident that in the right loving home, Tito will continue to flourish and show even more of his wonderful personality. If you believe that Tito would be a perfect fit for your family and you can offer him the active life he needs, we encourage you to contact us for further information or to arrange a meeting. www.gunterslegacy.org ##2163184##
