Story
Meet Luna! Luna has returned to Miri's Haven after more than a year in her adoptive home. Her owner had a medical issue and her family was unable to care for Luna. Luna returned to us completely bewildered, unsure what just happened, and with a few extra pounds that we're helping her shed with time and care. She loves sunbathing, snuggling, and taking long naps with her favorite people. She's housetrained and gets along beautifully with the other dogs in her foster home as well. Luna is approximately 9 years old and 12 lbs. Fostered in Severn, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
We want to preface this post by saying PUPPIES AND KITTENS ARE NOT HOLIDAY GIFTS! They are life-long commitments! Small dogs can live 15+ years with appropriate care. Please do not apply unless you're willing to provide a forever home. Miso (M - creamy white) and Meet Freya (F - black and white) - these two darlings are looking for (separate) loving homes. They are approximately 9 weeks old and currently weigh under 5 pounds. They are expected to stay small, we estimate 10-20 pounds. They are purebred Heinz 57 (likely some mix of Chihuahua/Shi-Tzu/Beagle/Dachshund based on the adult dogs in the home). Freya is fierce! She is high-energy, independent, curious, and very smart. She is ready for your next adventure! But when it is time to settle down, she snuggles right in and is a sweet and loving little girl. Miso is a snuggle bug. Smaller and more chill than his sister, he approaches the world more slowly and is a bit more timid than Freya. He is affectionate and sweet. But also full of puppy playfulness and energy. Because they are so small and they are quite mouthy, we will not consider adopting them out to families with babies or elementary school-age children. Because they are so young, someone must be home with them most of the day. If you are interested in adopting Freya or Miso, please complete our nonbinding application: click here to send a non-binding application

Story
Meet Piglet! He’s a sentient loaf with a tender soul wrapped in a rotund exterior —like if a Hot Pocket came to life. Piglet came to Miri's at twice the weight he should be, and he has been killing the fitness game since he got here: he’s gone from 12.4 lbs to 11.7, has started conquering indoor stairs (just the “up” for now. We celebrate progress, not perfection), and his sticky neck skin is healed. He loves leash outings, and if you so much as whisper the word “walk,” he’ll bark and bounce like a snack-sized gazelle. We’re keeping up with Piglet's health regimen and cheering him on every step (or stair) of the way. Piglet is looking for his forever home… but he’s not looking that hard because he refuses to move from his current cozy spot. So you’ll have to come to him. Here's what you need to know about this friendly (and sometimes spicy) burrito: - He gets along well with other dogs and cats and would love a canine brother or sister - He's working hard on housetraining and rocking a belly band in the meanwhile - He can be left home alone without starting a riot or getting into mischief - He LOVES exploring outside and smelling all the smells - his ideal home will have a fenced in yard and a family who'll take him on lots of walks and adventures (even hikes once he's slimmed down a bit!) Piglet needs time to warm up to new people before he trusts them enough for pets (honestly, seems like a good rule for all of us). His forever family will need to be patient, go slowly with him, and learn his body language so they can tell when he's uncomfortable and give him space. But once he knows he can trust you, he is the most loving, loyal, sweet, and squishy man. Piglet thrives in chill, predictable environments. So, no toddlers, no loud parties, and definitely no surprise guests dropping by all the time. Gentle, patient humans who are home a lot? Perfect. He’s also more of a “ladies’ man” than a “dude’s dude,” so he tends to prefer women over men. Most importantly, Piglet needs a family that will help him continue on his weight-loss journey. He’s got dreams of running, jumping, and chasing squirrels like a real, active dog. Help him reach his full potential, and he’ll reward you with love, loyalty, and cuddle sessions. Currently, Piglet's breathing seems labored, which may be weight-related. He has a level three (out of five) heart murmur that does not require medication. This little burrito has a heart as big as his body and will bring his forever family an endless supply of love, joy, and laughter. Submit your application for his review today! Piglet is approximately 8 years old and 11.7 lbs. Fostered in Woodbridge, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Meet Ernestine, aka Tina! This dainty little queen could easily win an award for Best Actress in Being Precious. Tina was found as a stray down south, lost, frightened, and unsure of what kindness looks like. Now she’s safe at the Haven after taking her very first flight to get to us. She’s spending her time in foster care resting, healing, and learning the fine art of chihuahua diplomacy in a house full of tiny, friendly supervisors who have made her feel right at home. Tina is looking for a home with patient humans who will let her acclimate on her own timeline. While it takes her some time to trust you and she's not much for snuggling yet, she LOVES chicken jerky treats and they are a surefire way to win her heart. She bravely eats them directly from her foster mom's hand, and will even let her foster mom pick her up as long as she does it confidently. Tina is a great dining companion. As soon as her foster mom sits down to eat dinner, Tina