Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. &#226&#128&#139Tayo is a gentle and shy pup with a heart full of potential. While he’s still learning to feel safe and confident in the world, he’s made great progress with his foster mom and loves seeking her out for comfort and companionship. He’s more cautious around men and needs a little more time to warm up to them—he's okay at arm’s length with his foster dad and prefers to keep a bit more distance from kids. When guests come over,&#226&#128&#139T&#226&#128&#139ayo likes to retreat to his safe spot under the bed, but with the right family, he’ll continue to blossom. This special boy will thrive in a quiet, patient home where his people understand that love and trust take time. His ideal family will be willing to give him the space he needs to grow at his own pace. In return, they’ll get the sweetest, most loyal companion. &#226&#128&#139Tayo does need to go to an adoptive home with another dog present to help show him the ropes.  If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a dog who just needs a little extra time to shine, Tayo would love to meet you! Tayo is from Texas. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Otis, the delightful pug mix with a heart of gold! From the moment he walked into his foster home, he exuded confidence and charm, instantly making himself at home. Otis is a true lover, not a fighter; he adores people and warms up to everyone he meets. His playful spirit shines as he initiates play, steals toys from his canine friends, and zooms around the backyard with joy. Otis is gentle and affectionate, often climbing into laps for snuggles. He gets along wonderfully with other animals and showcases a playful spirit without an ounce of aggression. He is crate-trained, happily eating and sleeping in his cozy crate, and his fosters are in the process of helping him perfect his potty habits. With his retired foster parents at home all day, Otis enjoys frequent outdoor adventures, allowing him to explore and play to his heart's content. Having been picked up in the Texas Rio Grande area, Otis has quickly adjusted to his new environment and is thriving. Although he is heartworm positive and will undergo treatment, it doesn’t dampen his cheerful demeanor. He loves food, toys, and, most importantly, the company of his people. If someone is looking for a sweet and loving companion to brighten their days, Otis is ready to become a cherished member of their family! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **Cricket’s Bio (Written by Cricket, the Pup)** Hey there, I’m Cricket! I’m a young pup with a lot of spunk and an even bigger heart. Things are going really well here, and I’m settling in nicely. I’m starting to show more of my *real* personality—let me tell you, it’s a fun one! I sleep pretty well in my kennel (although I’ll admit, the first few nights I let out some little whines). Now, I only bark for a minute or two at bedtime before I settle down. I’m working on that! I absolutely *love* to play fetch, especially with squeaky toys. They’re my favorite! I can spend hours chasing after them, and let’s just say, I’m really good at it. If I’m not fetching, I might be chewing. I really like chewing on stuff, but don't worry—my human keeps me busy with peanut butter in a Kong and lots of chewy toys. I did get a little too excited about a chew bone once, and ate it in just a few minutes. Oops! I’m a bit shy when meeting new people or other pets, but give me some time and I warm up quickly. I *really* want to play with the cats here, but they’re not as interested in me... rude, right? But that’s okay, I’ll keep trying.  Car rides? YES, please! I love them. I either nap or watch the world go by, but I’d always rather be with my human. I follow them everywhere, especially if they're going to the kitchen! I’m right there hoping for a tasty snack. Actually, *any* food will do. I’m very skilled at giving you my best puppy eyes when you sit down to eat—sometimes I even try to get a taste from your mouth after you're done. I can be sneaky like that! Speaking of being sneaky... I once got into my human’s chapstick. Yep, I chewed the container and licked the balm (it tasted pretty good, honestly). My human was a little worried, but everything turned out fine. I’m fine, but they did get a little upset when I had an accident on the bed. I’ll try not to do that again. I’m doing better about using the potty pads, though! I don’t love the cold weather, but I’m getting used to it. I’ve got to learn to walk on a leash too—so far, not so great, but we’re working on it! I might be a little stubborn about it, but I’m a quick learner if you’re patient. One thing about me: I don’t like being left alone. I cry for a little bit when my human leaves the house, but I settle down once I realize they’re coming back. I think I’d do best in a home where someone is around a lot, maybe with older kids or adults who have a little more mobility since I’m a bit of a tripping hazard. I have so much love to give, and I’m learning more every day. With a little training and lots of patience, I’ll be the perfect companion. I need someone who can help me build my confidence, teach me proper boundaries (like not lunging at faces—oops), and guide me gently. I *really* love cuddles, and I’ll be your loyal best friend forever if you’ll let me.  I’m ready for my forever home, are you ready for me?  Love,   Cricket Cricket is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Gretchen is a lively, affectionate pup who’s always ready for fun and love in Minneosta! Found as a stray in Texas, she’s since blossomed into a happy-go-lucky girl who adores kids, adults, and other dogs. She’s got a soft spot for squeaky toys, soft chews, and, most of all, her people. Just be prepared—she’s a certified “nose and mouth licker,” so watch out for surprise smooches! Gretchen’s morning routine starts with a potty break and then plenty of playtime with her foster sibling. She loves her meals and can be a bit of a treat thief, but she’s not food-aggressive. With access to a doggy door, she’s reliable about taking care of business outside and is even patient when kenneled for longer stretches. At night, she’s a cozy bed companion who likes to burrow under the comforter, though she may need a few minutes to settle in first. While Gretchen is super friendly, her initial instinct is to bark at new people. It’s all curiosity—she just needs a moment to sniff things out before showing her sweet side. She’s playful, active, and thrives in a home with other dogs to romp around with. Her happy energy makes her a perfect fit for an active family who appreciates her love of fun and her big personality. Gretchen is ready for a fresh start with a family who’ll welcome her into their family and give her all the love (and toys) she deserves. Gretchen is from Texas.  One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application.
