Story
Olaf, the chocolate Chihuahua, is about 4.5 years old and looking for the perfect, quiet home with someone who is familiar with anxious and fearfully reactive dogs. He would do best in a home with no children, and not a lot of visitors. Cats are a no go for Olaf as are most other dogs. He would be ok with one small, submissive, low-key doggie friend as he likes to play occasionally, but he isn't very good at normal dog play. We lovingly think of Olaf's personality as a cat trapped in a dog's body. Olaf takes a daily anxiety medication to help him feel safe in his everyday environment. Olaf will need an understanding and patient person that will allow him space and decompression time when he gets overstimulated. Olaf is crate trained and for the most part potty trained. However, like any small dog he isn’t a fan of going outside in the rain or cold. He walks wonderfully on leash as long as no off leash dogs approach him, and he also loves to travel in the car. He does like affection on his own terms and will let you know when he no longer wants attention. Olaf's perfect home will need to be willing to give him time and show him patience as he is settling in to your lifestyle, they must also be willing to continue working on training to ensure he lives a happy and safe life. Most importantly Olaf will need a person that is NOT expecting a snuggly lap dog. While he will occasionally snuggle and sit on your lap, it will only happen when he chooses it. His perfect person would be looking for a tiny, quirky shadow that is content with his mere presence as companionship. Olaf is spay/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, heartworm tested and on prevention. Adoption fee for Olaf is $350. If you are interested in adopting Olaf, please fill out an adoption application http://www.furgetusnotrescue.org/application.html .

MEET RINGO:    Age: 7 Years Young  Weight: 10 lbs of Love  Breed: Chihuahua mix  Hello! I’m Ringo, a gentle, fun-loving boy who is looking for a forever family. I came from a hoarding situation where I lived among many animals. Despite my background, I am a social boy who enjoys attention. At just 10 lbs, I’m the perfect size for cuddling and boy do I love to snuggle up with my people! I am looking for a companion that will enjoy time chilling on the couch with me. While I’m friendly with both dogs and cats, I would likely do best in a home with more mature, dog-savvy kids. I’m doing pretty well with learning how to walk on a leash - who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Tethering is not a good fit for me either, as I prefer not to have those restrictions and like to be with my people. I have displayed a good understanding of house manners and am crate trained. I may be shy at first introduction, but I have a sweet spirit and a heart full of love just waiting for the right family to share it with. If you’re looking for a cuddly companion who will appreciate your love and kindness, then I could be the perfect match for you! Let’s meet and see if we can create some beautiful memories together!  RINGO is:Current on Rabies and DistemperDewormedHeartworm Tested: NegativeReceiving Heartworm and Flea PreventionMicrochippedNeuteredADOPTION FEE: $350 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. Story
***Adoption Pending*** What gorgeous coloring and the softest coat Hunter has! He is estimated to be about 8 years old and weighs 7 pounds. Hunter is a funny, happy, and curious dog with lots of love to give. He may be a senior, but he has lots of energy and an adventurous spirit. He was so good for his little photo shoot, we discovered he loves little hot dog pieces, but especially loves to be where you are. Hunter is very affectionate and loves getting lots of pets, cuddles and laying across your lap. He doesn’t want to be left out of anything, while having kitchen time at the rescue, he loved laying on the warm towels out of the dryer and watching one of our volunteers fold the laundry, it was very funny! If you are looking for a sweet, adorable pup with a waggy tail, who is full of love and affection, please come and meet Hunter. Since he is a little older and so tiny, he is looking for a quieter home with older children, where he can live out his golden years in comfort and happiness. Hunter will have to have eyedrops for dry eye for the rest of his life, but he is a trooper about getting them, just a little wiggly! Please consider adopting Hunter and giving this sweet dog the loving home he deserves. If you are interested in Hunter and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application!
