Story
Meet Charlie! He's a spitfire Chihuahua ready for his golden years! He's been doing great with us so far, and is warming up quickly to people. He was likely mishandled by young children in the home, so teenagers and adults are a much better fit. Due to this, he's a little unsure of new folks handling him. He loves other dogs and cats and has really enjoys his 4-legged friends. He also LOVES rope toys, which is super funny for his little size! Charlie wants to do the right thing, but sometimes gets a little confused. If he's too unsure of something he may react out of fear- once he knows you, he's eager to please. For example, to get picked up or held he knows "up" and will line right up IF he's in the mood. If he doesn't want to be picked up, he will promptly go in the other direction. Charlie is SMART- but is still learning that new people are safe- he does have some puppy-like mouthy behaviors and is doing great redirecting that onto a toy- he loves to play tug! There's a lot of spunk left to discover, but he really enjoys relaxing and coexisting with folks. He's not afraid to take a nap on someone he just met! Charlie is a chihuahua through and through! He's just a senior looking to spend his golden years in comfort. He's food motivated and curious. Medical stuff: Charlie has patellar luxation in both rear legs, meaning the kneecap can move out of its normal position. Patellar luxation is a common disorder of small or toy breeds and is usually hereditary, although it can be caused by an injury. This dog has a grade 2 out of 4 patellar luxation in both the right and left rear legs, with grade 4 being a kneecap that is permanently out of position. Many dogs with patellar luxation will occasionally hold up the affected leg or limp when the patella luxates, but will recover quickly once the patella moves back into place. He has not had active symptoms since in the care of is foster in Mid-October. Charlie was noted to have a right-sided apical systolic heart murmur with the grade 3 out of 6, with grade 6 being the most severe. Medication has not been deemed necessary for him at this time. Charlie will need a dental cleaning with extractions in the future. Given he has a heart murmur, a cardiac work up will likely be recommended prior to a dental procedure to evaluate for anesthetic risks. *We only adopt and foster our animals within a 60 mile radius from New Brighton, MN* All of our adoptable animals can be seen by appointment. Story
Meet Chippy! He is a 20lb 6 year old Chihuahua mix. This sweetheart was dumped outside of a PetSmart in a kennel in North Carolina. From his foster: October update: Chippy is a very good boy- quiet and gentle! He's experienced some trauma in his early life but is learning to trust, come out of his shell, and live his best life. When the weather is nice he loves to relax in the sun, take a walk with his stroller, and meet new dogs in the neighborhood or dog park. Chippy is very food motivated and gets super excited at meal time and when he can earn treats. Chippy is great with other dogs, cats, and children. August Update: He is very calm, a little timid and we have not heard a single bark out of him. He loves to snuggle, has a good appetite and enjoys prancing around the yard finding treats we put out for him. He has a passing interested in cats but no chasing instinct. He doesn't seem to have experience with stairs so we are approaching that slowly. He likes balls and will fetch!! He had a couple accidents through the transition but is getting into the swing of things. We are currently working on leash walking. He likes to be active in the yard and is starting to let loose but wants to be a very good boy. Easy to train with treats. He seems to match the energy level with the rest of us, relaxing when we need to work from home and getting excited for walks or backyard time. *We only adopt and foster our animals within a 60 mile radius from New Brighton, MN* All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment. Meet Lady! She's apx 10 years old and traveled a long ways to MN. She came to Legends in Early October, and we're learning more about her each day. So far, she's been great with dogs, cats, and all humans that she's met. She is coming out of her shell each day as she decompresses and starts to show us her personality. She likes to follow her people around the house and is loving beds and couches! Lady is a gentle senior looking to spend her golden years in comfort. She's food motivated and curious. She's already started trying out sweaters as we anticipate MN winters to be quite the adjustment! Medical stuff: She recently had a dental, and is noted to have a very mild heart murmur. Medication is not required for it at this time. We've got her on a joint supplement for some probable arthritis, and she also has a sensitive trachea and will cough occasionally, but otherwise is a healthy older lady! *We only adopt and foster our animals within a 60 mile radius from New Brighton, MN* All of our adoptable animals can be seen by appointment. Story
