CLEO | 8 years old | 10-pounds*Alright, STOP. Collaborate and listen…She cute but she is expensive.Cleo will need prescription food and medication for the remainder of her life. Still interested? Read on!—--Straight from her foster’s mouth to your ears.. erhmm.. eyes.. learn more about Cleo directly from the source! They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend.. And you better have a lot of them. To sell. To pay for her vet care.Haha! Just kidding! *looks around* Kind of..Cleo has a condition called protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) caused by irritable bowel disease. She loses proteins from her bloodstream into her GI tract faster than her body can replenish them and her medical management helps regulate this condition.Cleo’s daily life is unaffected by this and she does your everyday dog things. The only addition is giving her medication (pills) with her morning and evening meals which she takes without problem.Still interested? Then you’re ready to hear our secret..—--Cleo is a GEM. A truly one-of-a-kind companion. So without further ado, here’s what you need to know about Cleo!Extremely smart. Eats her own poop. In a glass-half-full kind of world, you could consider her a self-poop picker-upper. (But really, you are going to have to go out in those subzero temps and pick up her poop before she does.)She is well potty trained but her medications/condition cause some accidents if she is unable to be let out after a certain amount of time. She understands cues quickly and even knows sit, shake, high five, and can catch her food mid-air!Farts can clear a room. They just get stronger. Rootin’ Tootin’ Cleo should be in the Guinness Book of Records or something.Teeters on being the fun police. Still fun.Cleo coexists with dogs big and small but can sometimes be a playtime hall monitor. That said, if she finds the right dog with the right playstyle, she has a good time playing chase and wrestling!Loves tug o’ war. Hates fetch. If you throw her toy, she’s going to look at you like what are you even doing. On a scale of one to barky, she’s about a five. While Cleo doesn’t bark all day long, she is going to warn you about car doors slamming, people talking, the general goings on of the world. And her bark be loud so shared walls may not be the best fit for her. She stops with some guidance pretty quickly.. usually.. sometimes..Loves food. Hates sharing. Cleo’s favorite times of the day are, hands down, breakfast and dinner. And she’s got that only child syndrome (I can say that, I’m an only child) where everything is hers. Her food. Her toys. Your food. All hers. And she will tell anyone who needs to know.Cleo doesn’t currently live with cats but has in the past and takes it in stride. As long as she’s the center of attention, that’s all she really needs.Supposedly a Chihuahua/Pug mix. Definitely just as needy. Pug parents, am I right? Cleo will climb on your lap, push her way to your hands, and really doesn’t care if she’s stepping on another dog to get to the top. We mean that figuratively. Well.. except for those times when she’s literally walking over a dog to get to you.Likes to give kisses. Licks everything. Literally everything.. the couch, the floor, the carpet, the coffee table, your clothes, and your face.Cleo is great with kids of all ages but it’s probably best that she live in a home with teens or no kids on account of how much she loves food. Because she has PLE, Cleo needs to be on a restricted diet and can’t be catching scraps or snagging food from those little hands. Because she would. She totally would. This girl’s personality is a great balance of play and chill, and she walks so well on a leash.. when it’s actually warm out.. A lap dog through and through, Cleo wants to be snuggled in with you, often under a blanket (Chihuahua parents, you get it). She's content to snooze on the couch or a dog bed when you're gone and she can fit into any social situation.Cleo is one of the best dogs out there and whoever has the privilege of adopting her is going to know love (and toots) beyond measure!—--*Opening Line Credit: Vanilla Ice - “Ice Ice Baby”Cleo came to Pet Haven Rescue with a severe case of PLE. Her levels are back to normal with the help of food and medication management.More on protein-losing enteropathy (PLE): https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/proteinlosing-enteropathy-ple-in-dogs—--If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling: https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Size? Small Activity Level? Medium Noise Level? Medium Good with Dogs? Yes Good with Cats? Yes Good with Kids? Yes Good with Strangers? I take some time to adjust to new people. Potty Trained? Yes! Crate Trained? Yes Shedding? Minimal Hi, my name is Jalapeno. I am a 3 year old Pug/Chihuahua mix who loves to snuggle! I get the "zoomies" at times and love to chase my ball around the house, but most of my time is spent cuddling whoever is around. I have done well with other dogs, and I am usually good with cats but I like to chase them if they run away from me. My first foster had children and I seemed to do well with