Story
My name should have been Happy because I am the happiest boy. But the name Lucky, also, fits because I am Lucky now to have been rescued. I am about a five year old or older Chihuahua. I was abandoned in a place with about 7 other Chihuahuas. You can guess what the place looked and smelled after we were left there for a long time. Some of the other Chi’s were eating through the walls to get out. We were rescued and taken to the shelter. I think my siblings and I were so glad to be out of the place where we were left. The shelter said we all had great dispositions. My tail has not stopped wagging since I came to my foster home. I do have some tremors but the humans are not sure why. All of us left behind were very malnourished which could attribute to my issues. My hip bones are showing and I am really skinny. But rest assure I am being fed now and will fatten up just fine. I do bump into things on occasion but I don’t let the stop me. I run, I play and I ask for attention. I have a funny little gait as well. Again this could come from being so happy or being so malnourished. Again it does not stop me from doing all the doggy things I need to do. So far I get along with other dogs. I am starting to play with another dog about my size. I am just learning to play with toys. I pick the toys up and am so happy but then not sure what to do. I am watching the others dogs so I am sure I will catch on. I get along with all sizes of dogs as long as they are nice to me. I am not perfectly housebroken but will wear a belly band and it is usually dry when I get outside to use the potty. Not being housebroken may have to do with not being neutered and from being inside for a long time. I will be neutered in November so I am given a chance to put on weight and get stronger. I am starting to go into a crate when I need to. I do not always want to be crated but it is safe. I love to eat and have treats. I love to be outside with my human and doggy friends. I am learning to walk on a leash. It took me two days to learn my foster home’s routine so I am smart. I can be a bit fearful in a new situation but once I am comfortable, I am wide open. I will just cower when I feel unsafe. As long as folks give me time I will come around. I do love being held. I go nonstop and so does that tail of mine. I am happy to be in a safe and clean spot. If you have a spot in your house I can be safe in let us know. I would love a forever family that I can be loved and cared for. Please complete an application at safeanimalhaven.org if interested in giving Lucky a forever home!July 14, 2024, 12:16 am

Story
When Lola came into the rescue, she was a hefty 12 lb chihuahua. Her former owner became ill and could no longer care for her. She is spayed, current on vaccines, and preventions.  Lola is looking for a foster/adopter who is committed to helping her lose weight and getting her socialized.  Ideally, this would involve hand feeding so that she can start to build a bond with her foster/adopter. Since coming into rescue, she has lost some weight and is becoming more active.  We have learned that Lola will play with your feet and that she is a huge fan of pizza crust.  She loves her doggy bed, too! She is pee pad trained and goes to the door to poop - but won’t go outside - and prefers to use the peepad.  This girl is slow to warm up but does want to be loved. She likes attention and even talks back when talked to. She is head shy, so if you go towards her with your hand, she lets you know that she does not like that and will use her teeth. It will take a special foster/adopter who is willing to work through this issue with her.  An ideal home for her would be an adult only home.  She is dog friendly.July 25, 2024, 6:14 pm

Story
Bast is a 2-year-old possible Italian Greyhound mix, but his medical records indicate Chihuahua. He looks like a real-life version of the dog from The Simpsons. He weighs about 12 pounds and is crate trained and house trained. Bast came to us from a hoarding situation, where dozens of little dogs like him were in a very small home. He is very nervous in new situations and will take above average time to warm up to new people, therefore we he would love a home with another dog showing him that humans are okay and show him the ropes and a fenced in yard. Once Bast gets to know and trust you he loves being held and cuddled but will also quietly entertain himself in his crate for hours. He loves his crate – it’s his safe space and will go in on his own when he’s tired or just wants a break from the other dogs. He is active and athletic and even though he’s little, would make a great running partner. He would also be fine in a more sedate home if he had a safe yard to let the zoomies out. Due to his shy personality and needing above average time to get comfortable with new people, Bast does require a fenced in yard and is would not be a candidate for apartment type living Bast is great with the four larger dogs in his foster home and while we haven’t seen him around cats, we expect he will be fine with them. He is not comfortable with young children and will try to chase them away, so he needs a home with no kids under 14. If you want a little dog with a big personality, Bast may be the one for you. If you are interested in adopting Bast, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet’s age.    **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. ** July 26, 2024, 10:50 am

