Story
If you have questions about Santiago, please get in touch with tsntignor@hotmail.com Santiago is a sweet, affectionate, and chill little guy. He most enjoys the company of dogs ...oh and treats! He also enjoys playing with toys. He has done well in his crate when his foster family leaves the house. He still has so much to learn but he's on the path to becoming his best, little doggie self. Santiago is still learning the world isn't a scary place. He's hoping for an adopter with another friendly dog or two, with a fenced yard (no apartments for this guy), and a huge place in their heart for him. Santiago was surrendered by a commercial breeder. He was no longer wanted, and had no place to go. He deserved better, so we opened our doors and hearts earlier this month to change that for him. He is an adorable, special little dog who has endured quite a lot on his way to the safety of the Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation. He is looking for a family with abundant patience, love, and an understanding of his needs to help him be a wonderful companion - and your best friend forever.

Or, how about these Chihuahuas in cities near Arlington, Virginia

Story
Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinyS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.MATTHEW     MaleChihuahua and terrier mix18 pounds 6 years old as of December 2023   Small dogs get grabbed and picked up and hugged and squeezed by people who wouldn't dream of doing that to much bigger pups with much bigger teeth. Matthew didn't want to go the Italian mastiff route (way too drooly and undignified), but he figured out a way to get the respect and reverence due him: Transmogrify into a cat.    That worked halfway. Outside, he's a small, cute dog. Inside, he is all cat.    You know how you don't just reach out and try to pat a cat on the head? You sit there and wait for the cat to come to you. You don't move a muscle as the cat investigates you. Not even when it starts nudging you with its head. But when it starts rubbing its body heartily against you - that's when you lift a finger and oh so gently start stroking it. You watch carefully to make sure you still have consent to pet as you continue caressing it. Once it backs off - you back off too!   You know how you keep respecting the cat's space and then one day the cat comes to sit in your lap, purring, and all is good with the world? And then the cat is always yours, forever and ever?   That is Matthew.    You know how cats sit blocking a hallway or staircase, just daring a dog to try and come through? And the dog tries to sidle through without making eye contact, sideways, to avoid the cat's wrath?    That is Matthew too. His domain is his alone.    Matthew is truly a sweetie. Right now he finds many things intimidating - we don't know what he went through before arriving at the shelter. But he is oh so eager to have a space where he can trust and love. He needs patient humans who will set him up for success in a quiet home. The reward? The earned love and loyalty of an animal like that - there's nothing like it.  “What greater gift than the love of a cat?” — Charles Dickens   Will Matthew be your gift to yourself?   Gets Along With:   Adult humans! Due to his breed mix and personality, Matthew is not well suited for a home with children under the age of 12. He would be best as the only pet in the home at this time.    Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Little Chihuahua with big ears and eyes of gold KIRKZ NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:   Kirkz          Best Guess for Breed:   Chihuahua and terrier mix     Best Guess for Age:   1 year, 6 months as of 1/12/2024     SEX:    male   Approximate Weight:   12 lbs.   Gets Along With:    Other dogs. Kirkz cannot go to a home with kids under age 12 due to his breed. He also cannot go to a home with cats.   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Check out this video of Kirkz: https://youtu.be/MK5RmRW8vmw.   Special adoption considerations:    No kids under 12 due to breed and no cats.   Kirkz is Looking For:   Kirkz can't wait to see what life in the big city is like. Chihuahuas are energetic little busybodies who keep their pet parents amused with their antics. They aren't meant to be running partners but Chihuahuas are happy to accompany you on frequent walks around the neighborhood to check out the exciting scents and meet new people. This adorable little guy is sure to break hearts with his big ears and soulful golden eyes.   Dog parks with a designated small dog area are best for these little ones. .Doggie daycare would be another great way for him to play and make new canine friends. Chihuahuas are known for having a bold, 'big dog attitude'  start training early with Kirkz. You will both have loads of fun as learns how to show you what a good boy he can be. What My Foster Says About Me: Kirkz is a lively little boy who likes nothing better than to crawl into your lap and demand tummy rubs. He loves playing with the resident dog. He enjoys the crate and once he’s there, he’ll sleep the night away. Kirkz is great on walks, saying hello to everyone he meets, whether canine or human. He’s a bit of a puller, but at 12-13 pounds, it’s no biggie. He gets into the car readily, and enjoys the ride once he’sbuckled in.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations. Story
Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Handsome little dude looking for his forever home! WAZOWSKI NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:   Wazowski        Best Guess for Breed:   Chihuahua and terrier mix  Best Guess for Age:   8 years as of Jan. 2024        SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:   21 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We haven’t seen Wazowski with cats, but he can be tested! Due to his breed mix, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12.    Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations:   Wazowski is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Additionally, due to his breed mix, Wazkowski should not go to a home with kids under 12.   All About Wazowski: Meet Wazkowski, the charming 8-year-old chihuahua mix with a heart of gold! This pint-sized pup may be small in stature, but he's overflowing with personality and love to give. With his endearing ears and soulful brown eyes, Wazkowski is sure to steal your heart from the moment you meet him. Despite his age, he's still full of energy and spunk, always up for a game of fetch or a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood. Wazkowski is a true social butterfly, getting along famously with both humans and other furry friends alike. He's the perfect companion for anyone looking to add a little extra joy and warmth to their lives.  Wazkowski's ideal forever home would be one filled with love, patience, and plenty of cuddles. While he may take a little time to warm up to new surroundings, once he trusts you, he'll be your most loyal companion for life. Whether you're relaxing at home on the couch or exploring the great outdoors, Wazkowski will be right by your side, ready to experience all of life's adventures together. If you're ready to open your heart and home to this sweet senior pup, Wazkowski is eager to meet you and join your family. What My Foster Says About Me:   Wazowski is the perfect companion dog. He may be 8 years old but he still has energy to play and loves to explore the outdoors. Overall he is a pretty calm dog and likes to take his naps. He is friendly with people and likes to get on your lap once he gets to know you. Gets excited when there are other dogs around. Still learning basic commands like sit but he is starting to get it. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.small sweetie seeking fresh start and love! MALCOLM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Malcolm and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (April 28th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904)!   Name: Malcolm     Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:   3 years 11 months as of April 2024        SEX: Male   Approximate Weight:  12.6 lbs Gets Along With:  Malcolm does well with other dogs. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested once he has arrived in the DC area. Due to his breed mix, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12.  Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.   Special adoption considerations:  Malcolm is from a hoarding/cruelty situation, and was very scared at rescue. He was placed in a short term foster home pending a hoped-for flight to the DC area on 4/13 (foster or adopter needed for that to happen!) and has been making great strides! We think he will benefit from being in a home with a welcoming resident dog or having numerous opportunities to be around other dogs in various environments - they will show him how to dog in new places! Extra patient and loving humans are definitely needed. Additionally, due to his breed mix, he may not go to a home with children under the age of 12.    Malcolm is Looking For:  For a loving home that delivers all the sweet things his rescuers whispered in his ear.... 'You're safe now, sweet boy. The life you deserve starts now. You get lots of love, quality kibble, a cushy dog bed - and a warm lap if you'd like too. You're safe now, sweet boy.'   Malcolm was rescued from a hoarding/cruelty case and landed in a massive south Texas shelter that routinely has 1200-1500 animals in their care; his chances of being adopted in that area are, well, low to nil. Once he arrives in the DC area, he likely will be nervous in new environments. He is eager to get his own humans - ones who get that he might need extra support during his adjustment and give himall the love and patience he needs. And ones who take him for sniffy walks and all those adventures he's been missing out on - he's in his prime and has lost time to make up for! And what do his humans they get in return? An incredibly sweet and loving dog with an enormous stockpile of adoring gazes and loyal companionship to offer the humans in his new chapter.     What do you say? Will you help him write it? What My Foster Says About Me:   Malcolm is super sweet and made great strides since arriving. He did not know how to walk on a leash at first (he would just stand there and not move) and now he loves going for walks! He also loves to stare out the window. He follows me around everywhere and loves to cuddle. We are working on learning to ‘sit’ and he’s getting there. He has gotten much better with the potty training and gets along with other dogs (though he does appear more shy at adoption events than at home). Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, his neuter and transport from the shelter. Story
Sometimes we never know what we will see when we start up our car and leave the safety of our homes and our beloved pets that wait for us to return.  Sometimes what we see on the road is disturbing and downright WRONG.     This pair of Chihuahuas were discovered by one of our faithful rescue fosters as she traveled a back country road that was mostly farmland and very few  houses on the road.  First she say the little white chihuahua in the road and he ran from her and wouldn’t let her catch him.  She tried for a while.  Then she went to the nearest house and talked to a man who was out in his yard about this white Chihuahua.  He told her who owned the land where the dog was seen running and so a few days later she went back determined to ride up and down the road until she could see the dog again.  Well there were TWO little chihuahuas now; white and black and tan.  She found the owners of the land and asked them about the Chis and was told they were dropped off by some unknown person and that they had been up in their barn trying to eat the cow feed. They were abandoned and soon our rescue foster trapped them and brought them home to change their life forever.  We are getting them vetted and neutered and spayed 1/26. WE NEED FOSTER HELP!   The white boy is very shy and the black and tan is a female and the “protector” of her male friend.  Help us give them a short term place to stay while we look for a permanent and forever loving home!  Can you help for a few weeks?  Please contact us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com.  They can be fostered in Nashville, TN or even in the New England area.  We transport weekly and just need someone to show them kindness, love and stability.  They will be ever so grateful!   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comApril 23, 2024, 4:30 pm