Snapshot of Sarsaparilla: Size? Small but mi ghty! Activity Level? Easy to manage and full of snuggles (eventually) Noise Level? I bark when other dogs bark or to alert you that something is happening. Good with Dogs? Yes Good with Cats? Yes Good with Kids? Sort of. I live with kids currently but I will require no kids or VERY dog savvy kids and parents.  Good with Strangers? Ew, no. Potty Trained? Yes, when the weather cooperates Crate Trained? Yes, but I'm really good when left outside of my crate.  Shedding? Minimal Looking for a dog who will obey your every command? Keep scrolling. Still here? Good — you might just be worthy of Sarsaparilla. Sarsaparilla is a chihuahua with enough attitude to power a small city. She lives life her way, and any attempts to pick her up or tell her otherwise may result in a quick reminder (via teeth) that she’s not a fan of being manhandled. However, once you earn her trust (and her respect, which you will never demand, only be granted), she’ll graciously honor you with lap time... at her discretion. Moving her off your lap? Good luck. Cancel your plans. Sarsaparilla gets along just fine with dogs and cats — mostly because she has deemed them acceptable peasants in her kingdom. She’s living with young kids currently, but trust us when we say she’s dog savvy and so are they. In her ideal world, she’d be queen of an adult-only castle or maybe one with extremely dog-savvy older kids who understand the importance of personal space and consent. Housebreaking? She's got it mostly mastered — when the weather cooperates. If it's rainy or snowy, however, you might find a little "oops" inside. After all, Sarsaparilla is a firm believer that queens should not suffer soggy paws or chilly breezes. Leaving the house? Not her vibe. Sarsaparilla’s dream is to live her best life indoors forever, venturing only into a fenced yard when absolutely necessary before promptly returning to her throne (aka your couch). She kennels if asked nicely, but honestly, she does great free-roaming — mostly lounging luxuriously while giving the other crated dogs a smug side-eye. Important note: We’ll need to do a virtual meet-and-greet first. If you meet her in person right away, all you’ll see is her spicy, "don’t touch me" side — and while that is part of her charm, her true personality shines much brighter once she’s comfortable. If you're ready to serve (er, adopt) a tiny but mighty monarch who demands respect, gives love on her terms, and will keep you laughing daily with her larger-than-life personality, Sarsaparilla is ready to grace your home with her presence. Long live the queen. Sarsaparilla is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations appropriate for her age. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Marble is a gentle, affectionate toy-lover looking for a loving home where she can play and relax. She is a cautious girl who takes a little time to feel comfortable around new dogs and people. She may bark at large dogs or unfamiliar visitors at first, and she’ll sometimes bark through the fence at the neighbor’s dog or when a new dog comes into the home. She has been through a lot! Marble came from a home with many dogs and was very shy when she first arrived. Now that she's had some time to adjust, she seeks out attention and pets. She’s starting to truly enjoy exploring, playing, and relaxing in the quiet of the house. She is mostly potty-trained and generally very quiet unless other dogs start barking. Marble loves food and treats, which makes her easy to train. One of her funniest quirks is stealing toys from the other dogs just to get them to chase her — she’s fast and playful once her confidence shines through! Marble would do best in a calm home with a confident companion dog who can show her the ropes. She has lived peacefully with several dogs and has never had a cross word with any of them. While she may never be a lap dog, Marble will be a loyal, loving presence for someone patient enough to let her bloom at her own pace. Marble’s previous owner had to enter a nursing home, and the rescue took her in along with four of her canine friends from that home. With a little time, understanding, and stability, Marble will continue to grow into the wonderful, devoted dog she’s meant to be. Marble is  from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Norman, the confidence king with a strut so sassy it deserves its own theme music. He may get a little vocal here and there, but don’t worry—he snaps out of it the second you remind him he’s being dramatic. He’s potty trained, knows sit and stay, and does well with other dogs. Small kids and brand-new humans? Well… Norman would prefer they approach slowly, maybe with a résumé and a polite introduction. He warms up on Norman Time™, and honestly, we respect his boundaries. Once he decides you’re worthy, though? Good luck getting rid of him. Norman lives for attention, belly rubs, and being glued to his people like a fuzzy little shadow. Once Norman warms up to you, he loves toys and snuggle time on your lap. Here’s a sweet video of Norman playing.  He’s crate trained, sleeps through the night, and wakes up every morning ready to begin his daily routine of Being Handsome and Going Places. Norman loves exploring the outdoors and is always down for an adventure… right up until he’s ready for his cozy end-of-day flop. Whether he’s strutting with confidence or rolling over for dramatic belly rubs, he’s equal parts distinguished gentleman and lovable goof. If you need a loyal buddy with equal parts charm, sass, and wiggle—Norman is your guy. Norman is from a local impound.