is right in front of her asking for a seat at the table. She's not leash-trained so she'll require a fenced-in yard. She loves bouncing around her foster mom's yard like a silly, happy explorer. Tina is a sweet girl who clearly wants attention, but she isn't sure yet if it's safe. Because of this, Tina does not like being pet or cuddled yet, but she loves when people coo to her or talk gently. We hope that with time, patience, and medical care to address physical pain, she'll come around. Tina gets along well with other small dogs - we haven't had a chance to observe her with bigger ones yet. She's learning lots of new skills in her foster home and is making great progress on both stairs and housetraining. For now, she will benefit from having some potty pads around. Tina does well in the car and is happy to stay home while her humans are at work. She will need a lot of patience and time to decompress in her new home. For now, she is not ready to be petted or cuddled but she likes when people talk to her gently. She enjoys hanging out in her crate, where she feels safest. Tina is looking for a quiet, gentle, and patient forever family who will win her over one chicken jerky treat at a time. Could it be yours? Ernestine is approximately 9 years old and 10 lbs. Fostered in Richmond, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Meet Cornelius! Cornelius is a local celebrity, style icon, and the one-eyed bundle of love you didn’t know you needed. When we first introduced this pint-sized powerhouse, he came to us looking like he might not make it. We knew he faced an uphill battle to become healthy again, and luckily he had an unexpected fighting spirit. This resilient nugget went through massive palate reconstruction and somehow managed to just shrug it off like it was not big thing. He hasn’t missed a single beat in recovery. Cornelius is a pint-sized pirate of passion with exactly one working eye and absolutely zero sense of personal space. He’s part gremlin, part cuddlebug, and spends his evenings burrowing into blankets like a mole on a mission, staring into the middle distance with his good eye like he’s solving cosmic mysteries, and vibrating with joy anytime a snack bag crinkles within a 20-foot radius. He is all personality and loves his people - and his life - fiercely. Cornelius would love to be an only dog, but is happy to coexist with other dogs and cats if they let him be. He would love a fenced-in yard to totter around and sunbathe in. Because of his visual impairment and history of severe neglect, he can be a little spicy when surprised (or when, like any of us, he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed). But he loves his chosen people and gives the absolute best kisses and cuddles. Cornelius is approximately 12 years old, 6lbs, and absolutely epic. Meet Daphne! There’s something magical about this chonk - she’s got that razzle dazzle and we know you can see it, too! A low key queen, Daphne just wants to Netflix & Chill next to you. She'll even grab your arm with her paw so she can give you kisses. Daphne is low maintenance in every way - loves strutting her stuff on the leash, riding shotgun in the car, and sleeping through the night (as long as she's in bed with her person, of course!). She is housetrained, a pee pad pro, and doesn't mind staying home alone while her humans are out and about, especially if she has another pup to keep her company. As she continues to have success on her weight loss journey, she's getting more energetic and playful. Daphne loves being around other dogs and is so great with cats that she plays with them! She prefers women over men and loves being spoken to like a baby. Her dream home is child-free but includes a canine sibling, as well as a family who will help her slim down. Daphne is on a special diet and exercise plan to address her weight, and needs a family who will be strict with her food intake, take her on lots of walks, and help her crush her weight loss goals. She has a history of bladder stones and needs a special urinary diet to prevent recurrence. Daphne can be selective when choosing her people, but completely melts into you once she's chosen you as hers. A strong independent woman, she'd rather you not pick her up unless you're giving her a lift into the car or onto the bed. She's an A + listener and was recenty elected president of the Goodest Girl club in her foster home. Apply today to meet her! Daphne is approximately 8 years old and 20 lbs. Story
Meet Brady! Brady arrived with the kind of heartbreak you can feel as soon as you meet a pup. Thirteen and a half years old, a tiny Pomeranian with a big history, suddenly uprooted after his mom’s dementia made it impossible for her to keep caring for him. He’s confused, scared, and trying his best to be brave while his whole world has changed overnight. He met the other dogs politely, kept his distance, and walked gently on leash, but you can see him scanning every corner for something familiar. He doesn’t love being picked up, and who can blame him?! His hips ache with arthritis, his heart murmurs along, and he’s back on the urinary diet that keeps those bladder stones at bay. What he needs now is simply a soft place to land and someone patient enough to let him exhale. Brady has lived well with another dog before, understands yard-to-leash life, and will happily shout about whatever he thinks needs announcing (including the outrageous act of you sitting at the table to eat without him). He’s been shaved down because brushing isn’t his thing, and he’s a little unsure of crates. But deep down, he’s just a senior boy who lost his person and is trying to understand what comes next. Brady will need someone calm, gentle, and willing to help him feel safe again. Could it be you? Brady is approximately 13 years old and 9 lbs. More details to follow as we get to know him better. Story
