Story
Good with: Small and medium dogsNot good with: Some fear of larger dogsHouse trained: YesEnergy level: LowNoise level: Some Hey there I'm Bear and I'm on a mission to find my perfect forever home. Let me tell you a bit about myself. First off I'm a big fan of my person or people. I love staying close to them showering them with kisses and soaking up all the belly rubs I can get. Home is where my heart is quite literally as I'm happiest when I'm indoors cozying up in my bed or snuggling in someone's lap. I recently finished heartworm treatment and did great throughout the treatment process. The doctor said I should have a full recovery and have a happy life thanks to a successful treatment plan. I won't have any special medical needs long term, other than continuing regular monthly heartworm preventatives to avoid reinfection, and can live a normal life. I've been resting and recovering well with my foster, and now I'm ready for my forever home! Luckily when it comes to activities I'm not too high maintenance. I enjoy short walks where I can explore independently but I'll also race down the hallway at lightning speed when the mood strikes. Playing with my favorite toys is always a blast and I have a particular penchant for socks and small articles of clothing. I like to collect them in one spot sometimes hiding them under couch pillows for safekeeping. But dont worry I wont actually damage them! Now onto my dislikes. I'm not a fan of being left alone but don't worry I'm not destructive. I might bark a bit to let you know I'm not happy about it though. Car rides also make me a bit queasy, especially the long ones. And let's talk about big dogs - they make me a tad nervous so I'll try to avoid them if I can. In terms of training, I'm still a work in progress. I'm dealing with some separation anxiety and I'm a bit shy around new people. But with a patient and loving family, I know I can overcome these challenges. I get along well with small dogs and I'm okay with calm medium-sized ones too. Overall I'm a playful affectionate and gentle guy with a touch of goofiness. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will stick by your side through thick and thin I'm your Bear. Likes: My people; short walks; kisses; belly rubs; home/being indoors; walking independently; resting in bed or your lap; wet food; small dogs; toys; socks; broccoli and green beans Dislikes: My person leaving; car rides; bigger dogs; rain; long walks My ideal home: Id prefer to be in a home where my owner is home more often than not since I have some separation anxiety. Otherwise I am very sweet and easy-going and would do well in many environments! Story
Meet Ollie, a sweet and silly Chihuahua mix. While slow to trust, he loves to cuddle up on the couch or under a blanket once he does. He's very clever and loves to learn tricks, and he'll do almost anything for a piece of cheese. Despite his tiny legs, this 10-pound pup will walk with you for as long as you want. He loves sniffing around, but he'll bark at the people you walk past (just in case they want to hurt him, or you). If you think of him like a semi-social rescue cat who wants love and snuggles but only on their terms, then you've got it; he's a dog that someone intended to make a cat, but messed up at the last second. He takes anti-anxiety medication every morning, and it works like a charm. He has half a lifetime of love still to give, and we want him to be very happy for his last 8-10 years. The perfect household is one with no other dogs, though a cat would be okay, with somebody who'll let him lounge in the sunshine all day, then cuddle up on the couch after work, and mayb

Story
Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Little Chihuahua with big ears and eyes of gold KIRKZ NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Kirkz and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (July 28th) from 12-3 pm at the Petsmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904)!     Name:   Kirkz          Best Guess for Breed:   Chihuahua and terrier mix     Best Guess for Age:   1 year, 6 months as of 1/12/2024     SEX:    male   Approximate Weight:   17 lbs.   Gets Along With:    Other dogs! We do not recommend Kirkz for a home with cats.   Special Adoption Considerations: We would be cautious placing Kirkz in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Check out this video of Kirkz: https://youtu.be/MK5RmRW8vmw.   Kirkz is Looking For:   Kirkz can't wait to see what life in the big city is like. Chihuahuas are energetic little busybodies who keep their pet parents amused with their antics. They aren't meant to be running partners but Chihuahuas are happy to accompany you on frequent walks around the neighborhood to check out the exciting scents and meet new people. This adorable little guy is sure to break hearts with his big ears and soulful golden eyes.   