them, but I can be nervous around strangers when first introduced. I have a big bark but once you get on my level, I realize you are a nice human :) I can get startled easily at first, but after a few days I have relaxed and rarely bark when someone comes in. I do bark a bit at strangers outside (especially if you are tall), or whine if I am in my kennel too long. I do not like my neck being touched very much, so putting on a leash can make me a bit fearful. Once it is on I have no issues! My ideal home would be somewhere with lots of people to snuggle and play with! I am a loving dog who will help with all of your chores and find a nice spot to curl up with you on the couch. I can't wait to meet you! Jalapeno is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. Adoption Fee: $550 + applicable tax MEET ME/ADOPT ME: If you'd like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting https://www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/ or clicking "adopt me! Snapshot of Sarsaparilla: Size? Small but mighty! Activity Level? Easy to manage and full of snuggles (eventually) Noise Level? I bark when other dogs bark or to alert you that something is happening. Good with Dogs? Yes Good with Cats? Yes Good with Kids? Sort of. I live with kids currently but I will require no kids or VERY dog savvy kids and parents.  Good with Strangers? Ew, no. Potty Trained? Yes, when the weather cooperates Crate Trained? Yes, but I'm really good when left outside of my crate.  Shedding? Minimal Looking for a dog who will obey your every command? Keep scrolling. Still here? Good — you might just be worthy of Sarsaparilla. Sarsaparilla is a chihuahua with enough attitude to power a small city. She lives life her way, and any attempts to pick her up or tell her otherwise may result in a quick reminder (via teeth) that she’s not a fan of being manhandled. However, once you earn her trust (and her respect, which you will never demand, only be granted), she’ll graciously honor you with lap time... at her discretion. Moving her off your lap? Good luck. Cancel your plans. Sarsaparilla gets along just fine with dogs and cats — mostly because she has deemed them acceptable peasants in her kingdom. She’s living with young kids currently, but trust us when we say she’s dog savvy and so are they. In her ideal world, she’d be queen of an adult-only castle or maybe one with extremely dog-savvy older kids who understand the importance of personal space and consent. Housebreaking? She's got it mostly mastered — when the weather cooperates. If it's rainy or snowy, however, you might find a little "oops" inside. After all, Sarsaparilla is a firm believer that queens should not suffer soggy paws or chilly breezes. Leaving the house? Not her vibe. Sarsaparilla’s dream is to live her best life indoors forever, venturing only into a fenced yard when absolutely necessary before promptly returning to her throne (aka your couch). She kennels if asked nicely, but honestly, she does great free-roaming — mostly lounging luxuriously while giving the other crated dogs a smug side-eye. Important note: We’ll need to do a virtual meet-and-greet first. If you meet her in person right away, all you’ll see is her spicy, "don’t touch me" side — and while that is part of her charm, her true personality shines much brighter once she’s comfortable. If you're ready to serve (er, adopt) a tiny but mighty monarch who demands respect, gives love on her terms, and will keep you laughing daily with her larger-than-life personality, Sarsaparilla is ready to grace your home with her presence. Long live the queen. Sarsaparilla is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations appropriate for her age. Story
Poppy will love you like no other. The line should perhaps read,  Poppy will love you but maybe no one else. One must truly understand the makeup of some Chi mixes, they sometimes pick their person and could care less about anyone else. Poppy will let other people know if she wants a pet from you or not quickly by showing her teeth and a bit of a growl. She has chosen my ten year old granddaughter as her person. I can pet and hold her most times except when she is laying down in her chair on the couch or her bed. She gets along with other dogs perfectly, cats too. She is not food or treat aggressive. She sleeps with my granddaughter but if she is off on a overnighter then I'm good enough to sleep with. She is house trained and house broken, hardly ever barks, walks great on a leash and is  a number one sun worshipper.  Poppy will let you sleep  In late before her morning potty break.  Her person/ family needs to understand that it would be best to remove her from the room when having company, not letting people especially small children around her in case she is in a diva mood. To the person she loves, she would perhaps lay down her life for you.. guaranteed she will sit, sleep and cuddle beside you forever. She prefers mid to soft foods after having her dental work done. She loves me when I make her her favorite meal of chicken breast and rice served in her green and white bowl. While Poppy comes with some baggage to the person/ people who understand she would make a good family member who is just asking for love and understanding. She was saved from the streets of Mexico, so no one knows her back story but you could be her happily ever after.   