Story
Meet Chippy! He is a 20lb 6 year old Chihuahua mix. This sweetheart was dumped outside of a PetSmart in a kennel in North Carolina. From his foster: October update: Chippy is a very good boy- quiet and gentle! He's experienced some trauma in his early life but is learning to trust, come out of his shell, and live his best life. When the weather is nice he loves to relax in the sun, take a walk with his stroller, and meet new dogs in the neighborhood or dog park. Chippy is very food motivated and gets super excited at meal time and when he can earn treats. Chippy is great with other dogs, cats, and children. August Update: He is very calm, a little timid and we have not heard a single bark out of him. He loves to snuggle, has a good appetite and enjoys prancing around the yard finding treats we put out for him. He has a passing interested in cats but no chasing instinct. He doesn't seem to have experience with stairs so we are approaching that slowly. He likes balls and will fetch!! He had a couple accidents through the transition but is getting into the swing of things. We are currently working on leash walking. He likes to be active in the yard and is starting to let loose but wants to be a very good boy. Easy to train with treats. He seems to match the energy level with the rest of us, relaxing when we need to work from home and getting excited for walks or backyard time. *We only adopt and foster our animals within a 60 mile radius from New Brighton, MN* All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment. Apply to adopt here: https://www.legendssenioranimalrescue.org/our-forms-2 Apply to foster here: https://www.legendssenioranimalrescue.org/foster-application All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment. You can contact us through our website at http://legendsrescue.org/index.php/contact/ or visit our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LegendsRescue/ if you have further questions or would like to schedule a meet and greet. FOSTER CARE: Our rescues are fostered in individual homes or at our facility. We work hard to ensure that our rescues have a supportive family while at foster homes to help them move forward and get ready for their forever home. We work on training, crate-training and socialization before an animal is adopted out. Foster homes are extremely important to the success of the cat at their forever home, and it is extremely rewarding to be able to watch the cats growth as you help them on their journey to their happy ending. YOU CAN HELP: If you’re not able to foster or adopt right now, please consider sponsoring a Legend. Your donation will help with our care and pay for medical costs. Meet Lady! She's apx 10 years old and traveled a long ways to MN. She came to Legends in Early October, and we're learning more about her each day. So far, she's been great with dogs, cats, and all humans that she's met. She is coming out of her shell each day as she decompresses and starts to show us her personality. She likes to follow her people around the house and is loving beds and couches! Lady is a gentle senior looking to spend her golden years in comfort. She's food motivated and curious. She's already started trying out sweaters as we anticipate MN winters to be quite the adjustment! Medical stuff: She recently had a dental, and is noted to have a very mild heart murmur. Medication is not required for it at this time. We've got her on a joint supplement for some probable arthritis, and she also has a sensitive trachea and will cough occasionally, but otherwise is a healthy older lady! *We only adopt and foster our animals within a 60 mile radius from New Brighton, MN* All of our adoptable animals can be seen by appointment. Story
Meet Zoe, a Chihuahua born approx 3/7/2020. Zoe is a sweet girl who has had a lot of transitions in her life. She can be a little slow to warm up, but once she does, she is very cuddly. She has seemed to attach strongly to the mom of the house and does get anxious when she leaves, but eventually settles down. She’s been alone up to 6 hours, has been free floating around the house, and has not had any accidents or destroyed anything during that time. Zoe is house-trained, and scratches at the door when she needs to be let out. She is not kennel trained. She has been great with our 3.5 year old daughter. Initially she was respectful and a little afraid of our cat, but she has had a few instances of lashing out toward the cat, She has been great with our small dog, and has met other big dogs on leash and has reacted positively. She loves walks, and while she pulls sometimes, she is easily redirected. Zoe is a medium energy level. She loves running off-leash on our acreage, but can also curl up on the couch and be content. In the car Zoe wants to ride on your lap, but also does fine in the kennel during rides. Zoe is treat motivated, playful, and sweet and will make a great family dog for a very lucky family.    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Hi, I’m Maggie. Im a 2 year old chihuahua mix! I came to mn from Mexico, where i was found living in a hole inside a rock mountain. When I got to mn my foster mom realized I was limping quite a bit. It then was determined by our vets that I needed a double back knee surgery as I had luxating patella in both my back knees. Don’t worry, my foster momma did all the hard work and I feel so much better now and am like a brand new dog!  