Dog parks with a designated small dog area are best for these little ones. .Doggie daycare would be another great way for him to play and make new canine friends. Chihuahuas are known for having a bold, 'big dog attitude'  start training early with Kirkz. You will both have loads of fun as learns how to show you what a good boy he can be. What My Foster Says About Me: Kirkz is such a sweet, silly little boy! I can’t sit down without jumping onto my lap, and when I come near him in the house he rolls on his back and demands tummy rubs. He gets along beautifully with Gracie, my Chi/MinPin mix, who’s literally twice his size. When I have dinner he will lie down with his head resting on my thigh, patiently waiting for me to share with him. In addition to the usual, he loves broccoli, carrots, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, and pasta.  He loves his crate, and will often rest there during the day; when I pass by it, he’ll follow me around to make sure he doesn’t miss any new adventures in the house. Kirkz is a bit of a puller on walks, but at 17 pounds, it’s no biggie. He greets every human he meets like a long-lost relative, but he can be quite picky when it comes to choosing his doggie friends. He loves car rides, and will usually settle in and curl up after a minute or two. He hasn't had an accident in my house in months. He’s a pup that you have to meet one-on-one to appreciate his many charms and attributes. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations. Story
Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.is puppers! is not predatory cat! LYNX NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Lynx       Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix  Best Guess for Age:   6 years as of July 2024       SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight:   9.2 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested.  We would be cautious placing Lynx in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home    See this sweetie enjoy some pets in the shelter in this video! - https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iIkbc62MRDE All about Lynx:“Oh my. What a love. What a sweetie.” That was her foster’s first reaction upon meeting her. Her foster says that Lynx is a gentle and calm little pup who loves snuggling up on soft bedding. She is very chill in the home, simply curling up next to her foster’s lap when on the sofa, at her feet while her foster is working - the perfect WFH companion. She doesn’t demand attention, but stays close and shows deep gratitude when she gets pets and scratches.  She sleeps quietly overnight in her crate and often goes in on her own during the day. She knows outside is for potty and finds her spots within a few minutes of going out on leash. She took a few days to get to know her foster's resident dogs and then started playing with - and initiating - sweet play with the one that is close to her size. She also loves the variety of plush dog toys in her foster's home and takes big ones - half her size! - back to her crate to snuggle.  Lynx loves her sniffy walks and is eager to explore. Her foster lives in the city and Lynx gravitates to grassy patches and triangle parks for sniffing.   Her body - the (healed) ragged tips of her ears, the stretched out nipples - shows she likely had it hard earlier in her life. But her spirit and the absolute love and trust she shows in her humans shows she likely lived in a wonderful home with kind humans after that. “What a love. What a sweetie.” That is still her basic essence.  Lynx wants nothing more than to be safe and loved for all her days - to be a loyal, loving companion. What do you say? Are you the soft landing this sweetie deserves? Currently Living At: DC area foster home Check out this video of Tory: https://youtu.be/v_sZh6rorqI. Tory is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is oh so eager to once again have her own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. Sure, she's not a young pup any longer but you know, small dogs can live quite a long time and Tory will have plenty of energy for quite some time to come! You may notice that Tory has a cherry eye in the photos. The good news is that will be fixed while by the time she arrives in the DC area. What she wants most of all, though, is to love and be loved, to know where she belongs, to know she's under her own roof every time the sun goes down. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and little tail wags and to always make you smile. What do you say? Is Tory the companion you have been seeking? What My Foster Says About Me: Tory is doing great! She’s incredibly sweet and fun to have around! I haven’t seen her around kids yet but she adores everyone she meets. She’s smart and clearly well behaved. I was impressed by how much she sped along on our walk. I left her in her crate for a few hours and she seemed to handle it well.