Story
Rodney is a very curious, mischievous little guy who gets into everything, just like a little puppy. They say this guy is around 8 years of age and weighs 12 pounds, but he acts like a kid and he shows it by running a lot out of pure joy and fun and he adores being outdoors and laying in the sun. He is not good on a leash yet and is not housebroken but we are working on both. Cats are not welcome in his world at this point because he finds them strange and annoying.  But he redeems himself with a family by loving to cuddle and snuggle.  Can you believe that underbite he has?  I mean it is the first thing you sort of notice about him.  It might make him look tough but Rodney is a 'softie' through and through.  He is just an adorable, sweet pup and he deserves a much better home than the hoarding conditions that he came from.  Maybe you want to help him see the blessings of a new home and secure lifestyle.  He will make you laugh, he will make you smile and he will make you feel loved!  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested in giving him a forever home.  Please tell us the city and state that you live in when you write to us. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.July 26, 2024, 2:09 pm

Story
My name is Prince Charlie and I am truly a dog with some royal habits in my everyday life.  I was found on a rural back road in Tennessee and I just think that somehow my owners were misguided in dropping me off in the middle of nowhere.  They didn’t explain but I think it was financial problems.  But apparently the vet says that I am an adorable 8-year-old cream-coloredPug/Chihuahua boy with a heart of gold! I really don’t weigh much at all and the scales at the vet said 13 pounds.  What I can say is that I am a strong and “bounce back “ boy that is ready to make your life happier and more loving with me by y our side. But listen up.  I may be 8 years old, but I have a whole lot of energy to spare and so “senior” movements are not what I am all about at all.  I can have the zoomies like the best of the youngsters out there.  Hey…maybe they guessed my age wrong.  Anyway, calling me a senior is maybe just in age but I don’t act like one and I don’t intend to.  I am a boy that you can take out on walks, hikes, or social events outside and I will help you make more friends than you could ever imagine.  I love all the dogs and cats at my foster home.  I just love anything and everyone!  The one thing that I am still learning after a short time in my foster home, is the house-training skills.  But I can say that I am eager to please and so I am a great student trying to pass my house training exam.  I am ready to be your fun machine, your love machine and your friendship matchmaker.  Consider adopting me and you won’t regret it.  Just email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com   They will quickly send you an application for adoption.  You don’t want to miss out on me.  PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJuly 26, 2024, 2:09 pm

Story
Silver Sam is 5 years old and weighs 12 pounds.  Part of a big hoarding case, he was taken to the shelter and there he sat for a few months.  Critter Cavalry Rescue could not stand the thought that he was in that out of the way shelter where no one comes to adopt a dog.   We pulled  7 dogs from that hoarding case and some had been there for 6 months.  Sam is a hoot as they say.   He is funny and active and must be watched if in a chain link fenced yard.  He might find an escape route and take off just for the fun of it.  He doesn’t go far but he sure does love the chase.  He is good with other dogs and he is full of antics with the cats.  He is almost housebroken and he is just the most loving lap dog ever.  Such a great smile and attitude despite some terrible conditions in his previous life.  He is with someone that loves the Chihuahua breed and understands all the little quirks.  He really has not bad habits except the fun of occasionally making a run for it just to see you panic.  Just a little Houdini in his spirit to have some fun.  If you are interested in this guy please email us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com Tell us where you live   and what city and state.

Story
My name is Lil Sirachi and I am what you call   “cuter than a bug” and I honestly have to agree.   Everyone raves when they see me and my siblings.  There were eight of us born to a really special momma named Gina.  We are called Chiweenie puppies, like our momma.  I was born April Fool’s Day and by July 12th, I will be ready  for that perfect home that wants a little boy like me to make their life so much more fun and perfect!  My foster mom honestly does mostly adult small dog fostering, but she is really on an adventure right now with me and some of my siblings.  She says I am so very affectionate and sweet and that napping is my favorite thing to do.  But when I am awake I am zooming all over her apartment and doing some of the funniest puppy things that make her laugh.  I am good at hitting the potty pads  most of the time and I know how to go outside too.  I am a “talker” according to my foster mom, Miss Lisa.  She says I have the cutest voice and I use it with her and when I am playing with my siblings.  I probably won’t be much bigger than 15-20 pounds when fully grown up.  If you want to invite me to be a part of your family and home, then write to Critter Cavalry right away.  Email them at ccrnewengland@gmail.com   I am ready to go in just 2 more weeks.  I can’t wait to meet my new human family members!