Meet Oso! This sweet, bewildered floof was surrendered to the shelter because his owner “had no time” for him. Eleven years old. Completely blind. And possibly unable to hear. Imagine losing the world you know and the people you love ~ then being left in a loud, bright, unfamiliar place you can’t see. We quickly got him into a loving foster home where he was able to decompress . Once he did, we discovered that he is the sweetest, snuggliest, most loving little bear. Oso's top three list: 1) belly rubs, 2) belly rubs, and 3) more belly rubs! This little man loves to snuggle up and cuddle with his people, and when they're not available he'll find the nearest soft bed and sleep the soundest sleep you've ever seen. Despite being blind and hard of hearing, Oso navigates life with confidence and adapts beautifully to his surroundings. He loves being outside (see the photo of him soaking in a beautiful sunset while facing the wrong way) and is great on a leash and in the car. Oso gets along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, and children, is totally housetrained, and sleeps soundly through the night. He’s comfortable being home alone when needed, as long as he's in a smaller, contained area so he can't accidentally hurt himself. And as long as it has lots of comfy beds, of course. Oso has a mild (1/6) heart murmur but his radiographs look great and he doesn't need any medication for it. He's looking for a peaceful forever home that's generally calm and quiet, and gentle humans who will shower him with the love, cuddles, and belly rubs he deserves. He can navigate a few stairs under supervision, but it's best that any stairs in the home are blocked off for his safety. If you’re looking for a fluffy, affectionate king who will fill your life with warmth, joy, and sunshine, Oso is ready to meet you! Oso is approximately 11 years old and 9 lbs. APPLICATION LINK: https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/ We must have an application to move forward. (Shayne's Rescue is an affiliate with PetCentralSATX). If there are problems with the website, please email me for help. MAX is a neutered male, approximately 6 ½ yrs old. He weighs 20#. (See below for his DNA Test.) We have had him professionally groomed to show off his beautiful tail. We had him shaved some which helps him keep clean. He’s a very sweet dog but he has gone through a major life event...the owner had to surrender him due to their loss of housing. Max took the adjustment hard but he has pulled through and now shows himself to be a wonderful affectionate dog. He is active and happy yet shy and submissive. He was not exposed to much of the outside world… like walking into the store or going to the park. Max gets along great with the other dogs. He asks to go outside and demands to come back in...scratching at the door. I see a lot of future for him with a loving person or couple that would like some company on an evening walk and fun with a picnic lunch. He is food motivated. Max likes being on the couch or in bed with his person. Max frequently comes up asking for love. He is house trained and most of the time he leaves my cats alone. I did catch him playing with one of my cats... they were both face-to-face and with one paw each swinging at each other. I wish I could have gotten that in a video. Max is also easy on the leash. I would NOT put him with young children… “adult-like” children would be fine. He is basically fairly quiet and would do well in an apartment. DNA TEST: 25% Dachshund (Mini Shorthair) 25% Pomeranian 12.5% Chihuahua 12.5% English Cocker Spaniel 12.5% Tibetan Spaniel 12.5% Breed Groups This dog is CURRENTLY IN TEXAS and available for pre-adoption. Adoptions include neuter/spay, vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies), microchip, health certificate, transport with our professional dog transporter, and 6 mos of heart worm prevention. If you have any questions or would like an e-mail from us as to how all of this works, text me (Terry); identify the dog's name and give me your email address... 210-394-6060. You can also go to our Facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/Pet-Central-SATX-866684826744181/ and LIKE us to help us out. If you experience any issues filling out the application you can contact us directly at petcentralsatx@gmail.com. This is ONLY if you have problems applying. All pups and dogs are fully vetted, spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, have a negative heart worm test for all dogs over 6 months at time of transport, have a health certificate, and have all age-appropriate vaccinations. Some dogs/pups have additional medical, including but not limited to FHO, ACL, hernias, dental, and other vetting. All medical records will be provided to the adopter at the time they pick up their dog. This is a post on behalf of Pet Central SATX Rescue, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, where there are over 350,000 homeless pets. We have hundreds of puppies/dogs available so there really is no need to apply anywhere else. Also, one application is good even if you are interested in several different dogs...one application no matter which one you choose. Thank you for choosing to adopt a rescue pup/dog. We firmly believe there is NO breed other than "rescue" for all species. Thank you for being part of the village it takes to save these precious lives.
