Story
Male, 1 year old, 10lbs Good with: Dogs   Not good with: Kids   Not tested with: Cats   Hi, I'm Bear! I'm a sweet one year old chihuauha mix. I take some time to warm up to new people: I will nip sometimes if I am scared, especially if you touch my head. However, once I warm up, I'm sure to make a great companion. I shouldn't be in a home with young kids because of this, though.   The nice folks at RDR will update my profile when they learn more about me. I can't wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give!   Bear tested positive for heartworm and will need to undergo treatment once they arrive in the DMV, either while in foster or once they are with their adopter. RDR will cover the cost of the heartworm treatment through our vet partner. If the adopter would prefer to complete treatment at their vet, RDR will reimburse up to the treatment cost through our vet partner. During treatment, they need restricted exercise to short leashed walks only, and they need a fairly quiet home where they aren’t going to be overstimulated too much. Once the treatment is complete and they get the all clear from the vet, they will be able to live a totally normal/unrestricted life like any other dog. Dogs should be retested 9-12 months after treatment is completed and every year afterwards as part of their annual exam. For more information on heartworms click here: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics   Adoption Application : http://bit.ly/adoptrdr Foster Application :  https://rdr.formstack.com/forms/foster_app My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Overall wellness exam Current on all core vaccines (including DHPP & rabies) Microchip Current on flea & tick and heartworm preventatives   Interested in adopting a rescue dog? Story
Male, 2 years old, 5lbs Not tested with: Dogs, Cats, Kids House trained: Mostly with an occasional accident Energy level: Low Noise level: Some Hi there, I'm Spots, a sweet and shy pup just looking for my special human to tag along with around the house. I absolutely love being near my person and finding solace in a comfy dog bed. Now, when it comes to being picked up, well, that's not really my thing. I prefer to keep my paws firmly on the ground. During my brief time with my foster, they noticed a couple of accidents, so I guess I could use a bit of training in that department. The whole housetraining thing is a work in progress, and I'm still figuring it out. As for activities, short walks are right up my alley, and I have a knack for being a bit of a couch potato. Low energy is more my style. I'm not too vocal, just a few sounds here and there to express myself. Some might say I'm a bit timid and skittish, but give me some time, and I'll warm up to you. Independence is my strong suit, and I value my personal space. If you're looking for a gentle and easygoing friend, I might just be the one for you. I can’t wait to find my forever home where I can share all the love I’ve got to give! My foster guardian says: “ Spots is a cutie just looking for his human that he can follow around the house.” Likes: Being near my humans and a comfy bed Dislikes : Being picked up My ideal home: I think I'd be a great fit for seniors or those looking for a calm and laid-back companion. Apartment living suits me just fine, and a yard isn't a necessity. I'm still a bit unsure about how I feel around kids, other dogs, and cats, but with the right match, I'm sure I'll find my place.  Adoption Application : http://bit.ly/adoptrdr Foster Application :  https://rdr.formstack.com/forms/foster_app   Spots tested positive for heartworm and will need to undergo treatment once they arrive in the DMV, either while in foster or once they are with their adopter. Story
Male, 14 months old, 10 lbs Good with: Small dogs  Not good with: Large dogs, cats (scared of both)  Not tested with: Kids House trained: Mostly   Energy level: Medium  Noise level:  Quiet  Hi, I'm Gabriel! I'm a very nice Chi mix, but I've had a rough start to life. I'm looking forward to being in a forever home where I can be loved the way I deserve!   Although I can be a little timid at first, I open up quickly once I feel safe with you. Pets, cuddles, belly rubs, and treats go a long way! I'm your perfect work-from-home partner. I could spend all day sleeping in your lap at your desk. I'm also okay left alone if you need to go into the office and will quietly nap or play with my toys. I don't need too much exercise and am happy to just relax with you all day. If you want a little lap warmer with the cutest face, then I'm the pup for you! I'll happily sleep wherever I am: I'm just a big couch potato (who will still occasionally get the zoomies!)   Since I'm young, I'm still working on some training. I'm still getting comfortable walking on a leash and getting comfortable with city noises! I'm also mostly housetrained with an occasional accident, but I'm overall good as long as I get a couple of walks a day.   I can't wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give! My foster guardian says: "Absolute snuggle bug!" Likes: Warm laps, zoomies, pets, cuddles, treats, playing with toys Dislikes:  Being overstimulated, new people, big dogs My ideal home:  I would love a quiet/calm home with someone ready to help me navigate the city.  Adoption Application : http://bit.ly/adoptrdr Foster Application :  https://rdr.formstack.com/forms/foster_app My adoption fee includes: Spay/Neuter Surgery (unless I'm too to young!) Story
Elvis is a loving, caring Pomeranian chi mix! He adores ALL people, children, and dogs. He spends most of his days napping and hanging out with family. He requires a small amount of exercise daily (three 5-10 minute walks). He walks well on the leash and does not pull at all. After his morning walk, he tends to sleep most of the day away! He has great house manners and listens very well. Currently, he knows commands in Spanish, including the basics (Sientate/Sit, Espera/Wait and Ven Aqui/come). He is extremely food motivated when it comes to training, so it will be easy to expand his vocabulary in English. Elvis does have mild separation anxiety, which leads to him having accidents if he is left home alone outside of the crate. Additionally, he may have the occasional accident overnight. He is 100% crate trained, so we would definitely recommend using a crate, so he won’t have any accidents. Elvis has a heart condition which requires him to take medicine daily. Additionally, he will need to go to the cardiologist every 6 months for a recheck echo. All in all, Elvis would be an excellent addition to any family looking for a super smart, low energy, friendly, and loyal dog. My Profile Age: 7 years Weight: 12 pounds Good with kids: Yes Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Unknown Fenced yard: No Suitable for townhouse and/or apartment: Yes House trained: Mostly Crate trained: Yes Barks when left alone: No Chews inappropriate items: No Training: Sientate/Sit, Espera/Wait & Ven Aqui/Come Activity level: Low Special needs: Yes, I need daily medication.
