Story
Fanny is a laid-back, easygoing little lady with a calm and gentle spirit. She doesn’t meet a stranger and has a wonderfully even-tempered personality. With her low energy level and love of lap time, she’s the perfect companion for someone looking for a relaxed, affectionate friend. Fanny does well with adult men, adult women, and small dogs. She likely would be good with most people, though little children may startle her. She can be playful at times but would also do perfectly fine as an only dog. She’s independent without being distant and enjoys simply being near her person. She is leash trained and mostly house trained (with access to a doggy door). Fanny is generally quiet, but she definitely knows when it’s mealtime — and she’ll give you a little bark reminder to keep you on schedule! Fanny was found as a stray just before a recent freeze. Someone had posted asking for help, and thankfully she was rescued in time. She was very underweight when found, and after a vet visit it was discovered she needed to begin heart medication. Since starting her medication, she has done wonderfully — gaining weight, feeling stronger, and showing more pep in her step every day. She truly is an easy pup who just wants a safe, loving home where she can relax and be cared for. Fanny has been through a lot, and now she’s ready for a stable forever family who will continue giving her the love and medical care she needs. Fanny would make a wonderful, low-key companion for someone who appreciates a calm, loyal little shadow by their side! Fanny is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 03/07/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.

Story
Hi, I’m Pippa, your future tiny shadow and full-time best friend. At 8 years old, this Chihuahua and Dachshund mix has perfected the art of companionship. Pippa is potty trained, low energy, and happiest when she’s curled up beside you, soaking in every bit of love and attention. She is the kind of dog who doesn’t need constant attention; she just wants to be near her person, quietly keeping you company. Pippa can be a little unsure when meeting new people, but give her a little time and she warms up into the sweetest, most affectionate girl. Once you’re in her circle, you’re there for life. She is loyal to her core and will love you unconditionally, making her a wonderful candidate for an emotional support companion. She adores belly rubs, scratches, and kisses. The moment you start, she will roll onto her back, stretch out completely, and fully commit to the experience. If you dare to stop, she will gently nudge you with her nose as if to say, “not done yet.” When she is especially happy, she even flashes a little toothy smile that is guaranteed to make you laugh. Pippa enjoys toys, rides well in the car, and is both leash and crate trained. She may whimper a bit when confined, but she rarely barks. She has a gentle nature with a slightly protective streak, and she truly thrives when she can bond closely with her person. In her perfect home, Pippa would be your one and only pup, soaking up all the love and attention she so deeply deserves. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate, and devoted companion who will always be by your side, Pippa is ready to meet you. Pippa is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 3/7/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Story
Ihop is a truly special boy with a calm, steady presence and a heart full of loyalty. Most of the time, he’s content to relax in his home, quietly keeping you company or stretching out beside you for a nap. He loves to snuggle in bed and will happily lie right next to you and he’s polite enough to let you sleep in! He is a tripod. Ihop does wonderfully with children of all ages. He is calm, patient often laying right beside them. He also does well with big dogs, small dogs, and even cats. He can thrive as an only dog or with a playmate. He is leash trained, potty trained, and enjoys his daily walks. In fact, he’ll head to the front door and give a little whine to remind you it’s time! He enjoys fetch, toys, lounging in the sun or shade, and even gets the occasional zoomies. One of his cutest quirks? He likes looking at himself in the mirror. Ihop can be unsure around adult men at first and may bark initially. With patience, time, and treats, he does warm up. He does well with boys and female family members. He can also be reactive to other barking dogs and should be properly introduced and managed. He is protective of his home and can be an escape artist if given the opportunity, so a secure yard and leash supervision are very important. Structure and boundaries will help him succeed. Ihop would do best with a patient, structured home that understands he needs a little time to adjust — especially around men. With consistency and love, he has the potential to be an incredibly loyal, affectionate, and devoted companion! Ihop came from a shelter before going into foster care. He previously suffered an injury to his back left leg and pelvis that required amputation. He has fully recovered and does not let being a tripod slow him down in any way. He runs, plays, snuggles, and enjoys life just like any other dog. Ihop is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 3/7/26 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and 12:00pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Story
Hi, I’m Marble. I’m a shy, soft-hearted girl who’s still discovering just how safe and fun the world can be. I may not show my full personality right away, but once I feel comfortable, my sweet and playful side starts to shine through. I came from a home with many dogs, and when I first arrived here I was very timid. I’ve been through a lot, so I’m naturally cautious with new people and new dogs. Sudden movements or loud noises can startle me, and I may bark at unfamiliar visitors or large dogs at first. Sometimes I’ll even bark through the fence at a neighboring dog or when a new dog comes into the home—but once I realize everything is okay, I settle quickly. With time and patience, I’ve made wonderful progress. I now seek out attention and pets on my own, and I’m starting to really enjoy exploring, playing, and relaxing in the quiet comfort of the house. I love toys (maybe a little too much!) and one of my funniest habits is stealing toys from the other dogs just to get them to chase me. I’m fast, playful, and surprisingly silly once my confidence kicks in. I get along well with dogs of all sizes, older children, and I politely ignore cats. I’ve lived peacefully with multiple dogs and have never had a cross word with any of them. A calm home with a confident companion dog would be ideal for me—someone who can show me the ropes and help me feel secure. I’m mostly potty-trained and do great using pee pads. I have excellent house manners, am very quiet overall, and rarely bark unless other dogs start it first. I’m not crate trained, but I sleep happily on the bed and can be trusted when left alone—I’m not destructive at all. I don’t love the cold, so my leash-walking skills are still a bit of a mystery. I’m independent and not clingy. I’ll come to you when I want affection, and when I do, it’s truly special. I may never be a full-time lap dog, but I am a loyal, gentle presence who bonds deeply with those who give me time and understanding. My previous owner had to enter a nursing home, and the rescue took me in along with four of my canine friends. With patience, stability, and love, I’ll continue to grow into the wonderful companion I’m meant to be. If you’re looking for a quiet, affectionate toy-lover who will bloom at her own pace, I just might be your Marble. Marble is from Texas.

Story
Carlo Gizmo is a lovingly cuddly companion with big feelings about certain particulars in his world. He LOVES napping next to you on the couch and is an expert blanket-fort builder who will happily keep you company. At the same time, he has clear boundaries that must be respected — especially around sleeping spaces and fashion. Gizzy does best with his own cozy sleeping space and prefers to be his natural, fashion-free self. When his boundaries aren’t honored, he can turn into quite the little spicy bee, so he’s looking for a confident, consistent leader who can provide structure while enjoying a close, devoted bond. Carlo came to rescue from a local impound and is ready to start his next chapter with someone who understands that loyalty like his is a gift worth protecting.

Story
Nicholas is a sweet, happy dog with a gorgeous brindle coat and a heart that is learning to trust again. He was found as a stray in Texas alongside two other small dogs, and it’s likely he’s spent a long time on the streets. Despite his past, Nicholas has a sweet demeanor and shows his love in his own quiet, heartfelt way. He does best with slow, patient introductions to new people and a home that lets him build trust at his own pace. Once he warms up, Nicholas leans into affection, showing just how loving and loyal he can be. Nicholas would thrive in a calm, understanding home that can offer him time, patience, and plenty of gentle love. He would also prefer to have another confident dog in the home so that he can model his behavior off of theirs. Nicholas is from Texas.