Now for the fun part! I am such a joy to have around. At first I am not trusting of people but once I learn you wanna be my friend we can be best friends. I am goofy and will play with other dogs big or small but it may take me a few days to warm up to them. When I am in cuddle mode, I don’t like to share my space with other animals and may snap at them if they disturb my sleep. I love cuddles, I am the most cuddly girl ever especially with this thing called winter. I would rather curl up and cuddle with you under a blanket all day long. I am kennel trained and do really enjoy hanging in my kennel. I am for the most part potty trained, occasionally I have accidents here and there but 98% of the time I go outside. I sleep in bed curled up next to my foster momma all night long. As for cats they are fine, if they are more active cats I may try to play with them or chase them but I leave the more laid back cats alone. I will bark at new people coming into the house but will calm down and as long as they leave me alone they can stay. If they are too intrusive or in my face too much at our initial meeting I may growl. I never snap or bite though. I just need some extra time to learn new people are okay!  Anyways do you think you could be my forever home??  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $500 plus taxWinthrop is an adorable and very sweet Chiweenie (that’s our best guess, anyway!). He has one droopy ear and one erect ear, which gives him a wonderfully goofy expression that tends to make everyone smile. When Winthrop first arrived at his foster home, he was shy and a little nervous about his new surroundings. With a little time and patience, he has quickly settled in and become part of the pack. He enjoys being near his people and does well with everyone he meets, although he may need a little time to gather the courage to say hello. Winthrop gets along great with our two larger dogs and often looks to them for reassurance in new situations. Once a day or so, he gets a burst of energy and will zoom around the backyard or do a few laps around the couch or dinner table. The rest of the time, he is happiest curled up next to his people for a good snuggle. At night, Winthrop is a perfect sleeper. He quietly settles into a dog bed next to our bed or happily snuggles up in bed with one of the kids. House training is going well. He is still learning how to tell us when he needs to go outside, but he does very well when kept on a consistent schedule and has had no accidents while following one. Winthrop walks nicely on a leash and does not pull, though he does enjoy stopping frequently to investigate all the interesting smells along the way. He is generally a quiet dog, but he will politely alert you if someone walks by the house or if a new visitor arrives. Winthrop is a gentle, affectionate little dog who will make a wonderful companion for a patient and loving family. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $500 plus taxSancho is a sweetheart who just needs a wee confidence boost. He is a new arrival and we are still getting to know him. We will continue to update his bio as we learn more about this charming little chi-weenie! It's been a few days and Sancho has had ZERO accidents in the house and his kennel! He doesn't give a signal that he needs to go outside, yet. He is Not a marker. He is a little king though, and as such, he needs his entourage to accompany him when going potty. Otherwise, he won't step outside. But hey, at least he's not a flight risk!   Sancho is doing great with the resident small dog and is unbothered by the neighbors barking/fence charging dogs, both big and little. He walks well on a leash, and does great in the car. He does not appear to know any commands, tricks, or his name. We enjoy training and will work on this. Sancho sleeps in a kennel in our bedroom. He whines for a minute and then sleeps quietly though the night. He does not want to go into the kennel, and I would Not consider him kennel trained. We will start kennel training him.   Sancho can jump a 2ft. baby gate - I've seen him do it. ~Somehow~ he is getting over a 3ft. baby gate. Despite getting into areas we were trying to restrict, he has been a very good boy and has not taken, gotten into, eaten, or destroyed ANYTHING!   Sancho does a appear to have some separation anxiety from his designated safe person. This manifests as: pacing, whining, scaling baby gates, sitting waiting in front of the door you exited from, watching out the window for you, & not eating when you're gone. We are going to work on fixing this using Susan Garrett's FRIDA Method. (Free video on YouTube!)   Sancho is currently a little nervous in general. Some examples: if you move too fast he may startle. He is unsure about pets, but but likes to cuddle. He will bark a little, and sometimes growl, when new people knock and enter the house - it's fear, not aggression. I expect this will improve as we build up his confidence. He is an easy dog, just needs a little training.
