Age: 5 Years Weight: 25lbs Good with dogs? Unknown- meet and greet required Good with cats? Unknown Good with kids? No Energy Level: Moderate-High Adoption Fee: $320.00 Any other info: Meet Rizzo: A Loyal Heart Searching for His Safe Haven. Sometimes, love isn't enough to make the world feel safe. Rizzo—affectionately known as Rizz—has spent his life navigating that delicate balance between fierce loyalty and quiet fear. At just five years old, he has already known both the joy of a family and the heartbreak of being returned to the shelter. He loves deeply, but his anxious heart needs patience, understanding, and a home where he can finally breathe easy. Rizzo is a compact little guy with an endearing, robust frame and the silliest ears you've ever seen. His personality is a contradiction in the best way—loving yet guarded, affectionate yet cautious. With the people he trusts, he is a devoted companion, ready to shower them in warmth and love and wiggles his whole body in excitement. Plus, he loves but scratches and leaning into you for comfort. But with strangers, his fear takes hold, and he needs time, space, and reassurance to find his confidence again. He is protective, not aggressive—his heart simply demands safety before he can fully open up. A calm, child-free home is what Rizzo needs most. He is a dog who loves hard, who bonds deeply, and who, even now in the shelter, is surprising everyone with his resilience. He’s doing better than expected, but there’s one thing he can’t shake—the struggle to eat unless someone he loves is nearby. That alone speaks volumes about how much he craves companionship, stability, and the comfort of a home that finally understands him. While Rizzo’s love for his humans is unquestionable, we’re not sure how he would do with other animals at this time. He may thrive as an only pet, or he may open up in the right environment. What we do know is that he needs patience, a steady routine, and a family willing to help him feel secure. Rizz is 5 years old, neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on prevention here with us. He is also taking some daily medication to help his anxiety here in the shelter and may or may not need to stay on that in his home as well. Rizzo has so much potential. He isn’t broken—he’s simply searching for the right person to help piece together his confidence, one moment at a time. If you’ve ever wished for a companion who would love you with unwavering loyalty, Rizzo is waiting for you. He just needs someone willing to meet him where he is and show him that safety and love can go hand in hand. He’s ready to leave the shelter. He’s ready to learn. He’s ready to love. Are you ready to give him his second chance? If Rizzo’s story speaks to you, please reach out today—he’s waiting for his forever home. Apply through the link below and our adoptions team will get in touch with you. https://form.jotform.com/201977724595065 Once your application is processed and approved, our adoptions team will reach out to schedule an in person meet and greet with Rizzo. ------------------------------------------------ Our adoption fees include the pets spay or neuter, microchip, up to date vaccines, heartworm/tick disease testing and fecal check. All adoption fees can be found on our groups' Petfinder page. The first step to our adoption process is to please fill out and adoptions application, it can be found on our website www.serenityanimalhospital.net, under the "Adopt From Us" Tab. Please email the application to adoptions@serenityanimalhospital.net or drop it off in person during our business hours. Story
Olaf, the chocolate Chihuahua, is about 4.5 years old and looking for the perfect, quiet home with someone who is familiar with anxious and fearfully reactive dogs. He would do best in a home with no children, and not a lot of visitors. Cats are a no go for Olaf as are most other dogs. He would be ok with one small, submissive, low-key doggie friend as he likes to play occasionally, but he isn't very good at normal dog play. We lovingly think of Olaf's personality as a cat trapped in a dog's body. Olaf takes a daily anxiety medication to help him feel safe in his everyday environment. Olaf will need an understanding and patient person that will allow him space and decompression time when he gets overstimulated. Olaf is crate trained and for the most part potty trained. However, like any small dog he isn’t a fan of going outside in the rain or cold. He walks wonderfully on leash as long as no off leash dogs approach him, and he also loves to travel in the car. He does like affection on his own terms and will let you know when he no longer wants attention. Olaf's perfect home will need to be willing to give him time and show him patience as he is settling in to your lifestyle, they must also be willing to continue working on training to ensure he lives a happy and safe life. Most importantly Olaf will need a person that is NOT expecting a snuggly lap dog. While he will occasionally snuggle and sit on your lap, it will only happen when he chooses it. His perfect person would be looking for a tiny, quirky shadow that is content with his mere presence as companionship. Olaf is spay/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, heartworm tested and on prevention. Adoption fee for Olaf is $350. If you are interested in adopting Olaf, please fill out an adoption application http://www.furgetusnotrescue.org/application.html .

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Winston is a very sweet boy, who loves to play with toys and enjoys the company of other dogs. Winston came from a hoarding case, so he does need someone with patience. He is afraid of outdoors, but he is very good about using his potty pads in the house. He is also afraid of human touch until he knows he can trust you. Then he allows you to pet him, but still fears being picked up. He loves to sleep in bed with his human.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  ********************************************************************************** We show some of our adoptable dogs at PetSmart, Utica, each Saturday between the hours of 11:00am and 3:00pm.  Cats typically don't do well at events, so they only attend with a pre-approved meet and greet appointment. If you are interested in a particular pet, we suggest you email: mmarpaws@gmail.com to see if that pet will be there.   Applications are approved on the basis of the best and most appropriate home for the animal, not on a first come, first served basis. On site adoption available to pre-approved applicants only.   Adoption fees go towards vaccines, heartworm prevention/testing, flea/tick prevention, spay/neuter and other medical problems that may arise.   MMAR is an all volunteer, foster based, 501 (c) 3, non profit organization. Without your donation, wonderful pets like these have to be passed by because we cannot afford their care.   If you would like to donate please send donation to: MMAR Box 180155 Utica, MI 48318   Donate online at https://www.sanilacscoopers.org/   Please email us at mmarpaws@gmail.com for additional information or to set up special appointments March 29, 2025, 6:47 am

Story
Meet Kiwi!!!! Kiwi came into our care when her family was moving and couldn't take her with them. A wonderful foster family stepped up for her and the rest is history! Kiwi is 8 years young and is in search of her retirement home. She was recently spayed and microchipped and is recovering nicely. She is also up to date on vaccines. Kiwi would do best is a low traffic home as sudden movement and loud noises can startle her. In true chihuahua fashion, she takes a minute to warm up, but once she does she is your B.F.F for life! Kiwi is both potty trained and crate trained. Kiwi is dog friendly with slow proper introductions, she has not met any cats in our care yet, but we do not foresee any issues. So if you are in the market to add the cutest chihuahua to your family, APPLY TODAY! *8 years old *Spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped *Potty and Crate Trained *Requires a low traffic home *Enjoys walks *Loves to cuddle *Enjoys being outside sunbathing on a warm day Application: https://peaceloveandpawsrescue.com/adopt%2Ffoster-application

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!).
