Story
Olaf, the chocolate Chihuahua, is about 4.5 years old and looking for the perfect, quiet home with someone who is familiar with anxious and fearfully reactive dogs. He would do best in a home with no children, and not a lot of visitors. Cats are a no go for Olaf as are most other dogs. He would be ok with one small, submissive, low-key doggie friend as he likes to play occasionally, but he isn't very good at normal dog play. We lovingly think of Olaf's personality as a cat trapped in a dog's body. Olaf takes a daily anxiety medication to help him feel safe in his everyday environment. Olaf will need an understanding and patient person that will allow him space and decompression time when he gets overstimulated. Olaf is crate trained and for the most part potty trained. However, like any small dog he isn’t a fan of going outside in the rain or cold. He walks wonderfully on leash as long as no off leash dogs approach him, and he also loves to travel in the car. He does like affection on his own terms and will let you know when he no longer wants attention. Olaf's perfect home will need to be willing to give him time and show him patience as he is settling in to your lifestyle, they must also be willing to continue working on training to ensure he lives a happy and safe life. Most importantly Olaf will need a person that is NOT expecting a snuggly lap dog. While he will occasionally snuggle and sit on your lap, it will only happen when he chooses it. His perfect person would be looking for a tiny, quirky shadow that is content with his mere presence as companionship. Olaf is spay/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, heartworm tested and on prevention. Adoption fee for Olaf is $350. If you are interested in adopting Olaf, please fill out an adoption application http://www.furgetusnotrescue.org/application.html .

Story
Bella is a 7-year-old, about 9 pound Chihuahua mix. We believe she came from a home where she was not well socialized. She was surrendered to a local shelter, for unknown reasons, and immediately shut down, curled herself up into a tiny ball and would not let anyone touch her. She was transferred into rescue immediately and had to be taken to the vet for sedation to have her vaccinations. Bella still has anxiety when meeting new people. She will most likely need multiple visits before feeling comfortable with a new person, so adopters must be willing to make trips to the Port Huron area to meet with her before adoption. She will need a very quiet home, no cats. She would be okay with another small dog that would give her space. She does initiate play with my 3.5 pound male chihuahua, but she loves playing with her toys and sitting in the window watching the outside world. If she sees a cat she does react with a lot of noise and jumps from chair to chair. She does enjoy going outside in a fenced yard to sniff and run around. She is crate trained, sleeps in her crate at night and mostly potty trained. She does sometimes pee when over excited or stressed. She is submissive to pets and rolls over for belly rubs. She will jump up in the chair with us for a short period of time and then curl up in a bed on her own. She is NOT the typical snuggle bug. Bella will need a patient person who is experienced with nervous dogs. She will need someone who will give her time to decompress and adapt to her new environment and will not force her to interact before she is ready. Bella (Annabelle) is spay/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, heartworm tested and on prevention. Adoption fee for Bella (Annabelle) is $350. If you are interested in adopting Bella (Annabelle), please fill out an adoption application http://www.furgetusnotrescue.org/application.html .

I was taken from the big city shelter in the nick of time. I am cuddly, extroverted and curious. i will chase cats, but am fine with other dogs. I like them small so we can play. Very young children may be a bit too intense for my lifestyle. I do promise to be your best companion and "by your side" friend.
