Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Marble. I’m a shy, soft-hearted girl who’s still discovering just how safe and fun the world can be. I may not show my full personality right away, but once I feel comfortable, my sweet and playful side starts to shine through. I came from a home with many dogs, and when I first arrived here I was very timid. I’ve been through a lot, so I’m naturally cautious with new people and new dogs. Sudden movements or loud noises can startle me, and I may bark at unfamiliar visitors or large dogs at first. Sometimes I’ll even bark through the fence at a neighboring dog or when a new dog comes into the home—but once I realize everything is okay, I settle quickly. With time and patience, I’ve made wonderful progress. I now seek out attention and pets on my own, and I’m starting to really enjoy exploring, playing, and relaxing in the quiet comfort of the house. I love toys (maybe a little too much!) and one of my funniest habits is stealing toys from the other dogs just to get them to chase me. I’m fast, playful, and surprisingly silly once my confidence kicks in. I get along well with dogs of all sizes, older children, and I politely ignore cats. I’ve lived peacefully with multiple dogs and have never had a cross word with any of them. A calm home with a confident companion dog would be ideal for me—someone who can show me the ropes and help me feel secure. I’m mostly potty-trained and do great using pee pads. I have excellent house manners, am very quiet overall, and rarely bark unless other dogs start it first. I’m not crate trained, but I sleep happily on the bed and can be trusted when left alone—I’m not destructive at all. I don’t love the cold, so my leash-walking skills are still a bit of a mystery. I’m independent and not clingy. I’ll come to you when I want affection, and when I do, it’s truly special. I may never be a full-time lap dog, but I am a loyal, gentle presence who bonds deeply with those who give me time and understanding. My previous owner had to enter a nursing home, and the rescue took me in along with four of my canine friends. With patience, stability, and love, I’ll continue to grow into the wonderful companion I’m meant to be. If you’re looking for a quiet, affectionate toy-lover who will bloom at her own pace, I just might be your Marble. Marble is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Hello, my name is Flossie! I’m a tiny 4-lb gal with a very calm and loving personality. I live with two other resident dogs which are small breeds just like myself and we all have the same mission each day; to get the most attention from our humans. While I do enjoy having the company of my fur siblings, they’re not a must. Love and affection from humans is what fills my cup. I will lay next to you all day if you let me. I sleep through the night in my own playpen. My foster mom plays soft music which helps keep me calm throughout the night so that I can get my beauty sleep. I am potty trained, but I do love the option of having potty pads available because let’s face it, sometimes it’s just too cold for a tiny girl like me to be expected to go outside. ***Important information you should consider is that I have limited vision and I am diabetic which is something that will require care for the rest of my life*** Despite this, I have so much love and affection to give, I hope you’re ready for it. XO, Flossie This animal has diabetes and will need twice-daily insulin injections for life. While this requires a consistent routine, many diabetic pets thrive with proper care and go on to live happy, loving lives. We are happy to walk potential adopters through what this care looks like. Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and rec ommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Flossie is from a local impound.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Blue  Blue is a female breeder-release Chihuahua with a soft, quiet soul. She’s still unsure about people and new situations, but she allows cuddles and will sit calmly when love is gently given to her. Blue isn’t demanding or pushy—she’s more of a “forced love turns into acceptance” kind of girl, and she’s surprisingly sweet about it. She’s a peaceful presence who would do best in a calm, patient home with other dogs, where expectations are low and kindness is high. With time and consistency, Blue has the potential to continue opening up and learning that people can be safe and comforting. If you have a soft spot for the shy ones and the patience to let love grow slowly, Blue may be your perfect match.  Blue is from a breeder release. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Zelle is a sweet, playful little puppy who is full of love, curiosity, and puppy charm. At about 7 weeks old, Zelle is everything you’d expect from a young puppy — goofy, affectionate, and endlessly entertaining. She loves to play with her toys, tumble around with her siblings, and then curl up for a good nap wrapped in a cozy blanket. Watching Zelle play is pure joy; she’s especially funny when she’s romping around with her brother and sisters, showing off her playful little personality. Zelle is friendly with adult men, children over 10, and both big and small dogs. Because she’s still so young, she’s very adaptable and would do well either as an only dog or with a canine companion. What she really needs is love, playtime, soft blankets, toys, and a family that enjoys all the fun (and learning moments) that come with a puppy. Like all puppies, Zelle will need patience, consistency, and positive training. She’s at the perfect age to learn and be taught exactly how her future family wants her to grow up. She does bark a little when playing with her siblings, which is completely normal puppy behavior. Zelle was found in the woods with her brother and sisters, covered in ticks and fleas and suffering from significant skin issues due to her rough start in life. With care and treatment, she’s doing much better and is showing just how sweet and resilient she truly is. Zelle is looking for a committed, loving home that understands puppies need time, guidance, and lots of affection. In return, she’ll give you laughter, cuddles, and all the joy that comes with raising a puppy from the start. Zelle is ready to begin her next chapter — all she needs now is someone to love her, teach her, and let her be a happy little puppy!   Zelle is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 2/7/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* This sweet boy has only been with us a short time, and he’s already showing how special he is—with so much more personality still to come. As he’s gotten more comfortable, he’s starting to show that he’s very much a “choose his person” kind of dog, forming a strong bond and happily settling in for long naps right next to you. He does show signs of separation anxiety when left alone, but leaving the TV on and allowing him to roam (rather than being crated) has helped him feel calmer and more secure. He can be nervous around new people and will retreat to his safe space at first, but in just a few days he’s made great progress, coming out on his own to say hello and ask for gentle pets. A warm heating pad is one of his favorite comforts during chilly Minnesota days. He’s still learning potty routines and has done well using a designated pee-pad area—great progress for such a short time. While he appears to have had limited socialization, he’s improving every day and will continue to blossom with patience, consistency, and a loving home.