We’ve got some exciting news about this pup’s age! Thanks to DNA testing from Embark, we’ve got a fresh take on how old they really are. A big shoutout to Embark for generously donating these tests for us to explore! You might spot a difference between Embark's findings and our original guess—after all, no test or person is 100% accurate. It’s all part of the adventure! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, dental, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Who’s looking for a sweetheart of a pup? A tail-wagging, morning snuggling, happy pup? Chubbington (I call him Mr. Chubs) is a Chihuahua mix with an estimated birthdate of March 2020. As his name implies, he is a tad overweight, so he is on a diet right now (and he's lost weight!). He loves natural treats like bananas and apples. He’s very smart and knows sit. We’re working on wait, stay, and down. Yes, he’s a little older, but no less fun or playful. He has a good balance of being active on walks and chill indoors; unless of course you whip him up during playtime! Mr. Chubs loves to sit on your lap, but he’s not needy about it. He will go lie in his bed or on different chairs, then come back to you for some snuggle time. Plus he doesn’t seem to be a “one person” type of pup. He’s happy in whatever lap he’s in at the time.  Mr. Chubs is fully house trained. He doesn’t necessarily tell you when he has to go, but going out on a schedule works beautifully. He’s never had an accident or marked in the house and is able to go all night without a problem. He loves to go for walks but does pull on the leash because it’s a big world out there and there are tons of things to sniff and mark and chase. Again, he’s very smart and training him to heel should go quickly. He’s been really good meeting people on walks and has met a number of dogs well. Again, he gets so excited he jumps and spins a lot. He seems to do very well with larger dogs, so maybe he had a big dog in his earlier life. He is not too crazy about the kennel. Ok, he hates going in. He resists going in and will bark for a bit when you first leave, but then he settles down and is quiet.  I’m slowly introducing him to being left outside the kennel, then watching on camera to see what he does. So far so good, he hasn’t destroyed anything or gotten too stressed. Another thing he’s not too crazy about is having his nails trimmed. He may need some medication in order to accomplish that. For a five-year-old dog, he can be exuberant, especially at first. He will play bite and jump up, which could scare smaller children. Once that initial burst is out, though, he’s a good little pup just looking for some scratches. Again, training should work very well for him as he’s so smart. He is a stuffed-toy destroyer, but the harder chews and kongs keep him occupied. He’s so funny because when he first gets the chew toys he tries to hide them all over the house. Mr. Chubs also loves car rides and wants to ride shotgun but is fine tethered in back seat. If you’re looking for a little fun bundle of love, Chubbington is your guy.   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus tax Meet Sammy – a smart, silly girl whose favorite place in the world is right next to her person on the couch. She’ll follow you from room to room, happy just to be near you. Sammy is an elite-level snuggler—she wants to be close, but she’s respectful if you need space. She’s easygoing and low-maintenance, always up for a game if you are, but perfectly content entertaining herself too. Sammy enjoys both short and long walks (shorter when it’s chilly!), and she walks nicely on a leash. She has a charming collection of oversized stuffed animals that she proudly shows off to visitors—it's seriously adorable. Crate-trained and calm, Sammy often chooses to hang out in her crate just to relax. She can stay crated while you're at work, though she doesn’t need to be. While she can be reactive to other dogs, Sammy thrives as the only pup in the home. She does sometimes bark at passersby or unexpected household sounds, so a quieter home (not an apartment) would suit her best. That said, over the past week, she’s barely made a peep indoors—just a couple of barks when watching her person head out the door (and she quiets down quickly). Sammy’s also been doing great meeting kids! She’s recently met several children aged 6 to 10, and all interactions have gone smoothly—even when one eager child got a little too close to her face. Sammy handled it like a pro—calm and unbothered. While she’s generally reactive to other dogs, she’s had a few relaxed, positive encounters on walks recently. It’s promising, and with time and support, she may become more comfortable around them. For now, though, she’s happiest as your one-and-only.   Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION   APPLICATION by clicking on the  button below. Thank You!      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //
